    - remembering cursor location in macro I have created a macro which runs from Document 1 and creates Document 2 where it does some search and replace information which then needs to be copied back into Document 1. The problem is that it pastes the information at the beginning of the document and I need it to paste the information where the cursor was when the macro was initially run. What I'd like to do change/modify the data in the datasheet of this chart using vba or vbscript, but I don't know how to reference it. I tried using the StyleRef field, but it only allows me to copy the first or last piece of text and I need to copy all of the examples.     - scheduling a macro in word Hi I am using windows XP And Office XP. I have a document created in Microsoft Word called Monthly News.doc . It is obviously a monthly newsletter for my company. Each month I send it out as a mail merge to 250 people on my mailing list. I have a macro called Send_news that automatically prints this merge out. I want to schedule this event so that it runs automatically on the 30th of each month whether I am there or not. I want it to open the document monthly news and start the macro called send_news and then close word when it is completed.     - Controlling footers in code (Word 97) I have a template consisting mostly of 3 tables; normally, they all fit on one page, and there's a footer with a couple of signature blocks on it. I load these tables with data from an Access database, using OLE. I don't want to split a table over a page, so what I want to do is insert a page break just before the third table when there is more data than will fit on one page. If this happens, I don't want to print the footer on page 1. If it doesn't, and it all fits on one page, I do want to print the footer. I can figure out how to insert the break, but I can't seem to find anything on how to turn a footer on and off.     - Help! - Is there a way to save font + size across system? Is there anywhere to permanently set the 'font' and the 'size of font' for all word documents on my system? It seems there is already a default of 'Courier - 10' that every new document opens in that format and is saved that way. I would like to adjust the font and size to be larger across the board. Or at least to be larger when viewing them. You can adjust the size of fonts for all other programs using Control Panel - including for Internet Explorer and the general look of the computer.     - Text Form Field I am making a template in Word 2000. I am using text form fields. I need further formatting for two types of form fields than it seems I can get thru the form field options. One, I want a number mask like a SSN. ###-##-####. Enter nine numbers and it adds the dashes. Two, using regular text, I want one character to be entered, only selecting from the characters A,B, or C. Anything else won't work. Is there any way to set this up? Thanks.     - Return to the previous document I am trying to write a macro where I start from an open document. Then I open another document containing a grid that must be inserted into the first document. I copy the grid and return to the first document, paste the grid, then close the document containing the grid. My problem is returning to the first document. When I use the macro recorder, the line reads: Windows("Document2").Activate The document I want to return to is not necessarily name "Document2".     - Picture Sizing Hi I want a procedure in my template which simplifies the entering of pictures into a table, inserting them at the correct size. The procedure is in place but I cannot understand the meaurement units being used and cannot find any info in help about it - I have to have a set picture size but I can't seem to change the measurement unit. Please find the code below - the size I want for the photos is 6.5cm height x 5.5cm width but the code only seems to want to work on numbers in the hundreds, does anyone have any ideas what units are being used and how I can convert them to centimetres in the code or just how to work it out manually to enter the correct number. At the moment it takes the file from the server and updates the copies regardless of version. This is fine (or has bene up to now at least) as I always make sure the files on the server are the latest versions.     - Making Find and Replace dialog always open in enlarged view In Word 97, how can I alter the EditFind and EditReplace commands so that the Find dialog box always opens in its "More" state, with the formatting and other options displayed? I don't want to use SendKeys for this (using the SendKeys statement to activate the "More" button which opens the enlarged view) because SendKeys do not work in a macro that is run by a keystroke, and I only used the keystroke commands (Ctrl+F and Ctrl+H) to run the Find dialog box.     - Saving .dot files Any brilliant person out there who can make a "save as .dot" macro, that will automatically retain the original file name and file location, and save it as a .dot file? Bacground of why I would need such a thing is below. Thanks in advance for any help or thoughts anyone can offer! We use a lot of templates in Word. We are on Word 2003. Starting when we moved to Word XP, I have encountered a problem where my .dot files do not want to save correctly. In Word 97, if I opened my .dot file, it would open as .dot, I could work on it, and it would save as .dot. No problem. Now, for some reason, Word wants to save it as a .doc. Sometimes it warns me it is doing this, sometimes not. :( Even better, sometimes it *appears* to be a .dot, but it behaves like a .doc. Of course, several features of a template don't work correctly if it's not saved in the correct .dot format (for instance, the "createdate" field). I tried changing my default file format to be .dot, but that was a pain because then all my regular documents want to default to be saved in my personal templates folder. I tried changing my templates location so it at least pointed to the highest level of our shared templates, but that made it so my personal autotext and personal toobars didn't work (since my Normal.dot is saved in my templates directory. I can't save my Normal in the shared drive, I don't think, since that would probably over-ride everyone's personal Normal? I was afraid to try that.) The only way around this seems to be to always do a "save as" and specifically choose the .dot extension. Unfortunately, this automatically takes