    - Limiting the Print Button I work in a centre for people with disabilities and we have a problem with students pressing the print button many multiples of times when they go to do a print. I did post a message a while back asking for any VBA that might be able to limit printing, the only suggestion I got was to replace the print button with the print dialog.     - Mail Merging I'm trying to merge data from an Access query. The problem I have is that my query has to display by grouping. I have a table query that shows over 200 company assigned cell phones where an employee is shown to have more than one. My query groups the information in a report that shows the employees FirstName, LastName, and the numbers each has under PhoneNum. I can trim their first names and middle initials and concatenate with the @company.com domain for their email addresses. I want to send out an individualized email to each asking them to confirm service: Dear <<FirstName>>, You have the following phone numbers assigned to you: <<PhoneNum>> this is where they are grouped from two to seven per employee then I want to have each sent to their individual email address. The mail merge wizard doesn't allow for grouping as an option, so it would only give me one line per record, duplicating each name with each phone assigned as a separate record.     - Bookmarks and respective reference fields I have set up a bookmark called "ReferringPhysician" in a document as well as a reference field {ReferringPhysician} to repeat the bookmark text at another location in the document. The fields are updating fine. Since I have a variety of different bookmarks and reference fields, I need to know how to reference a specific reference field so that the particular field and some surrounding punctuation can be deleted from the document if the variable for the ReferringPhysician bookmark is blank or empty of text.     - VBA need to minimize Excel from UserForm I have a VBA application that displays a UserForm that has a Minimize button on it. When I click it, the UserForm minimizes as it should but the Excel workbook that contains the UserForm does not. I've seen how some Userforms work and believe that would be helpful for my users to have a dialog box appear, they complete the fields and sections of the the form is automatically populated with their response. I've added watches for every variable in the routine and all the variables are there. The actual For Loop is working fine, and the bookmark exists but when I put in a message box, it won't even go to the message box. I have an identical For Loop higher in the code that works fine.     - document active but not really? I'm using C#. I've created a new document and saved it with SaveAs. Now I want to re-open the same document and allow the user to edit it, so I do Open and then Activate. Then Word's in this odd state with the correct filename in the title bar and the menus appear as if a file is open & active, but the document isn't showing!     - Macro to Save Multiple Word Documents with Different File Names Hi, I have to process some 5,000 documents, and need to change their filename at the same time. All of the documents have a name in the header in the format: Firstname Middlename (where it applies) Surname I need to save the documents as: Surname, Firstname Middlename.doc I know how to change the directory they're saved to, and I've managed to set up the macro to run on all files in a given folder. This is the only thing that's stopping me from being able to run the macro. I don't know what terms to actually search for to be able to find help on this, so I'm trying here. I've tried to create a Function that will let me create the filename, and then use that as the Save As option, but I can't get it to work, as I can't reference the Function in the SaveAs Filename:=" " It will only save as what I put in the " "... I've tried using brackets, and nothing, but no luck.     - View Zoom is killing me! I have this application, see, and when a user finishes editing a document, I want to display all of the pages of the document to them and put up a simple yes/no dialog. (true, the pages are potentially very small and unreadable, but the idea is just to give the user a general reassurance that, at a quick glance, they have not put an errant page break in and left a blank page or something) If they answer no to the dialog, I want to reset the view's zoom back to whatever it was previously, which I already stored before I changed the view's zoom to x pages by y columns.. If they answer yes, I want to set the zoom to page width so anyone else outside of our company who opens the document won't get some funky zoom by default. So, I can show all of the pages by setting .PageColumns and .PageRows, and I can restore the previous view by setting .Percentage to the value that was previously captured.... BUT, this causes all kinds of issues with the zoom in Word because it is seeming to "remember" the many-pages view, and when the user performs various actions, such as maximizing/restoring Word, sometimes switching to another application and back to Word, etc., Word will set the zoom back to the multiple-page view. Here is bare-bones macro that exhibits the problem. Interestingly, this was basically recorded using the macro recorder, yet doing the actions interactively as a user via the View|Zoom dialog works fine, but running the recorded code does not work well at all (per the above gripe). Public Sub Macro1() With ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.Zoom .PageColumns = 2 .PageRows = 2 End With ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.Zoom.Percentage = 100 End Sub If you run this macro, then maximize/restore Word, for example, you will be put back into a view that shows 4 pages (2 x 2).     - where is Auto Format? Auto Format in Word 2003. You would type common words in auto format so that when you typed the first 2 or 3 letters you would press enter for that word to be automatically inserted..     - Can't repeat nor redo VBA action The following applies to Word 2000, XP and 2003: I have written some VBA macros. When the users are using them, both the "Repeat" command in the "Edit" menu and the "Redo" button in the standard toolbar are greyed out. The "Undo" commands are okay though. One of the macros simply applies a style to the selected text: ActiveWindow.Selection.Style = ActiveDocument.Styles(sStyle) (sStyle being the tag of the action control clicked by the user) The users would like to repeat that command by using [ctrl]+[y] or by using [F4] instead of having to navigate to the action control with the mouse.     - "file not found" when attempting to run macro from list While attempting to run any macro from the list that Word displays, I receive an error message of "file not found." This occurred right after running a macro successfully. The list of macros is surely there, as is Normal.dot, I believe with the same size it was before this started happening. As possible remedies (which didn't work), I ran the Office repair utility and set Windows back to the last restore point. I copy and paste the text of my macro modules to a file but I had done a lot of updating lately and hadn't done this backup procedure recently, and it would be really nice if I could figure this out and recover whatever it is that's missing. I did notice Norton running a check on Normal.dot before it happened so I guess it's possible that a virus got past Norton into the file. I have my macro security set on high (second from the top) and it says there is a viurs scanner installed, though I don't do all the updates like I should.     - Customize Ribbon UI Posting here as I lack knowledge of a better place and in hopes a developer type is lurking around. I am looking for a step by step procedure (that actually works) for making a simple customization to the Word2007 Ribbon UI. All I want to do is add my own tab and add a button to that tab that will fire a macro. I have read and reread the article "Customizing the Office (2007) Ribbon UI for Developers Part 1 of 2 and tried the procedures listed there at least a dozen times and every time the resulting document won't open and generates and error that it is corrupted. Here is the procedure that I have tried: I opened an new file and created a macro as shown. I digitally signed the project. Sub MyMacro(ByVal control as IRibbonControl) MsgBox("Hello World") End Sub I saved the document as an Open XML Formats file that is macro-enabled and has the file name extension .docm. i.e., saved as Test.docm I created a file in Notepad with the following XML markup and saved it as customUI.xml: <customUI xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2006/01/customui"> <ribbon startFromScratch="true"> <tabs> <tab id="CustomTab" label="My Tab"> <group id="SimpleControls" label="My Group"> <button id="Button1" imageMso="HappyFace" size="large" label="Large Button" onAction="ThisDocument.MyMacro" /> </group> </tab> </tabs> </ribbon> </customUI> I put customUI.xml in a folder on the desktop named customUI I then add a .zip exention to Test.docm i.e., Test.docm.zip The next steps says to "double-click the file name to open it for viewing" Hmm...I don't really follow this part as double-click a file with a .zip extension doesn't really "open it for viewing." It does open the WinZip application and I am able to perform the next steps. I add the customUI folder to the Zip container. I extract the .rels file to the desktop. I open the .rels file in the text Notepad I add the following line between the last <Relationship> element and the </Relationships> element, and then save and close the file: <Relationship Id="someID" Type="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2006/relationships /ui/extensibility" Target="customUI/customUI.xml" /> I drag the _rels folder from the desktop to the Zip container file. Remove the .zip extension from the container file. Finally I *try* to open the macro-enabled file in Word 2007 and an error message is generated indicating the is corrupt and contains content that cannot be read. John McGhee in attempting to offer a solution stated that: 1. I had to have a name to go along with "someID." I have no idea what name to use and the code snippet is copied word for word from the example in the article. 2. docm files are already zipped so ignore the bit about adding the .zip extension and open the file in Notepad using WinZip. I don't follow what he means and unless I add the .zip extension I don't see a .rels folder in the file container. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong and hopefully someone can step me through a precedure that works or perhaps direct me to a group that may be able to assist. Thanks.     - Word/Excel toggle I have a macro that picks up information from Word and pastes it into Excel. It then makes a couple additional changes and queues the user to review the results with a mesg box. If everything is well, the user selects OK and the macro continues with some additional changes. If not, the user selects cancel and makes some changes manually. This is my first attempt at toggling between Word and Excel so I have a vague understanding of what's happening, but it seems that all of the actions to be performed in Excel require "oXL." before the line of code. However, when I get the message box, placing oXL. before the line of code gives me a message of "Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment". However without it, it goes back to Word to prompt. It runs fine after that, but I can't review the information in Excel without switching back and forth. I have tried a number of ways to get the newly created word doc to update the graphs and docvariables, and then break the links - but have reached a dead-end. The unlink method, if sent to the fields property of the active document, appears to stop the update method for wdfieldlinks, but not wdfielddocvariables - so I end up with a doc that has incorrect graphs - but correct, updated data. Whenever I download from web sites and need the document to open I am not
given the option to choose what source opens the document however microsoft
word automatically opens it, I guess at some point I had selected microsoft
word to be default to open web pages but now I dont know how to change it
back and let internet explorer selects the best document to use.
