    - Macro to find and delete specific table Hello, We have a one-row, blank table appearing at the bottom of page 1 in hundreds of documents (it is not in the footer). This was due to a conversion utility that was used on these docs. Anyway, I need to create a macro that searches the doc for this table but I can't use a specific table number in the tables collection because there may be other legitimate tables in some of the documents, either before or after the blank table. I have created a userform in Word that users will utilize in inserting information into a letter. Essentially, I want to extract OUTLOOK information about a user (specifically, phone number and/or email address of the person drafting the letter) and automatically insert that into the form and ultimately the letter. It works well at my end.     - problems with Find Hi, I'm writing an add-in for Word that does a lot of find/replace operations. Some of these I do using Range.Find.Execute2007... for more complex problems I built a Regex find/replace engine. There is one point at which I am performing two searches back to back on the same range (two duplicates of the same range, that is). Both strings are present in the range. When I attempt to debug it I can verify this. One find succeeds, the second one fails, but if I reverse the order, the same one fails whether before or after the other... well... here's the text in the range that I'm searching: ========================================================================= "SCHEDULE A TRUST ESTATE PROPERTY The following described property is hereby conveyed and transferred to, and deposited with TRUSTEE, Trustee of THE REVOCABLE LIVING TRUST, subject to the terms and conditions of the foregoing Trust Agreement: Real Estate: All real estate wherever situated, owned by Grantor or in which Grantor has an interest. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong here? Is this a known issue? If so, any work-arounds? If I use my own regex system it works just fine, but my concern is that I am using Word's internal find throughout my add-in, but I have not taken the time to check to make sure that every find is working as it ought to... if, after my code finishes running, I go into Word and open its Find window and copy/paste the quote directly out of my code, it finds "THE REVOCABLE LIVING TRUST" just fine... so I'm stumped...     - Customization of Citations in Word 2007 Hi all, i am customizing Word 2007 in-built citation. I managed to create own citation style.(adding a xsl file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Bibliography\Style folder. with this approach I am able to add new citation style. also i added some new sources in the citation. By default Word 2007 provides sources like book, film, article in a periodical etc. I added new sources by adding some new sources in Bibform.xsl file in Word 2007 folder in Program Files. Now, whenever i select this new citation style or the Word 2007 inbuild citation style (like APA, Chicago etc), and do add new source, i am able to see all the sources (Word 2007 default sources + the ones i added). Is there any way to mention which sources should be shown in particular citation style ...? Any pointers on this would be of great help.     - really big problem please help! I have purchased a dig cert fir VBA projects. I have created my forms, signed the project under tools, digital certificates adn saved my forms (they are in .DOT format). How come when I reopen them the form says that teh current form is not signed (no certificate) but my cert shows in the sign as area. I checked before I closed the document adn my certificate was appearing as signed, but when reopend was not there! HELP!     - Endnotes and formatted text Hi, I am trying to create a Word C# add-in that will find all of the endnotes in a document, re-sort them so that the first one will be #1, and add a hyperlink back to the section heading that the endnote reference resides in. Most everything is working well except I can't do two things: 1) Add formatted text programmatically to the endnote text. Endnotes.Add doesn't allow a range (just text) and when I try to update the endnote after adding a temporary text string, the resulting endnote text is blank: Range = aDoc.Range(ref textStart, ref textEnd); aDoc.Endnotes[1].Range = findE; 2) Add the hyperlink back to the section heading. This is most likely due to my issue with the formatted text, but I have tried to work around it by using a Find and trying to find the Endnote Text, but that isn't working either. Are we not able to find Endnote Text programmatically? I tried a VBA macro as well and it didn't work.     - Value of a REF field via macro/vba inserted into save as filename Hi, I'm new at this macro / VBA (first post here) and this has been a pretty exciting journey so far. Using Word 2003 I am trying to write a couple macros to automate a few repetitive document functions. I looked at some books in the book store (which didn't cover the subject), have printed several good tutorials referenced frequently and prominent in google ranking (I'm sure you know the ones I found), searched quite a bit through the help, msdn, mvp sites, ... and have analyzed some related samples, but can't find this detail. Goal: With this macro I would like to automate and thus standardize the suggested file save as name. (showing the dialog to allow the user control over the destination; so not automatically saving the file without dialog ... at least not for the time being, a further step might be to suggest saving it with a modified save as path that includes a subfolder based on the name, but first things first) Background: I created a new template. By the way the title of the template is set to Note, Letter, Fax - which will be referenced as well. (this is just the first template of 3 - 4 I'm making). Via ASK fields it asks a few questions (Name, Number, ...) activated by an AutoNew macro. REF fields show the answers in the resulting document (document & header, extra macro piece added to make sure it updates the field results in the header). After finishing the document I would like to use a customized Save As dialog. The special save as ... Created a macro which - looks at the document properties title - grabs the current date and then succesfully displays a dialog as follows: Dim dlg As Dialog Set dlg = Dialogs(wdDialogFileSaveAs) With dlg .name = "_" & strDocumentType & strDate & ".doc" .show End With Now, before the underscore I would like to access the value of Name and Number; and thus suggest this name: .name = strName & strNumber & "_" & strDocumentType & strDate & ".doc" So, my questions is, how can I get the values of { REF Name } and { REF Number } into strName and strNumber? Note: With this file name idea I can ending up with very long file names, so I am using a shorthand date and using an abbreviation for the document type; done earlier in the macro. An additional question comes in if it is possible to maniuplate the strName and have the initials from {REF Name} rather than the full first name and last name? Or maybe it should be two ASK questions FirstName and LastName? And take the initial from both?     - A program to find and replace Hi, I am going to write 2 VBA programs to do find-and-replace, though I know that there is a built-in find-and-replace function in Word. The 1st program finds the word which I specify and is also in red. The program replaces them by the word that I enter. For example, the word "name" is in red and appears at different places in a Word document, I want to use the 1st program to find all of it and replace them by "John" one by one. The 2nd program finds all the words in red and the program replaces them by the word that I enter. For example, the words "name", "address" and "phone" are red in a document, and I want to use the 2nd program to find them and replace them by "John", "England" and "123456" respectively. I'm working on a program that involves chemical equations, and consequently I have defined a couple of useful classes: "ChemicalCompound," and "ChemicalEquation." The ChemicalEquation class has as one of its members an array of ChemicalCompound objects, which represent the reactant compounds in the equation. I would like to keep the actual array private (i.e. access restricted to the class) and use a Property Get to access the ChemicalCompound objects in the array. Is possible for the return value of a Property Get to be an object of a user-defined class?     - Create editable document with permanent fields in Word 2003 Hello all, I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to create templates that populate from a data source, are completely editable, yet also have some way of marking and retrieving text from the populated locations in the document. The obvious answer to this is to use either form fields or bookmarks, since they both contain ranges and they can both be referenced with an associated name property. And they do indeed work, but they are easy to unintentionally delete by the users, which makes later parsing and retrieval of text from said fields impossible. I ran across one interesting idea to get around this limitation, which is to assign each form field its own section, and then to set those sections to ProtectedForForms = True. This ALMOST worked - which is, of course, even more frustrating than total failure :). Unfortunately, Word can't have multiple section breaks - even continuous section breaks - in a single line, and a number of my templates need to have four or five fields in close proximity. Having line breaks between them would be unacceptable for many of the templates, particularly the legal documents. A similar limitation occurs with bookmarks, but there I can't both protect the bookmark and assure that it won't be typed over accidentally. If I protect them then they can't be manually edited, but if I don't it only takes one long select and over-type and they're gone. I had previously been using Document Property fields to populate the document using the Custom Document Properties, auto-updating them, then detaching the fields from their references to make them editable. The problem is that once that's been done, I can't programmatically retrieve information from those fields, which makes future data gathering impossible - or manual, which is essentially the same for me :) I came up with a little function to find and store the index locations of each field in the document for later reference if I ended up having to use a type of field that doesn't have a name property - like a Quote field, for example - but I always end up running into the protection issue. The only thing I can think of other than that is to have the field areas linked to button-type macros that activate on double-click, but it would be a huge pain to convert all of my templates to use such a system, and I really don't like the idea of implementing such a code- intensive task for every field in a document if it's at all possible to avoid it. If necessary, I'll just eschew my dreams of data retrieval and stick with the Document Property fields, but I'd *really* prefer not to. Surely this isn't such a wild concept - can anyone help?     - Question about TOC position and footer Automating a word report. the TOC can take the space of 1 to 3 pages long. I'm looking for the correct way to insert the TOC on page 3 of the report. When I build the report, I leave page 3 empty (sectionbreak in top of page) , set all the toc field in the following pages and once done, I return or goto page 3 and then add the TOC. The problem that I have is with the footer of pages containing the TOC. If the TOC has just one page, the footer is OK. If the TOC has 2 or more pages, the footer is not repeated.     - Overflow error 6 I have some complicated code that inserts a vertical bar in the left margin at the cursor location. The bar matches the point height of the font at the cursor location, or spans the selected range. I have to calculate the range start and end; and, to ensure that the bar is always at the same distance from the left margin, I also take into account the section margin lay out. I am not very confident of my process for populating the two arrays with the data needed for the callbacks. All the user needs to do is open the template and edit the table. Once that is done, then when the template loads the the compiler has to get to it. AutoExec is the only event that I know of that fires when a template is loaded. Is this correct and is this the best way? 2. a. I have not been able to isolate why, but when I put my Addin in the Word Startup Folder and start Word I always get an error message "Subscript out of range." b. If I remove the AddIn from the Startup folder and attempt to load the Add-In manually, I get a get the same message: "Subscript out of range." c. If I leave Word running, remove the AddIn, and load it a second time it loads and works perfectly without error. d. The error message never happens when I open the AddIn directly. I assume that this problem is caused by some sort of timing conflict with the AutoExec procedure and maybe I could correct it with a Do Events statement but I am not very familiar with those and I don't know how to proceed. At that point Word remembers his last used printer but he does not and he ends up "losing" his print jobs by sending them to the wrong printer.
