    - Find & copy macro--possible? I'm wondering if it's possible to create a macro that will search a word document for any foreign characters with diacritics, copy them, and export them to a new document? I don't want to remove the characters from where they are in the text--I just need to know WHICH characters are being used in a given text. In other words, I need to figure out a thorough way to search long documents and note any characters that have accents (acute or grave), breves, umlauts, macrons, etc. Then I need to be able to see a list of the results so that I know which diacritics are used.     - Reference to Template Project (Code) Hi, I've created a template, that when a user clicks a buton, the document merges with a record in a SQL db.     - Bookmarks in a template Hi- I have a Word97 template with 3 bookmarks. After I run a macro which does a MailMerge, the resulting document does not have the bookmarks. Why? All other text from the template is in the new document. How can the bookmarks also be "carried forth" into the created document? (I created the bookmarks by positioning the cursor where I wanted, and going to the Insert Tab, and then selecting Bookmark. I entered the bookmark name, and hit the Add button.)     - How to Obtain the Generated Text of a Style I would like to know if it is possible to get the "value" of a heading that Word is using programmatically. I will try to clarify my question with a demonstration. If I have a document and I set it to use a numbered heading style for its layout, I might have something that looks like: 1. Overview 2. Introduction 3. How to do it 101 3.1 Starting 3.2 Finding Help 4. Advanced Options In this case, the leading number and period are supplied by the style, and I simply type in the text (Overview, Introduction, etc.). When I parse this document in VBA, I can get the style names and the text, but I'm not sure how (if it is even possible) to get the characters Word is automatically generating (1., 2., etc.).     - Replacing Wordbasic.Call in Macros I have various macros that were originally written in Wordbasic. I have rewritten or converted most to VBA code but one particular piece of code won't seem to work in VBA so I must be doing something wrong. an instance is WordBasic.Call "somemacorname.ITUPrintPSToDisk", filename will work but If I drop the Wordbasic it will not. (filename is a variable containing a name of the file to be printed by the macro) This may be very basic but I can't seem to get it to work. ps I have got other Call commands to work but not when they refer to a subroutine in a macro as the one above does.     - Changing Styles of Bulleted Lists (Word 2000/Windows) Hello Again! I seem to be misunderstanding ActiveDocument.Lists and ranges and once again need some help. What I am trying to do is find every line in a document that has a bullet. I then want to look at the style used for each line with a bullet. (There should only be 5 styles ever used). Based on the style used, I want to assign a different style. However, with the code I have, it is changing all of the lines between the first bullet list and the last bullet list in the document. So I'm thinking I'm close, I'm just not defining my ranges correctly. But I'm not sure what I need to change. As always, any help will be greatly appreciated!     - Cannot open Access database on CD In my Word VBA application I would like to open an Access Database on a CD, but get an error message telling me that it cannot be opened because it is "either locked by another user or you need permission to read it". However, none of these conditions are fulfilled as far as I undestand. If I copy the database to the hard disk it works as expected.     - VBE Opens When Unlocking Computer Word 2000 Each time I leave my computer, I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and lock the machine. When I unlock the machine the VBE opens and is devoid of toolbars and menus. If I close the VBE and open it again, the toolbars and menus are displayed. This does not appear to be related to any specific document, as it happens with every document I've tested, and without regard to whether or not the document contains macros or is based on a custom template. My employer runs Novell 6.5 on the network, so the login screen indicates Novell Client for Windows. This happens with Excel as well, so my suspicion is that this is a Novell problem.     - Insert Text Left of Bulleted Style Hey Gang, I am trying to enter some text against the left hand side margin on lines that use either bulleted or numbered styles. I couldn't figure a way to enter it simply by typing so I tried inserting a text box of the necessary size to hold the letters "[C]". However the old code that I am working from (WordBasic) seems to want to move the box up slightly and not on the same line as the paragraph I want it on. Does anyone know of a way to place text to the left of a bulleted or numbered style or have some code that works. What I had on a previous template was a text box converted to a frame that actually put it in the left hand margin (had a 2" margin to simulate a two-column document). That one worked fine I guess because there was enough room from the textbox and the actual text. This one however doesn't seem to like it on the same line. Any solutions out there? I would be happy to post the code I was using if that would help. By the way, using Word XP.     - Build a better mousetrap First off - my thanks to Jonathan West and Charles Kenyon for their reply to my earlier question. Now this may be a hard one because it's objective... I work in an extremely "form" dominated environment. Many of the forms I am currently working on are what I call "form sets", they are actually a single file comprised of multiple/different forms. The users want to be able to create multiple pages between each of the individual forms....this I can do but the results are not always reliable. Doing this in a word document is difficult enough without adding section protection to the equation, however, Word has no feature which allows you to "Append" a "template" between pages or at the end of the file. Is there another way to create this document, either thru links or whatever, that will give the continuity of each form without placing each one in the same file???     - Document out of focus I tried this question in the general section, but someone suggested to put it here. My problem is the following: I have several templates, from which users can choose. On opening the document, based on the template(e.g. document10) a UserForm pops up. When clicking OK the results are put in the form on the created document10. This works fine the first time for every template, but the second time a new document11 is indeed opened, but the focus is set to the first document10 (of the same template), thus trying to fill in an already filled in document.     - Text replacing based on a true condition - Part II Hi, I have a document running to 800 pages or so, which has been produced by another software (WinCross - A CROSS-TABULATION Software) and its output was saved in *.Rtf format. The another software itself generates a) Table of contents --TOC b) Actual Write-up after TOC c) page numbers - on top and bottom of each page in b) (The first page after TOC would have -- Page 1 -- on top right and bottom middle of each page and the subsequent pages would have increasing page numbers) Basically, the other software makes a), b) and c) as MAIN STORY. That is page numbers which are there on each page after Table of contents are part of the Main Story itself. Due to some bug in Wincross we are producing outputs in batches and then copy pasting them. That is b) is copied from each individual batch and pasted one below the other to produce a consolidated/ global b). Due to copy paste page numbers were wrong in the Global/Consolidated b). I got a macro from H Weber recently which could realign the page numbers in b). Basically this was a Find/replace text, where the text to find was -- .Text = "Page [0-9]{1,2}" -- and text to replace was -- .Replacement.Text = "Page " & lTmp - 30 , where lTmp is the real word page number. We are using the number 30 here because table of contents was for 30 pages. Now, I seek a macro for correcting the page numbers which are displayed WITHIN the TOCs. Since, after running H Weber's macro, b) would be perfectly alright, so I want page numbers within TOC to be displaying same page numbers as the respective page numbers in b). Im pasting part of the first Page of TOC. Page 1.......TABLE 1-A SCREENER Page 45.......TABLE 1-B QUOTA GROUPS Page 64.......TABLE 1-C REFORMULATED COMBINED QUOTA GROUPS Page 73.......TABLE 1 COMBINED QUOTA GROUPS So,What I want is to put a for loop which would search starting from first Real page of word till the end of TOC. Then within each page of TOC it searches for the string -- .text = "Page [0-9]{1,2,3}....." -- And then the cursor goes to end of that and then reads the text of the remaining sentence. Like in the above case -- Page 64.....-- would be searched and the text of the remaining sentence would be -- TABLE 1-C --. Now, I want to perform a search on text -- Table 1-C -- within b) part which is the part of document after TOC. The Real word page number of the first instance of the text would be copied and then it would replace -- Page 64.....-- with --- Page ?? - 30 -- where ?? is the real page number where -- Table 1-C -- was found within b).     - Packaging and Deploying a Word 2000 Project I maintain a rather complex Word 2000 project comprising of one global template and two templates. It is distributed around my organisation for installation on Windows 2000 laptops with particularly strong security policies I have written my own custom setup macros to install these files but all too often these fail because the user doesn't have the permissions required to install files in the "Program Files" folder. Manual installations are perfectly possible - but not ideal. Does anyone know of an off-the-shelf solution like Wise or InstallShield that is capable of installing *.dot files, deleting old files, detecting the location of the Word Startup folder and writing/editing registry entries. I have heard of the Office 2000 Package and Deployment Wizard but don't want to risk buying Office 2000 Developer unless I know it will work.     - VBA textboxes Hi I am working on a Word 2003 application in which I populate the document with data that I retrieve from a database. The number of pages within the document depends on the amount of records returned from querying the database. I have set up an auto text entry that contains all of the fields (textboxes) for each record. On startup I insert the autotext entries so that the document displays the correct number of pages to display detail for all the selected records. I now need to populate textboxes on the various pages in the doc. I know the names each textbox (e.g. txtAddress, txtAddress1 for the next page, etc.) but I don't know how I can set the .text property of each textbox in code because only the textboxes on the first page will be available at design time.     - Find & Replace not working!! I need pretty bad help: The usual Find and Replace under the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor does not work at all!! Nothing fancy, I just click on Edit - Find and type some character, push enter and nothing happens. It works fine with all other applications including Word. It simply does not work with the VB editor in Word. Here's what I have tried: a) Removed Normal.dot (just so it is related in some weird way) b) Uninstalled Office and installed it again c) Restarting the comp / scandisk (again, whatever that'll remotely make it work) It's very annoying to go through a million modules without the Find thing working!! I have a rather long document that has many fields that are filled in by a mailmerge. (MERGEFIELDs and DOCVARIABLEs gotten from several user forms, where the user fills in OptionBoxs, CheckBoxs and TextBoxes). MailMerge will generate