 - Word Notification on Update Fields In both Word 2003 and 2007 if I have a REF field in a footnote, select the footnote range and press F9 Word throws up a notification that it can not undo this action and asked if I want to continue. After clicking yes the field updates but I can undo it with Ctrl z without a problem.  - autoexec in add-in? I have the following code in an add-in. I've been having problems with the key binding so I added an autoexec routine which I thought would clear out the binding value when the add-in was loaded, but that does not appear to be the case. I tested this by trying to get a msgbox to pop-up when the add-in was loaded when Word was loaded and nothing happened. Is there any way to get this to work?  - Auto-populate field in Word 2007 I have a form built in Word 2007. I have one field that contains a drop-down list. I would like to auto-populate 3 other fields based on the user's choice from the drop-down list. (i.e. I have a table with 4 columns, the drop-down contains the records from the 1st colum and the fields I want to auto-populate is from the associated columns 2-4) I understand that I will need to run a macro, I am just not sure how to go about this.  - Getting the styles from a template Here's the application. I'm building a Find and Replace dialog box, but one that just works on styles. For the Find list, it's easy to get the styles in use from the active document. The Replace list is supposed to come from the template attached to the document. So the idea is you can find any style in the document, but you can only replace them with "valid" styles as defined in the template. To get the styles from the attached template ... That's the problem. I have to avoid creating a new document from the target template, as that will trigger the ThisDocument > New processing. Here's what I finally settled on. Then I load the styles from that document into the list and close the dummy document. BUT For some reason when Visible:=False, the ThisDocument > New processing for the target document runs anyway! Try it. You'll see. Anybody know how to avoid this? Anybody know a slicker way of getting a list of the style names from the active document's attached template?  - Making 2 Tables into 1 Table More stuff on tables... Will MS _ever_ get it right? I've got 2 tables with a blank line in between them. (They were created independly of each other, not by simply splitting one table into two.) Normally, if you remove the blank line between 2 tables the tables become 1 automatically. However, sometimes (like this time) the tables stay as 2 tables, even though there's nothing between them - not even a continuous section break. I really don't want to have to go through all the work of recreating a single table as the 2 tables are both quite complex - lots of varying column widths within groups of rows and styles and shading and borders, etc. Does anyone know of a way - either manually or through code - to force these two tables to concatenate? -- Cheers!  - Error in programmatic launch of 2nd winword.exe instance (Word 200 I am creating software using c# which silently opens word document, saves it to some location and closes it. It uses Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass, so new winword.exe process (hidden to user) is launched and after operation completes, process is closed. This works fine with Word 2003. With Word 2007 it works as well, but there is one problem. Instantiating Word ApplicationClass fails when 2 conditions are met: another winword.exe instance is running (user has already some document opened) and there is some dot or dotx template in Word startup folder. In that case, Word shows message, that this template is locked for editing by first instance of Word and therefore cannot be loaded when launching sencond winword.exe instance. I remind, Word 2003 has no problem with this situation, problems occurs only in 2007. I will really appreciate any try to help me. But please, don't tell me, that only solution is using Marshal.GetActiveObject("Word.Application") and reusing already running winword.exe process in that situation. I already tried that, it works, but there are many consequent problems: for example it doesn't work when some modal dialog is just shown in Word, there are also problems with hidden winword.exe process which is used in Outlook 2003 for html email editing and other. Simply, I have good reasons to want to keep this functionality isolated in separate winword.exe process. So is there any way of achieving similar behavior of Word 2007 like Word 2003.  - Cross Reference to the text of the bookmark does not work properly I created a userform using the instructions on your website: "How to create a userform". It stated the following: "Create two bookmarks in your template named â??Text1â?? and â??Text2â??. To create each bookmark, select a single space so that when you turn on the option to see the bookmarks under Tools>Options>View, the bookmarks appear as [] rather than |. When you create bookmarks with a space selected like this, the text will be inserted inside the bookmark, rather than after it. You can then use a cross reference to the text of the bookmark if you want the same information to appear in another location." Note the last sentence regarding cross reference. Everything seems to work, however, when I create a cross reference to any of the bookmarks, it does not seem to work. It displays the name of the Bookmark. For example, if my bookmark is named "Company_Long_Name" and then I create the cross reference, it displays: {REF Company_Long_Name} and not the actual name of the company.  - Application.FileSearch.Filename anomaly setting beginning of filename Hi: The problem is that I want to find files like "'INV*.DOC", but I'm also picking up "xxINV*.DOC" files as well. DOS doesn't have this problem, but Application.FileSearch.Filename seems to have it. If I specifiy a wildcard for the file extension, it works OK, but not if I specify the extension. e.g. "INV*.*" doesn't pick up the "xxINV*.DOC" files. Indexing is turned off. Using Word 2003. I have seen that there are problems with this function, but I can't believe at Office11 this problem hasn't been sorted out.  - Office 2007: frustrating Digital ID prompt I'm just starting to use Word 2007, and I've created a couple of macros in my normal.dot. Now whenever I try to run them, I get a prompt: "Get a Digital ID" - which asks me to either buy a Digital ID or create one of my own. I don't want to do either, I just want to use my macros. Can someone help me get rid of this dialog? I have created a couple of trusted loctaions, and set up the security setting to "disable macros except when run from a trusted location" - but I still get this dialog even when the file is in a trusted location. For example if the IP is in the maintext story and I run this code the header text will be selected but the view will shift to Draft..  - How force a document open as Read Only Hi, I have Word 2003 and we are using a document management system (DM5) and I am trying to figure out if there is a way using DDE commands to force Word to open a document as Read Only. At first I was going to try and use command line switches to do this but I now realize that there is no such switch.  - SendKeys use for Hotkey? I run an application (WinAmp) that allows me to set up hotkeys. I want to write a macro that will send such a key stroke so that it will be sent from Word, interpreted as a hotkey usage and thus intercepted by the hotkey application. (Context: I'm doing transcription of audio files and will use toolbar buttons and voice commands to do things like Play, Pause, etc so that my hands won't have to control audio playback; I can keep typing and simply say "back" to "rewind" as my fingers catch up.) All the overhead works (toolbars, voice commands, etc) but using the SendKeys function doesn't get the job done because it sends the simulated keyboard use directly to Word. It never gets processed as a potential hotkey. The only workaround I've found is finding the hotkey's application, switching it to the foreground and sending the keystroke that way. Although this works for the hotkey, it fails overall because I can't keep typing ("catching up") once Word loses focus. But... when you have front matter numbered like i,ii, etc or when you have appendices that use numbers starting again at "1" then in the first case the conditional header does not update and in the later you get, I thing, the highest classification mark on the two page 1's.  - Mail Merge data Hi, This is my first post on this forum so please excuse me if I am in the wrong group. I need to create a data base that I can print envelopes from. The data was originally typed into the label areas of a multiple label form. There are about 1100 records that I need to get into a list that can be managed. sorted by Zip, printed on envelopes, etc. I have been able to get some of the records to print, but because there are varying numbers of fields, the merge is not successful. I have copied and pasted the records into Excel and the name, street address, and city-state-zip get placed in separate cells in columns. I would like to get the data from Word into Excel and setup so that I can work with it. The list is for a friend, a 70 year old widow, who mails support letters for her missionary son who is living in Europe.  - Nest If Statements in REF Field I am trying to set up multiple conditions for filling in a REF Field but am having trouble getting them all to work. I have two bookmarks: ReferringPhysician and AttentionLine. Depending on which bookmarks have information in them, I want to reference that particular information in the REF fields for the bookmarks. There are three choices: 1. If AttentionLine has information in the bookmark, I want to use that variable in the REF field. 