I have a "letterhead" document (not a template) which I
use to create letters by copying and pasting the body of
the letter onto it. With the exception of the letterhead
portion, it is blank until I copy/paste the body or
substance of the letter onto it. But when I do so, the
part that I copied requires alot of cleaning up:
incorrect font, messed up paragraphs, spacing, bold,
margins, etc. Can anyone help me so that when I copy onto
my letterhead, it will not require all this cleaning up?
Thank you very much for your assistance. (I tried to
create a template, but copying and pasting created the
same problem.)

Hi attymusic,

Save it as a template in your templates folder and create each new letter by
selecting New from the File menu and select the template as the basis of the
letter.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the

Hope this helps

format problems when cut/paste on letterhead doc by Caroline

Makes far more sense to create your letterhead as a
template.
If you have to copy/paste text from outside you may find
the formatting still thrown out if the styles/formatting
in the source is not the same as in the destination
document.
If you are using XP, in Tools Options Edit tab make
sure 'Show Paste Options button' is on.
Then when you paste you can select 'Keep Source
formatting' from the paste options button.

format problems when cut/paste on letterhead doc by attymusic

Thanks for your response. However, the problem would still
exist even if we could make the letterhead document a
template. The reason is: the letterhead is already a
template, it has names going down the left side of the
page (with the office name and logo on top). The names
down the left side of the page are in a textbox. The
textbox seems to be the problem. We need the names placed
down the left side of the page. But textbox is creating
problems with copying/pasting text onto the page. I guess
the question is: Is there another way to maintain the list
of names down the side of the page without putting them
into a textbox? We are baffled and frustrated every time
we copy and paste a letter onto the letterhead. So much
editing to do afterwards! Thank you for any assistance you
can give us. Beth

Hi Beth,

Why aren't the letters being created in a new document that is created by
selecting New from the File menu and then selecting the template as the
basis of the document to be created? That would be the normal way to do
things.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the

Hi Doug:
I took you advice and created a template of the
letterhead document so there are no textboxes. But when I
try to copy and paste the body of the letter, the left
side of the document, which contains the names of the
officers in the agency get all scrambled, - worse than
before. We just want to be able to keep the left side
stationery and be able to copy and paste the letter
portion in the document. Help! Thanks. Beth