the entire document, but if a certain question is not answered, I want to delete some pages. If I can set up bookmarks around these pages, can a macro be automatically run, and if the DOCVARIABLE is "Y", then delete from BookmarkA to BookmarkB? I'm wondering if it's possible to create a macro that will renumber all the occurrances of superscipt consecutively--even if they're not using the endnote or footnote function? The reason for the last part is that I currently use a macro that unembeds the notes and changes the note numbers to superscript. This way I can move or renumber a note manually without deleting the corresponding text of the note. However, it would be a great help if I could set up a macro that would, after I'm finishing editing, go through the document and renumber all the notes consecutively in case there's one that was missing, out-of-sequence, etc. Is this even feasible? It temporarily Inserts Fullname of the active document into the document and makes that string an AutoText entry called MyDocName, which is used later by another macro to reactivate this document from another document. This enables me to return instantly to this document without having to open the Window menu or scroll through the open documents. But I wonder if there is a more efficient way of doing it, so that the active document's FullName doesn't actually have to be inserted into the document as a range, but rather the FullName becomes an AutoText entry in one step.     - Word 2003 customised toolbar I have a template which has an attached toolbar. When a document is first created from the template, some of the toolbar buttons are enabled and some are not. When the buttons are used, a routine (UpDateToolbars) is called which checks various conditions and enables or disables buttons according to those conditions. This works perfectly in Word 97 and Word XP. In Word 2003, after the call to UpDateToolbars all of the buttons appear as if they were disabled (greyed out) except occasionally when they all appear as if they were enabled. The buttons are "repainted" correctly if the cursor is swept over them. Forcing a screen refresh at the end of the UpDateToolBars procedure does not correct this. Any suggestions gratefully received. That is, the EXAMINATION IN CHIEF will have to be re-set in the header until the witness is cross-examined etc. etc. The document will continue to proceed in the same manner as potentially hundreds (although that's probably excessive) of witnesses could testify.     - Legacy Access2/VB4 app merge errors with Word 11 I have a network where all of the client machines were recently replaced and are now running XP Pro SP2. Office 2003 is also on the new machines. The legacy application was written in VB 4 and I have no source code available. The Access version is 2.0. The application works as expected and as it did before the upgrade with the exception of Microsoft Word merging capabilities. The application creates a proper ".dat" merge document but is unable to do the link. The .dat file contains a properly generated header with the field names tab separated and the data from the requested record (by entering the keycode value in a message box) tab deliminted as well. The data is what it should contain. The setup settings are properly directing the application to the correct directory path and winword.exe file name. Word does not open and three errors occur in succession according to the messages that appear: In the title bar of the message box: "Merge Error (Word) #1056 and in the center of the message box: "Not a valid filename." Clicking on the OK command button brings up another error message box with the title bar showing "31031 (0)" and the text in the message box being "Invalid Source for link" Clicking in the OK command button brings up another error message box with the title bar showing "31004(0)" and the text in the message box being "No object." The document is a valid document and the path is correct. I have written a workaround macro in VBA of Word to allow them, after responding OK to the three messages in the legacy Access app, to press Alt-M in an open, no-document Word application which presents them with the directory containing the master merge document and containing the newly created data source .dat file containing the header and record data as requested in the legacy app. After selection of the requested file, I test the file name of the .doc file and create a DataSourceFileName for .dat files over 8.3 and then do the merge of the document to a new file with the .dat file created and given as the source for the master document. This process proceedes without a problem. I suspect that there may be some ODBC connectivity problems between the legacy apps that don't know OLE and that are looking for another type of data source other than ".dat" files. This was the old way of providing a data source from which to merge via ODBC (to fake it out) and the older DDE application connectivity. I do not have the old app source code, the developer are not at all interested in updating to anything later than Access 97 (believing that Bill Gates is out to destroy them <bg>. Is there anything I can do, other than writing a new application, to allow the users to merge with this old application to Word v. 11? I have no problem accessing the tables via a DSN-less SQLConnect() statement but the record comes through some 24 steps in a "Logic" table in a different database than the actual data. I have been doing database programming for 17 years but have little, brief experience with Access but quite a bit with VBA, Visual FoxPro, SQL, and C. It has been suggested that I write a dummy application in VB6 to impersonate Word 6 and receive the file names passed and then use those and call Word 11 from this dummy app, passing the merge file and data source file names to Word 11 on startup. I don't know how I'd go about "impersonating Word 6" and create this "DDE sink" that's been suggested. Any suggestions for any approach would be greatly appreciated?