2. If AttentionLine is blank and ReferringPhysician is not blank, I want to use the ReferringPhysician variable in the REF field. 3. If both AttentionLine and ReferringPhysician are blank, I want the REF field to be blank so that it does not generate an Error! message.  - Using Cross-Reference to Replicate Bookmark Text Hi all -- I'm a self-taught VBA newbie learning as I go, so please bear with me. I am currently using a UserForm to fill in Bookmarks in Word 2007. That part is working great. However, the inputted text in "Text1" also needs to reappear in several other locations in the resulting Word document. It is my understanding that if I insert a cross-reference, select Reference Type: Bookmark and Insert Reference To: Bookmark Text, then select the Text1 bookmark under For Which Bookmark:, the previously inputted text should reappear in the cross-referenced location in the document. Do I also need to include specific code in my With ActiveDocument area to accomplish this?  - OrganizerCopy fails, half remedy found but cause unknown Hello. I'd appreciate your help with the following. I am using COM interoperability libraries (JACOB) in Java to create Word instances and manipulate Word documents programmatically. I am using Microsoft Word 2003 Pro (11.6359.6360) SP1, Greek edition. Basically there is a template A somewhere on my drive, and a number of different B templates somewhere else. I create lots of documents from the B templates, and then copy parts of A template to them with OrganizerCopy. In particular, I copy a certain macro module and a toolbar. We do this copying for every new document - currently it's not the right time to judge why. So, ... after random periods of time (sometimes it's a month, and sometimes a few days) and while everything seems to have been working alright, OrganizerCopy suddenly fails, particularly when copying the toolbar (it runs okay for the macro module), and keeps failing each time it is invoked (for the toolbar), until I delete the Data key in the registry. (according to KB191178 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191178)). After this everything continues to run smoothly. The thing is that i don't understand why it happens, and what to do to avert this thing happening.. After some research we discovered that at the time of failure, the data key in the registry (when we export it in a Registry Hive file, binary form) is exactly 1069056 bytes long, while when we delete it, and it is recreated by word, it is almost 10 times smaller. I saw that it grows slowly, and (it seems) randomly - although when i open it in the editor, among chunks of unreadable bytes, you can decipher the filenames where we copy the toolbars... Does Word stores them in some way in the registry? How do I turn this off? I already tried to turn off the MRU list, but it doesn't help. Maybe i do something wrong - e.g. leaving some files open etc. and then word writes info to the Data key and makes it grow, - maybe it eventually reaches 1MB size, and can't grow any more, so OrganizerCopy fails?  - Variance in word count Hi All I have an ordinary document where if I look at File - Properties - Stats, my wordcount is 256. This agrees with Tools -WordCount. In VB I execute x = ActiveDocument.Words.Count and x is 331. 256 is the correct word count. Can anyone explain how x becomes 331.  - Need program to convert plain text in doc into Word 2007 para Has anyone written a program that will scan through a word document that contains pasted plain text and removes the paragraph that is at the end of multi-line paragraphs? When I cut and paste from a plain text document into word, I get line lengths on each line that are determined by a paragrah mark (no word wrap). I've scoured the forums and help files & it appears that Word versions prior to 2007 had an autoformat feature that would do something like this. However, Word 2007 dropped that feature. It was a reliable piece of code, and stuff around it has changed but the key point is that if I "Run" the macro (which copies from a bookmark in one doc and pastes the text into another) the pastespecial fails (empty clipboard), but if I single step through the code it all works perfectly (NB I have over-ridden the Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut for paste, but what should that have to do with it?). I removed all the modules from Normal.dot and then re-imported them (not sure if I quit in-between though) but on this occasion it made no difference... have I missed a trick? Ideas? The problem is that all my documents have mushroomed to 800+ kb in size from 40kb previously. I had problem of the SQL writer. Every time I turn the computer on I get the
message the SQL writer is tamperd and /or corrupted needs to be repaired or
reinstall.
I tried to do that did not work out.
Then I removed the program.
Now the computer give the subject title to reinstall. It did not work out.
