    - How to do copy-and-paste easily between a userform and a blank Word Hi, I have created a userform which takes input of information. When I move the mouse out of the userform and click on another Word document to copy some information, it forbids me to do so. I can't copy any information on that Word document which I want to paste to the userform. May I ask how I can switch to another Word document from a userform, copy information from there and paste it to the userfom conveniently? Thank you.     - HyperLink editing in Word VBA - Hyperlinks.Item(Index) value not r Hello; First my purpose.....to help a friend with an office automation problem (see other posts I have made) with updating the text that is displayed in hyperlinks. It may be that using some other field or tag may work better..opinions and solutions please... NOTE: Some of the below code is from other posts/contributors in this forum (Thank You macropod!). The problem is in legal pleading type pages, there needs to be a table with a column of crossreferences that list the page and linenumber (that may not be possible to do automatically I am finding) or section/heading/numbering. Some type of fields will automatically update on F9 like page number using the PAGE or PAGEREF field code. Same thing with almost everything except line number. In order to exploit if a line number solution is possible I am enumerating the various properties of the fields. At the moment (having never used the office automation but having C#/Ansi C/ and some VB5-6 experience) I am struggling to get the included below code to do the following (it seems pertinent to do, but if I am in error please advise me so): Cycle through all the fields in the ActiveDocument <seems to work> If the field is a hyperlink, display the Text to display, target, address, subaddress, index number. <does not work> Then using the index number, access the hyperlink object from the hyperlinks collection using the index number to get/display the properties. <note coded yet> If the field is a bookmark, display the Title of the bookmark, display the page it is located on, most importantly (I think) is get the character range (ie start and end) so that I might be able to get the linenumber from one of the properties of the range object after setting the range object to the bookmarks start and end position. <note coded yet> For each hyperlink, change the Text to display to the following format:Page/LineNumber or Page,LineNumber <seems to work> Count total of HyperLinks in document Please advise where I have improperly coded or assumed the schema.     - LINEREF ...Where is it? Help, It is easy enough to discover the page number of a bookmark using PAGE or PAGEREF (w/o even programming). If Line Number is turned on for the active document how does one find the line number of the bookmark on a given line? On several proposal documents we must show the page and line reference of the related item. To do this, we place a bookmark attached to the selected text or object, then use the PAGE or PAGEREF field to get the page#, but we have to type the line number in manually......isnt this supposed to be helping us to not crane our necks at a monitor...?     - macro for Office 2007 good afternoon, i'm using Office 2007 on Vista and would like to make a macro for a template. the template uses building blocks (date calander and select from drop down list) in multiple locations. i would like the macro to save using the date that was selected from the calander and the text that was entered into one of the fields (the person's name.) if this was in excel, i could do this because the file name could be referenced via the cell values, i could save the file and email it and leave the template intact.     - Extract Address from existing document I've been trying to update some old WordBasic code (written by someone else) that no longer works in Word 2003. We have an label macro for our users that lets the user pick what type of mailing label they need (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.) then asks if they want to hand input the address, pull an address from our database, or pull the address from an open document. While the rest of the code has been updated for some time, this piece worked, so we just left it alone (the "if it's isn't broke, don't fix it" attitude!) I've tried several things using the Wordbasic conversion tables in Word, but haven't had any luck. I'm hoping someone here can help.     - Visual Basic Macro I got MS Word to write a macro for me. It didn't work. The macro should perform the following tasks on a merged document. The document is merged with an Excel spreadsheet and an MS Word template. The fields on the Word document are filled-in with the data from Excel. This part works just fine and creates approximately 3,800 letters! The MS Word macro must: 1. Save each letter in a separate file. a. Pull the control number from each document. b. Save each file as "CB xxx.doc" where xxx is the control number. 2. Advance to the next letter in the file. 3. Repeat steps (1) and (2). This is the code that I have so far.     - Can't access Bookmark I am currently working in Words Version 2003. The macro works find. When someone else try to use it with Version 2000, it comes with "Run time error 4605 - This method or property is not available because the object refers to a protected area of the document."     - Question about Using a Macro from another Template I have a question about being able to use a macro which is located in another Template. (Chess players use text files called PGN files to store and retrieve chess games and chess problems. You can read/understand â??text fileâ?? every place I write â??PGN file.