me to my personal templates folder (instead of the shared templates folder it originated from) so I have to re-navigate back to the correct folder (we have multiple folders for our shared templates, so they are split out onto separate tab in the Templates window) and then save. This is a pain. It's far more than a pain when Word sneakily makes a .dot file into a .doc and loses autotext and macros built into that file. (Yes, it should warn me, but it doesn't always do so. Really, I swear. I know you don't beleive me, but it's true. I have reported it to MS on their website, but to date have not seen anything in the Knowledgebase addressing it.) I'm sure this is some problem with our MS Word, but no one in my company's Tech Support wamts spend any time on the phone with Microsoft for this, since I'm the only one here who works on our templates. So, after struggling with this for a year or so, thinking maybe I would get used to it, or maybe I was crazy and it would finally stop doing it, I'm looking for other options.     - Shift enter mapping I created the Macros as Greg suggested but I am having a problem with it working. These macros were added to a template other than Normal.dot and I have placed the template in the startup folder. What I am finding is the first time I open MS Word the macros are not working. If I closed the initial document and create a new document the macros work. Does anyone know how I can get it working on the document that opens first?     - template macro I asked about a macro for making a document open in protected mode, with a custom toolbar showing. The protection macro is working great. So does the toolbar macro, as long as I'm opening the original template file for editing. However, when using File New to create a new document based on the template, the toolbar remains visible or not depending on the last user's setting.     - Insert logo Need a button (vba code) that inserts a logotype in a header (there is a bookmark b in a table). When the logotype is inserted and the user clicks on the button again it should not be inserted again. I also need the button that will remove the picture (logotype) if the user wants to undo the insert button. In brief: I use these bookmarks in the code of a audit report automation program (written in VBA for Word) and need to eleminate a document from which the program calls.     - Combining document with disparate styles I'm working on a project where I'm automatically combining two or more documents and I need to apply a consistent font throught the combined document. The problem is that doc A may have a style named X that uses a Helvetica font while doc B will have a style named Y that uses a Times Roman font. I have to apply a common style, but first I need to determine if these styles should be the same or if one is a heading style and the other a body text style. And I also won't know at runtime what styles to expect from the various documents I'll be assembling. Is the only solution to this problem to iterate through all the styles in a given document and do some basic heuristics on the discovered styles? For example, look at the properties of style X and decide if it is a heading style and then change the style a more generic style that is the best fit. Or would it be simpler to just update the font of all styles to use a pre-determined font family? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.     - Merging two documents A friend of mines asked me to help him with this project. We have two separate word documents. MovieTitles.doc and MovieInfo.doc Movietitles is just a document with movie titles formatted as follows: Godfather Speed Matrix etc. MovieInfo contains movie information such as: Godfather A cinematic classic depicting the lives of .... What we'd like to do is open both of these documents behind the scenes. If we have matching titles we want to create a third document that includes the movietitle from movietitles.doc and underneath the title we want to indent and include all of the movieinfo from the movie info from the movieinfo.doc We want the text bold and changed to the color blue. Finally we'd like to save this as a third document. So far they've been doing this manually. in my mind this process is screaming for automation. Any advise with this process is welcome.     - Margins of section xx error message Hi, I am using Word automation to print documents to a PDF driver and on some documents I am having a problem with the "Margins of section x lie outside the printable region". The problem I have is that I only get this on some machines (the ones I need to use!) and not on others. For example on a Win 2K machine with Word 2003 installed I get the error, but if I take the same document to an XP machine with Word 2003 installed the document prints OK to the same PDF driver. Changing to an alternative suppliers PDF driver does not cure the problem. I have tried changing normal.dot do that it is the same on both machines but this has no effect.I have made sure Page Setup has no margins, etc,etc. The PDF drivers are the same on both machines, Word has the same Service Pack level. This is driving me crazy as the production machines for this all need to be Windows 2K. Does anyone know what settings Word takes into account when produciing this message ? When I run the macro, it gives me an error that says, the Find What contains a Pattern Match that is not a valid Expression. Do you know what this means or why I am getting this error? When I try the insert file command from Word itself, a confirm conversion box will pop up, and allow me to force a "Plain text" conversion, which in turn leaves in the missing text after insertion.     - Text Selection with VBA Hello, I am new to VBA in Word and I was wondering if=20 someone could help me please! I have a string in a Word document that I want to copy=20 from Word and then copy to an Excel worksheet. But the=20 string has a hard return at the end of it. So how do I=20 copy from the beginning of the string to the hard return?=20 I know the position in the document that the string starts=20 at but I do not know how to copy only to the carriage=20 return. The only option when i right click is to ignore all. I think there should be an option to ignore once. It owuld also help because if someone accidently clicks it then they can easily fix it where as if they accidently click ignore all then they ahve to search the document for all the words they mis spelt.
