    - How to find the new document created by a mail-merge? Hi, I am splitting my document into several new documents (by section) and then performing a mail merge with each section (usually with different data sets). How do I find the document object that was created as a result of the mail merge? I can't find it in the original documents merge object anywhere. I can't assume it is the last document in the application documents collection, as the user may be doing other things with another word document while the merge is proceeding. Any hints about this?     - macro/form to prompt user for input (in WORD) Simple request: Want to create macro/form to prompt user to imput a "word". This word will then be placed on a formated page that allows fifteen different words/phrases arranged in three columns, five rows. These can be printed out to create flash cards for language study. By having an input box, it eliminates all of the tabbing & entering to put these words in the correct place on the page. KNOW it's possible & simple.     - Remembering Values Hi I have created a user form for memos and faxes. I would like to be able to remember the last 4 recipient details entered. Initially I thought of creating 4 documents, each with a name and job title bookmark, when i click button number 1 on my user form it would look in document1 read the bookmark values and pop them into the text boxes in the user form. If the user overtypes the text in the text boxes it rewrites the text in the bookmarks in the relevant document. I can't seem to find any mention of how to read bookmark values - do I need to use something else?? would autotext or a table or even excel be any easier for storing data. But is there an object that keeps all the Word objects ((or) references to them) as they appear in the document.     - Closing MSWord Read-Only file I have created a merge template ("Document.dot") that contains a macro to perform the merge and other subsequent actions. The last macro step is to close the original merge document without changes: ' Close the original merge form Documents("Document.dot").Close SaveChanges:=wdDoNotSaveChanges This works fine. Now I want to make the template Read-Only to protect it from inadvertent user changes. When I do that, I get an error message saying the document doesn't exist.     - How to restrict certain fields on a form? I am being asked to create a form that encompasses several different forms. The forms are for different types of contracts. Most of the fields are the same for all of the forms, but there are some fields that are not needed depending on the type of contract. In doing so I can't make the pages run on from each other - there are always blanks in between the print, although print preview tells me I'll get what I want.     - Followup re Excel/Word OLE error I posted a query regarding an error described below. It was suggested by another to check the Excel & Word VBA references for any that were missing. The blank instances of each were fine but trying to check for my Excel/Word app is difficult as the client is long distance and I don't want to give them the password to unlock it. So I sent an unlocked copy of the app with code removed. My Office version is 2003 and theirs XP or 2002. When the client installed my app in the right directory it showed all the proper references, correctly showing MS Excel 10.0 Object Library and MS Office 10.0 Office Object Library. But it shows MS Word 11.0 Object Library (what was in the app send from my Office 2003 system) as Missing. Any ideas if that is clue to the problem or what it could be? Would the steps I took above be adequate to check the references or do I need to do it another way? Again, any help appreciated.     - Find Replace with Section Breaks Hey, I have a somewhat complicated merge request. The user needs a section break after two words (Recommendations and Discussion - both bolded in TNR, 11 pt) in a document. These words may appear once or several times, but there needs to be a section break after each one. I was trying to create a macro, but I'm not sure what the code or character is for section break. I know the find character is ^b, but that doesn't work for replace. So, in a nutshell I need a way to find the two words and add a section break after each one.     - Formatting a form I have a form that I'm designing. It is a lesson plan for teaching. I have a table laid out and have each form field set (i.e. Date, Grade, etc). I am trying to make my table as "static" as possible, so that when entries the table is not resized. I've been doing this by simply setting the cell height to "exactly" X pt. First question is, is there a better way to fix the size of a cell, so that when a user is typing in the form it doesn't let them expand the table size? The next, more important question is somewhat related. I have a section with 3 columns: Time | Activity | Assessmen ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (LINE A) 1:30 | Reading | Discussed topic in class | | .. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------(LINE B) the above is an example of a possible row entry in this section of my form. I have 10 rows of form entries for the Time, Activity and Assessment, each getting there own height of 14 pt, and predetermined width. The thing is, the entry for "Activity" could be more characters then the width of the column, causing a line break, but it wouldn't show up on the form because the cell height is fixed. And at the same time, I might not use all 10 rows of the entry, but the form field description still remains (i.e. "Enter Activity here"). My question is: The distance between LINE A and LINE B above needs to remain the same, and the width needs to remain the same, but I want the "interior" rows to be expandable. The number of entries can also change. So, is it possible to have a button or macro that creates the row entries one at a time as the user needs them, that way they could write a few lines if needed, and not impede on the next field. If that's not possible, is it possible to have the form field "description"'s that have not been entered on be removed, either by a macro, or some other setting.     - Edit Word Document Comments using VBA I would like to be able to open a userform to edit the comments at the cursor positon (Selection) of my document. I know I can run through all of the Item(x) in the ActiveDocument.Item(x).Range.Text to get All the documents from my document one by one. But I would like to be able the find out which (Item number) is directly at my Selection point. I would like to use VBA code to edit comments in a user form instead of the usual comment window. I would like to run some VBA code to retreive the text portion of the comment, then edit it in a user form, then copy the edited comment back to the original comment. In case you wonder why I want to do this it is because when I am working with split windowpanes and open a comment to edit it, after closing the comment edit window my split pane will also disappear. Once the user answers the questions, the document will be filled in with their response. I once created a document in a word template like this and I can't remember how to do it.     - Adding To Trusted Publishers Through Certificate Authority and Sharepoint Hi All: This has elements of Office, Small Business Server and Sharepoint, so I'm going to post to all three groups in the hope of finding an answer. Our office runs Small Business Server 2003, and uses the included Sharepoint Companyweb as its intranet. As part of that, we have put our Word 2003 templates onto companyweb. Works slick....except that some of our templates have a VBA program, running as a macro, that is blocked whenever Word is in High Security for macro's. We could go to Medium security, but it's a pain for users to click on enabling all the time, or we could go to low security (which I won't do for obvious reasons). My question is how, if at all, I can certify the macro or the Sharepoint site so that individual users can leave settings on High security, and still run this particular macro. Can it be done with our SBS box as a Certification Authority, or am I going to have to go third party? Is third party the only way to add someone to Trusted Publishers for Word? Yes, I know that selfcert can solve this, but as I understand, it has to be run on each individual workstation, and I'd rather not have to go through all of it.     - Cannot "mail merge" images? Hi there, I'm wanting to "mail merge" images from a directory into my document. I am currently able to merge all fields *except* the images. Here is a simplified version (a little test I've been doing). I have created a document with a merge field called "thePath" and an "IncludePicture" field, which has a mergefield as its location (once again "thePath" ). Like so: { MERGEFIELD thePath } { INCLUDEPICTURE "{ MERGEFIELD thePath }" \* MERGEFORMAT } My data source is a very simple flat file, which looks like this: "thePath" "C:\\1.jpg" "C:\\2.jpg" , and is saved as "merge.txt". Of course, I know 1.jpg and 2.jpg exist. Now, when I select the data source and merge to a new document from the merge document, I end up with the correct values for { MERGEFIELD thePath }, but "empty" images for the INCLUDEPICTURE field. What am I doing wrong here? Also, a related question: Is it possible to EMBED "{ MERGEFIELD myOLEObjectFile }"? This would be extremely useful as I am mail merging not just images and text, but also a specific kind of OLE object. It would save me having to iterate through the document, replacing them manually via. Automation (which would be amazingly slow). As a result of my user's need for one-file deployment/distribution, I think that throws out add-in's, DLLs, and most other methods of securing my code.     - Making macros run faster I have a macro that can potentially take a long time to run. I would like to know what I can do to get it to run faster, and get an estimate of how much time would be saved so I can determine if making the changes would be worthwhile. Basically the macro is the first part of a program that automatically edits long documents composed of many smaller documents. It automatically compiles the long document from the many smaller documents, depending on selections made by the user. Since the large document can potentially include 500 smaller documents, this compilation process can take some time, particularly on slower computers. The first approach I know of to make this run faster is is to turn off screen updates while the macro runs, which I have done (by the way, any estimates on how much time this saves?). I know there are other similar methods, but I am not sure what they are. For instance, something that would be like turning the monitor off. The second thing I know to try is to change the way documents are compiled. Currently, for every document to be included in the larger document its template is opened, copied, closed, and then pasted into the larger document. I think that using InsertFile would be much faster (it seems to be when I use it for other things), however each document becomes a seperate "chapter" in the large document and needs its own footers. When I tried the InsertFile method, the footers in the large document were incorrect. I assume I could have resolved this (not sure how), but opening, copying, closing, pasting worked fine, so I stuck with it. How much time could be saved using InsertFile vs. my current method? I want to auto-invoke the macro. I am able to do so. But after invoking the toolbar the events like clicking on a button on the toolbar or selecting from the combo-box nothing happens.
