    - Word to PDF without print driver Hello! It's great that new Word 2007 will have "Publish to PDF" add-in, which creates PDF files *without using printer driver*. Currently I use FinePrint pdfFactory to convert .doc files to PDF, but it is implemented as "virtual printer" driver. http://www.fineprint.com/ Similar solution is free PDFCreator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDFCreator Is there an add-in that enables to save Word files as PDF for older versions of Word (2000/XP/2003), that does not rely on printer driver?     - Word 2003 - Automating Letter Template I have a letter template, complete with fillin fields for name/address, subject, salutation etc which all works fine. When it comes to completing the body of the letter, I'd prefer NOT to use a fillin field, but to perhaps automatically move the cursor to the correct point once all fillin fields have been completed.     - Changing font for unicode characters Hi, I had a problem in MS Word that started off from the Equation Editor. Somehow some of my definitions for font styles seemed to be reset and I (apparently) mistakenly thought that I had set Palatino Linotype as the font for _everything_, but actually I discovered that I only get correct rendering if "Symbol" is set to the Symbol font. Otherwise minus sign (or "en dash"), "identical to" and other characters come out 'wrong'. You can play around with this if you're interested, but it's more by way of background to my actual question. I wondered why the "identical to" character (Unicode 2261 [HEX]) wasn't rendering correctly in Equation Editor with "Symbol" is set to the Palatino Linotype font. I decided to investigate the rendering of the font in the body of the document in a variety of fonts ...in fact, _every_ installed font. Therefore I created and ran the following macro: Sub macro2() For Each afont In FontNames Selection.Font.Name = afont Selection.InsertAfter "2261" Selection.ToggleCharacterCode Selection.InsertAfter " " & afont & vbCr Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdStory Next afont End Sub This should run fine for you provided your security settings are apropriately configured. It is not convenient to reproduce the output, as it spans several pages, but I found that the results were not as expected. For example, for what should have been Palatino Linotype, the "identical to" character was rendered in Arial Unicode MS. As I watched the Selection.Font as the code was stepped through, I noticed that discrepancies arose between Selection.Font.Name Selection.Font.NameAscii Selection.Font.NameBi Selection.Font.NameFarEast and Selection.Font.Name.Other Is this an application 'feature', a known MS bug, an unknown MS bug, or is _my_ code buggy?     - Approval VBA Macro We have documents that need to go through a formal approval process. Without getting into workflow, etc..., I just need a simple macro that will grab the currently logged on userid along with the date/time stamp. I'm a novice vba user and have done some vba stuff in Excel. Actually, I was able to do this in Excel by creating a control box and when the user clicked either Yes or No, their username and the date/time stamp appeared next to the check box. Oh, in Excel I have two checkboxes, one for yes and one for no. If they change their mind and uncheck the box then their username and date/time disappear. I need this same functionality in Word as well as to have these "approval" fields locked after it is accepted or rejected (for auditing purposes). I have found some Word code but it makes no sense to me because unlike Excel there are no cell, sheet, etc... references. I would appreciate any help I can get on this. Thanks!     - Trying to copy formatted text _without_ Style? I get documents with a mish-mash of styles and formatting applied directly to the text. I am wondering if there is some way I could copy all of the text and any direct formatting over into a new doc based on my own template, but not any styles. I tried FormattedText in VBA, but the style came into the new document with the text - so did Edit>>Paste Special>>RTF. I'm beginning to think I would need to crawl through every word of every paragraph, capture any formatting applied in an array, paste the text over as unformatted, then read the paragraph word by word and apply any formatting in the array. This does not work for fields inserted into the same document from the Control Toolbox. This runs in a loop and after doing SaveAs I need the original document to do the same again.     - Printing Forms from Macros I have created some protected forms for users but I also have a customized printing menu. This enables the users to print to different paper trays (we have several) easily without having to go CTRl P change the paper type and remember which tray is which each time.     - Adding watermark to every page Hi all, I have a bit of a panic on the go here and would like to ask for assistance. Can anyone suggest how I could programmatically (using VBA) add a watermark to every page in every section in a 10 to 20 page word doc? I want to add the word "COPY". I thought maybe I could add a specific sized textbox with hidden borders, containing COPY in large pale grey font colour (maybe running vertically in the textbox). This switches them from page layout view to normal view and creates a header pane at the bottom of the document to allow the user to edit the header. This is not what I want.     - RegEx Range.Text object corrupting embedded footnotes I have a macro which processes text using Regular Expressions (to find run-in heads in paragraphs). It seems that regular expressions will only work on the Range.Text object and not Range.FormattedText. I thought I had most of the kinks worked out of this but found a new wrinkle yesterday. It seems that, if the text of a paragraph is altered by a RegEx, then the embedded footnotes in that paragraph are broken. I have a sense that this is because the proper information isn't be passed back to the document by the Range.Text object when a replacement is made (duh). Before I sit down and write a macro that cuts out the embedded footnotes and replaces them with a marker before the RegEx is run and then reverses the replacement after the RegEx is run, I thought I would check with the experts and see if there are any better (and easier) approaches out there. I have tried replacing the RegEx searches with S/R using Word's wildcard search options but can't achieve the desired search complexity with them. I always run into the "expression is to complex" error. As a side question, are the limitations of Word's Wildcard Search listed anywhere. The one major one I've encountered is the limitation to 7 groups instead of the regular 9. There seem to be others but I can't recall them right now. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.     - custom dictionaries seem to get corrupted Dear all, My custom dictionaries (for spelling checks) often don't accept newly added terms, or I have to klick 'Add' twice before a new entry is added, and then, Word stops again at newly added term as if they weren't already in the dic file. Now when I open the dic file, some entries seem to be displayed vertically (ech letter is a new entry). Other entries are in the file twice (AV-button). Can anyone explain/solve this behavior?     - Putting a custom toolbar just after the standard toolbar In a global add-in (.dot) file I have some code that adds a toolbar. I would like this toolbar to show on the same row as the standard toolbar and just behind it. So, it may have to squeeze between the standard toolbar and the formatting toolbar. The template has been revised a few times, and the code in the template has been tweaked. Would that have anything to do with it? What other details should I give? I've got a problem with a few users (out of 55) whose Word sessions crash *every* time they open a document based on a certain automated template I created. The protected sections have text fields that are bookmarked, and one macrobutton that allows the user to add extra lines. There are a few macros built into the template that run when the user enters and exits certain fields. There is also code built into the template that allows the user to click a button and send the information to a database into Access. For 90% of the users, there are no problems working with the documents based on this template. However, I've got a few users whose Word sessions crash every time they open a document based on this template. I have tried renaming their Normal templates and updating Office 2003 with the latest patches. The problem is I don't know where to begin to diagnose the problem. Why can most users open the documents based on the template but those few can't? Can someone please tell me where I should begin looking? I've tried recreating the problem on my computer, but I can open the documents just fine - no crashing. I don't know if I should be looking at a setting, if I should attempt to recreate the template, remove the code from it, check out libraries, or what. Maybe if I understood a little better what happens when you open a document that is based on a template that has fields and macros, I'd understand where to begin diagnosing the problem.
