Hi All,

We are trying to open a word file from someone who uses his own
template.
I think we have the same ip address on our servers so word is scanning
the our server
first for the document before opening it.
Is there no way to open this document by ignoring the user made
template and use the
normal.dot?

This is a known bug in Word. If a document is based on a template stored on
a network drive (rather than a local drive), and the document is moved to a
machine where the network template is no longer available, there is a long
delay before the document will open.

Wait a few minutes (perhaps as long as 5-10 minutes) and the document will
eventually open. Then save it to another location with normal.dot attached.

There is a hotfix available to cure the problem. Take a look here
