    - Emailing Word Document Using Macro Hi All, I hope someone can help me, We have a word document for requesting a courier service, the user currently has to open the document from our Intranet, enters the data then sends it as an attachment to our stores dept. I am trying to set-up a macro that will do this automatically, when I try to record a new macro it gets as far as opening the new message window with the attachment but it does not populate the To: field and does not send the e-mail.     - ByRef question Hello all, Here's my scenario. I have an Access app that needs to grab data from an Excel worksheet. What I've done is create a function in Access that simply calls excel.run(myproc(arg1, arg2)). The excel proc needs to return a bunch of numbers so I pass ByRef. I can't think of a cleaner way of doing this without updating the db in excel itself. My question: In Access, when I declare my excel object as an object, the byref works, but if I declare it as Excel.Application then it doesn't work. Why? In both tests, I use set xlsApp = new excel.application, the only difference is in the actualy dim statement. Am I missing something here, cause I'd really like to bind early, it's just cleaner.     - Check for Bookmark then run userform I want to write some code that will check to see if a bookmark exists and if it does, run a userform. Once the user has filled in the userform and clicked OK, I want the code to find the bookmark and delete it. If the bookmark doesn't exist, then I don't want the code to run...     - Extracting Endnotes Number Hi all, I am required to get the number of an endnote and check if it is present in the main document. To elaborate further, assuming I have something like: 3 For a historical description of the... 3 being the superscripted end note number that word automatically assigns. I will need to extract the text '3' out of the end note. When I copy and paste any endnote, I get '[1]' instead of '3'. Also, when I just do a msgbox(selection.text), I get a funny character instead of the endnote number. Is there anyway, I can retreive the endnote number? After I reetrieve it, I will have to check if it is present in the main document which is fairly easy. It's the text extracting part that's eating my brain (however limited!) away.     - Certificate of Security Hi As my security settings are medium, I am always being asked if I want to activate my macros. So I installed SelfCert.exe and run it (apparently successfully according to a window) But it didn't make any difference and my name didn't not appear in the security window as a reliable source. I've also tried running it with my main macro document open and with .dot open but nothing gives. What is the procedure for running SelfCert.exe please?     - How to Lock links (programatically) without incurring an update I have found several past posts on locking links in VBA. (Cribbed code is included at the footer of the message.) I would like to discover the programmatic equivalent of the manual method of locking links: Edit--->Links (Opens dialogue); Select all links, check 'Locked' box; click OK. Problems with my current VBA method: a) the original linked source file needs to be present for my code to even work. (Not the case with locking links manually.) Running code sans source file returns: "Run-time error '6083' Objects in this document contain links to files that cannot be found. The linked information will not be updated," leading to the next issue... b) With the code, Word first updates the links before setting them to Locked. Not desirable, timewise (manual locks instantaneously, vba takes 1.5 min+) & the updates are likely irrelevant to the current doc. c) The other thing that is so darn snazzy about the manual method is that it doesn't care if it is a field, shape, inline shape; it just locks the bugger. In code, I need separate processes to deal with each type of link (Probably unavoidable). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Taylor P.S.     - Conditional Compilation question Hi, Is there a way to identify the version of Word using conditional compilation statements? I have a macro which requires a slight modification for Word 2003 using a command newly available in 2003 but the macro needs to be compatible with earlier versions. I don't want to run two different versions of this macro so I would prefer to use an #If statement which contains my version checking and modifications in order to be able to compile the macro on different versions of Word. I know there is the VBA6 constant which helps determine whether I am using Word 97 or other but there doesn't seem to be a way to determine whether I am using 2000 or 2003 (for example) while still allowing me to compile.     - Monitor Clipbaord Hi Folks, I have a dialog box that prompts a user for some information. Unfortunately I can'nt get my dialog box to query the database so users are having to manually re-enter the data. Now I have the option to copy a record set from the database to the clipboard. I need the dialog box to monitor the clipboard for data of a given format, ie: Name=SMITH/John James DOB=01/08/80 And if data of the specified format it detected, upon focus I guess, to populate the appropriate text boxes.     - Returning NumberFormat from a bullet Hi, I have developed a utility in VB which analyses a Word template and generates the VBA code required to recreate any outline numbering list templates which exist (useful when copying outline numbered styles from one document to another). This works a charm EXCEPT when the outline "numbers" are bullets. In most cases the NumberFormat property of the ListLevel object returns "?". What I need is to be able to retrieve the ascii value for the bullet character. Using asc(myListLevel.NumberFormat) returns 63 with is the ascii value of a question mark - not very useful :) Is there a way that I can return the correct bullet via code? I can determine the ascii values manually and slot that into the code that my utility generates but it would be nice for my program to be able to do this - after all that is what it is for!     - Update Reference Field I have a userform that fills in formfields in a document. In several places, the same information is inserted, so I cross-referenced those formfields with ref field. The problem is that I can't figure out how to update those ref fields without also clearing the formfields. When I update all the fields in the document, the form fields clear and the ref fields update, I suppose, but since the form fields are now blank so are the ref fields.     - Application.Filesearch yields incorrect results?? I use Application.Filesearch in an Excel macro to search through a series of Word docs for a keyword. The search is initiated and the keyword(s) entered via Userform. Hyperlinks to docs matching the search criteria are written to a blank area on the worksheet. The search works, except it just gave me some wrong answers. I entered ABC-01. When I clicked the link and brought up the first doc, I did a Find for ABC-01 - it was not found, but ABC-02 was! Does the hyphen throw this off? Might other punctuations or non-alpha characters? Any thoughts?     - Word Error using VB Editor to Open document When I type in the following commands in the Intermediate window, I get a Word runtime error when I run the third line. activedocument.SaveAs "C:\test.doc" activedocument.Close activedocument.Open "C:\test.doc" The reason why I did this test is because an application that I wrote is not working correctly on a client's machine.     - A macro to fix empty boxes and wrong symbols in imported WP files At the end of this message is a link to a macro that tries to fix the problem of Word files that have been imported from WordPerfect, and display either the wrong symbols or letters instead of symbols such as quotation marks and dashes. The intelligent parts of the macro are the work of Jay Freedman, Helmut Weber, Greg Maxey, and Jezebel, in answers to my pleas for help here; the candy-coating and blinking lights are by me. This macro is designed to fix the problem in which a typical symptom is this: In a file originally created in WP, the creator of the file included: "quotation marks--and a dash" but when the file is opened in a copy of Word (usually on another system), Word displays this: Aquotation marksCand a dash@ I think I finally have this macro in a condition that's suitable for testing, but ONLY on copies documents that you can afford to lose. The macro saves your file in Word for Windows 2.0 format and then reopens it. Word 2003 does not ship with the Word for Windows 2.0 converter, but you can take a copy of WNWRD232.CNV from a system with Word 2002 and move it to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TEXTCONV or wherever your text converters happen to be, and then restart Word (maybe restart Windows) to be able to use the WinWord 2.0 converter in Word 2003. As written, the macro converts only a limited number of characters, because each one has to be added to the macro by hand. Also, it turns out that symbols like the musical flat, sharp, and natural will convert in Word 2003 under Windows XP, but not under Word 2002 under Windows 98 SE. I *think* this is caused by differences in fonts in different versions, and I would like to add a test for the Windows version. Is there a very simple way of returning the current Windows version? The ones that I've seen out there seem extremely complicated. Here's the code. If your browser renames it with a .TXT extension, remove that; go into Word, click Alt-F11, go to the Properties inspector at the upper left, click on Normal, use Insert/Module to insert the module. I need to be able to sweep a directory and its subfolders for MSWord documents, run a macro which removes embeded document template information and saves the document again. This has become an issue because UNC paths have been used in the Document Template path on many documents, and the server which they point to has been taken offline. This causes Word to take 5-10 minutes to open the document. Quick fix is to match an existing IP address in WINS with the UNC path name, this speeds the opening of the documents.     - Optional merge fields Hi, I have a letter template (in Word 2000) that can optionally be used to create a merge master letter (simply by inserting AutoText containing merge fields). The mail merge operation is being handled entrirely by VBA by the way. This works fine, except I would now like to have the same template to have the capability of handling two data sources (both CSV files). Many of the fields will be the same, but one CSV file will have more fields than the other. Is there any way that I can use truely optional merge fields, as conditional merge fields can only function if the merge fields are actually there.     - Problems with InsertFile and AttachTemplate My group has just upgraded from Word 2000 to Word 2002 (SP3). When I tr to run certain macros word hangs on certain methods, specificaly Section.InsertFile and ActiveDocument.AttachTemplate. By "hang" I mea that when Word calls one of these methods Word freezes. The macro these run in are stored in a template run as an add-in, and are fairl complicated. What's strange is that if I record a macro with the sam method, a macro that contains only a few lines, everthing works. Thi problem is occurring in macros that have been used without problems fo five or more years (some of them originated in Word 97). Has anyone seen anything like this before? I've spent a couple of hour doing searches on the the MS Knowledge Base and in this forum but hav not turned up any answers. I've been going nuts trying to figure this one out -- after inserting doc number and page number fields in footers, then saving the document or updating all fields in footers, then all content in Primary (not different first page) footers EXCEPT section 1 primary footers take on the Page Number style and refuse to accept the Footer style no matter how hard I try to apply the Footer style. This only happens when I use .PageNumbers.Add (not .Fields.Add wdPageNumber). I'd like to use .PageNumbers.Add (which inserts the page number in a text box instead of as an inline field) for ease of formatting. We're trying to standardise our footers to include only a document number (as a field linked to the DMS (document management system)) and a centered page number. The document number should be formatted in "Footer" style and the page number in "Page Number" style. The code below goes through every footer in every section, deletes everything from each footer , applies the Footer style , inserts the DMS field flush left and then the page number on a new line above the DMS field. After running the macro, all the footers appear as they should: the DMS field in Footer style and the page numbers in Page Number style (page number fields in centered text boxes in the footer). However, after saving the document, the primary footer for every section EXCEPT section 1 has Page Number style applied and the style cannot be changed. This happens regardless of where the page number text box appears in the footer -- on the same line as the DMS field or not. As I mentioned above, if I use ActiveDocument.Fields.Add wdFieldPage in a different paragraph from the DMS field, each paragraph retains its proper style (Page Number and Footer respetively).     - Range delete also removes leading space?!? I set a range to encompass one line, which is an entire paragraph by itself. This line begins with a space. After doing some things, I collapse the range to the start and MoveStart to the beginning of the document using: rngFind.Collapse Direction:=wdCollapseStart rngFind.MoveStart Unit:=wdStory, Count:=-1 For debugging, I put in Range.Select - the selected text is exactly what I want: everything from the first character of the doc to the paragraph mark just before the original range. The now-set range does not include the leading space of the original range. When I delete this second range I have set, the leading space of the original range is also removed. Because of the way we intend to use the information, the price needs to be purely numeric - no pound signs and no commas or full stops. Having gotten comfortable using the VBScript RegExp Object via COM in Excel, I wanted to use it also in Word just as a handy little precise and efficient search and replace utility. I have just started and have been doing it like this: I have Word and Excel open next to each other. When I see a word that I want to check I double click it to highligh it > right click > Copy > Click the Excel screen > Clik the next cel down > right click > Paste > back to Word screen. Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Accessibility Options
On the Display tab, check that 'Use High Contrast' is unchecked. If not,
uncheck it and see if that fixes the problem.