â??) Iâ??ve been: (1) opening a PGN file using Word (1st Word File); (2) opening a new Word file based on my template (2nd Word file); (3) Cutting and pasting the PGN information from the 1st file into the 2nd; (4) running my macro which is located in my template; (5) the macro opens a new document based on my template (a 3rd Word file) and transforms the PGN information in the active document (2nd Word file) into this newly opened document (3rd Word file). I could save time if I could open a text file in Word using my template. But I donâ??t see any option for doing that. Or I could save time if I could use my macro (which is located in my new template) from any other Word file. The only solution which I can come up with is that I could copy my macro from my template into the Normal template. That would cutout steps 2 & 3 (as listed above). Is there any other way of running a macro which is located in another template? Or am I better off simply copying it into the Normal template?     - Word fill in form I inherited a Word fill-in form. I was told the yes and no check boxes were not working correctly. Instead of just using the yes, no check boxes, the user wanted the person who fills out the form to only select yes or no. If you select no, yes would be unchecked.     - Background instance of Word and Normal.dot Hi all, I am working on an Office add-in for Office 2003 which is used with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Of the three applications, I've only encountered this particular issue with Word. What happens is that the add-in will generate the custom menu items that are added and it will work fine...for a while. For some reason, at some point in time, a background, embedded instance of WINWORD.EXE (embedded as in it's parent process is svchost.exe and it's started with the -Embedding switch). What also happens at this time is that the Normal.dot template file is modified. This has the effect of rendering our add-in to not load with the Word application. I've noticed that Outlook 2003, if you choose the option to use Word as your email editor, starts a background instance of WINWORD.EXE when you create a new email. However, I've also observed in my test environment, that when I shutdown Outlook, it does not alter the Normal.dot file and the WINWORD.EXE process that it starts is shut down. Has anyone experienced issue with a background instance of Word which causes the Normal.dot to be modified? Could this be linked to a some anti-virus software? Any insight would be appreciated.     - Word fields set by Dsofile not updating I've got an old asp.net app that populates some custom fields on a word document it generates. These fields are embeded in the text so that the values are inserted into the letter (things like addressee_name etc) and can be seen when the document is opened. To do some maintenance we have moved the app onto a new (virtual) development server but now the text doesn't get updated immediately when the properties are written - yet this does happen on our production system. If you Select All and Update Fields (Ctl-A, F9) the values appear so the properties are being written OK. Does anyone know what I am missing? When I open the document there are 2 form fields. When text is added to the fields it auto-populates fields in the header.     - clicking in protected forms: MS knowledge base article ID: 839950 Hello, I inherited a protected template that has a really obnoxious idiosyncrasy related to form fields; I found the idiosyncrasy listed in the MS knowledge base as article ID: 839950. In summary, the user must click or tab from one form field into another form field on a protected document or Word does not run the form field's 'on entry' and 'on exit' macros. Note that in this template the 'on exit' macro does data validation and therefore when the user clicks into some other area of the document the data is not validated at that time (this template uses text and checkbox form fields). Although another form field in the template calls a macro that identifies form fields that have not been validated properly, overall this comes across as a poor design and depending on the user, can be very frustrating/confusing. It has been suggested that we use some type of timer to trigger a validation of the data before the user removes the focus. However, that idea seems to be insufficient, because how do we trigger the timer if the 'on entry' macro was bypassed. Also, it would be tricky to know how long to wait before forcing the data to be validated (assuming that it could even be done, since the user has not necessarily removed focus from the control). After that suggestion, I started thinking about keeping track of the "current" form field with an index counter and validating the data if the counter does not match the selected form field's name (the names all have an imbedded index that can be identified for processing). This idea seems limited becuase if the user leaves several form fields "improperly" how would I know which ones to validate. I've also been looking for some way to capture a click event in the protected non-form field areas, but apparently the click events are always tied to a form field. An obtuse 'solution' that I proposed is to include in the template an explanation of how to enter/exit the form fields 'properly' (obviously not the desired path).     - Formatting via a macro Hi, I have an A3 page that has a single 3 x 3 table as its contents. 5 of the 9 table cells contain Excel charts imported as pictures using a macro built into the source XL workbook. This bit works :-) What I now want to do is record a macro (within Word) that captures the final formatting of each of these pictures (so that I can embed this code into the XL workbook).     - Make OnAction refer to a macro in a specific file I'm having the same problem as Richard below. I have a sub that creates a list of boilerplate documents from filenames in a folder. The Onaction calls another sub that creates a new document and inserts the boilerplate in it.     - Mail Merge Programming problem In Word, I have a letterhead template that contains a writer's block in table format. The macro that gets data from an Excel table works fine in Word 2003, but in Word 2007 the merge does not execute. It pulls data only from the first row of the table. Could someone advise me as to what might be wrong? Below is my code.     - Macro Conditional Statement Hi there, I am a medical transcriptionist with very little programming experience, but have written a series of macros to copy/paste reports into my client's Word-based document. Unfortunately, although I've written some steps into the macro which would make it difficult to paste one patient's report into the wrong patient's demographics, it has still happened. When part 1 of the macro runs, this is how the patient info lines look: Correct: 32460 reagan xr chest (obtained from demographics in client's header) 32460 reagan xr chest (from our typed report) Incorrect: 32460 reagan xr chest 42460 reagan xr chest As you can see, in the Incorrect sample, the numbers don't match. From what I've gathered so far, I need to insert the two patient info lines into a table and have the program abort if the A1 cell of the table doesn't match the A2 cell. I would like it to print out "ABORT" if it doesn't match and just continue as normal if it does. I would really appreciate any help I can get.     - Font related What I would like to do is: Insert fonts (to my vb6 application) from the ' symbol font file ' like character codes ' 230, 231, 231, 232 ' in a vertical position without any gap between them to form a tall ' parentheses '. There's no problem inserting them with the gap but it's ugly! How do you adjust the vertical offset to behave as a single unit or whatever to accomplish this?     - Recursive directory search- syntax question I've tried to adapt some old code to recursively check for word files in the target directory so I can open each one and inspect the contents with VBA (per my previous post). Unfortunately, the following code appears to hang on the .execute command. Right now, the test directory has about 50 files and no subdirectories. CPU and network access are nominal, so AFAIK this doesn't appear to be a situation where it is just taking forever to execute (although I welcome suggestions on how to know for sure). Is my syntax wrong, or can anyone suggest alternative troubleshooting?     - Error in Doc with Protected Section Here's my doc (Word 2003): Section 1 contains a table and a paragraph mark. Then a continuous section break. Section 2 contains some form fields and text. Then a continuous section break. Section 3 contains a table. I protect the document, indicating only Section 2 should be the protected section. Sections 1 and 3 are unprotected. Tabbing through the form fields works great in Section 2. However, when I then go to one of the tables in the unprotected sections and attempt to tab, I get Runtime Error 4605: This method or property is not available because the object refers to a protected area of the document. I can, however, tab at the empty paragraph mark at the end of Section 1 with no error, and I can edit anything in the unprotected sections without error.     - pulling select table rows based on content, pasting to new word doc (or Excel) I've done a bit of VBA in Excel, but have less experience with the Word object model. I was just asked to help a colleague with an 'urgent' project involving opening every .doc file in a target directory, checking each row in each table to identify rows that have four columns, then for any of those that have "V" in the second column, copy the row plus the document name into a new file (either Word or Excel should work). Can anyone point me to code snippets for cycling through cells within a row, table rows, and entire tables? I assume the endcode will be a syntax appropriate versions of the following, but if I have similar code it will be faster to adapt it than try to do it all from scratch while learning the object model.     - Hyperlink problem in vba I'm writing a Word VBA function that process hyperlinks within word documents. Since Work can also convert web sites into hyperlinks as well, I check that the Hyperlink.Address property begins with "mailto" to make sure I only process email addresses. Here's a sample of my code: objDocument.Range.AutoFormat For Each HLink In objDocument.Hyperlinks E_Mail = Split(HLink.Address, ":", 1) If E_Mail(0) = "mailto" Then .... Endif ...... Endif The problem is that I get an error on the third line, telling me that Hyperlink has been deleted. Yet I clearly have two email addresses in the document. In other cases I get a different error message saying that the Address method of object Hyperlink failed (caused by the same line, the third line). When I step code during debugging, I get 2 for objDocument.Hyperlinks.Count which is what I'm supposed to get since there are 2 hyperlinks in the document. Can anyone shed some light on this? Select the picture then use Format|Picture menu Item. Select the
"Behind Text" wrapping style from the Layout tab.

You should then be able to overlap text/textbox etc with the picture.
