    - Lists->Text and Weird Space I'm converting lists to text and am running into a weird problem where SOMETIMES a space (spacelike?) character appears. The goal of my program is to take an AutoNumbered list like: 1. The first item 2. The second item and turn it into plain text that looks like: <ListItem>1.\tThe first item <ListItem>2.\tThe second item The code I have below does that absolutely fine. BUT, if you change the tag (just change both instances of "<ListItem>" to something like "ListItem:" then some weird space/not-space (it seems to be character 32, but behaves..oddly) appears between the colon and the item number. It occurs WHEN pasting..I just don't get it, it's very weird.     - How to print document automatically I want to print all documents in one directory. I prefer VB to launch word application, and open each document. Then I use document.printout. My question is the process will suspend if a doc has marcos or password in it, because nobody will response the popup dialog.     - Finding RTF docs based on user criteria I was wondering if there is a way to search through a file of RTF docs based on user criteria (from an Access form). There are hundreds of these RTF docs currently saved, but they are all in one folder. As an example, if the user picks "rr00f" as filter criteria, I would then look through every doc in the folder to find the ones that have that exact text anywhere in the body of the doc and then return each file name. Of course, the users will be picking many different values to filter by, so the actual number of docs that have their combination of values would be small. What do you think? Is this viable?     - Cycling through the Revisions collection In Word 2000, I have a subroutine to compare two documents and after comparing them, cycle through the collection and print any page with revisions. The trouble is it seems to get hung up on certain revisions when stepping through the collection and Word stops responding. Debug.Print statements show it gets hung up when the code tries to get the page number of a particular revision.     - despite certificate message '... contains macros ...' Hi NG, I developed some VBA macros that run with Word 97, 2000 and 2002. They are located in the startup folder as .dot files. All macros contain a signature (certificate) to avoid problems at the customers site. Normally the customer trusts my certificate, sets the corresponding options and everything is working fine, independant of the security options. Now there is a customer with correctly adjusted options, but at each startup of word the message '... contains macros. Macros can contain virusses ...' appears (translated from German). He has to acknowledge this by clicking on the 'Activate macros' button. With another customer of him exactly the same problem occurs. He installed his computers, what makes me think that it has something to do with an option that prevents the execution of this macro. But which? Security options: Security level High or Medium (doesn't matter) Trustworthy source registered (my certificate) Trust all installed add ins and templates marked Trust access to vb project marked Translated from German, the english terms may sound different. With exactly the same options it's running fine with other customers. All files double checked. Does anybody have an idea? I can't expect the customer to switch to low security level.     - Text box control in Word form Hello, I have a form in a Word template with a Userform. I want to display some information, which, when it is long, I want the user to be able to scroll and see. I dont want the user to be able to change it. Which is the control to be used? I tried textbox control, but if I set the Enable to Yes, user can edit. If I set it to No, it wont display scroll bars and he cannot see the complete information. I dont want to increase the size and make it multi line, it wont look nice on the form. Thanks in advance. Folks, I am trying to determine programmatically the length (in inches, pixels or any distance measure) of a given text selection (or line). For example: THE QUICK BROWN FOX. . when typed in capitalized letters takes more screen space than. the quick brown fox . when typed in lower caps. Also, the bold version of it the quick brown fox .takes a little more screen space than the non-bold version.. The above is also true for text strings containing different characters.     - Invoking Word from Outlook: Autoexec Doesn't Exec When I invoke Word from Outlook, the AutoExec:Main module seems not to run (certain menu bars created by the AutoExec:Main module are not created. I planted a test <MsgBox "The Autoexec macro has run"> inside the AutoExec:Main procedure to test the theory and when I open Word via Outlook, it does not appear. Is this on purpose? Is there any way to cause the autoexec procedure to run when Word loads via Outlook? Other routines depend upon the stuff that AutoExec sets up. I get a runtime errors when I try to run other macros inside this scantily adorned version of Word. I am working on a "how-to" manual and would like each page to reflect the exact date that page was last changed. For example if the manual is 90 pages, and page 7 was last changed on March 23, 2002, and page 81 was last updated on January 16, 2001, is there a way to have each page show that information (and update the date automatically).     - Table of Contents Creation Hello, I'm trying to make a macro create a TOC, but I do not want that TOC to use the normal Headings(Heading 1, through Heading 9). Instead, I wish the TOC to use a particular heading of my creation(It's called TOC). Creating the TOC by hand is quite simple in word, and I can deselct the Heading 1 through Heading 9, and have word only use my created "TOC" heading, however, getting the macro to do it isn't working.     - Setting and retaining a range Word2000 I would like to perform a search-replace within a selected range of text (as opposed to the whole document) and perform the same search repeatedly (within the original range) until the target text-combination no longer exists. (Specifically, "^p^p^p" to "^p^p", i.e., three contiguous paragraph marks to two.) I can't figure out how to retain the original selection (of course, the "original" selection changes internally with each pass of the search-replace). If you define a range as being the original selection, that named range no longer refers to the original selection (as altered) once the search-replace routine is run through the first pass. I tried defining the range by setting a bookmark at the beginning and one at the end of the original selection, but the search-replace routine destroys the end bookmark, so the orginally defined range can no longer be selected. Anyway, is there a foolproof way of defining the beginning and the end of the original selection, so the range can be reselected and the search-replace routine run till exhaustion? Thanks very much. When the macro goes to create a new file using that template, it prompts for a password, or to click the read only button.     - Hiding text from a macro I've written a macro which visits each paragraph in a table cell and hides it or unhides it depending on its style. The macro works correctly, but is very slow. Each iteration of the per-paragraph loop appears to take a large fraction of the second, and the fractions add up. I'm trying to be rewrite the macro to eliminate the per-paragraph loop. One step in the rewritten macro is to hide or unhide the entire text of the cell. It isn't working. I can set the text's Font.Hidden property, but it has no effect. That is, VBA neither changes the text's Hidden property nor changes the contents of the window. (Nor does it gives me an error.) Here's an extract of the code: Dim msgRange As Range ' . . .     - Need help getting entries from ToC I have some difficulties trying to extract entries form a Table of Contents in a Word document. What I want is, basically, to retrieve for each entry in a ToC the name (i.e. the text) of the entry and the point it's referring to (i.e. the name of the hidden bookmark). My first idea was to use the Paragraphs collection on the range of the ToC; but then I'm faced with the problem that, while it works quite well for all Paragraphs except the very first and very last, for both of the latter the Fields collection contains *all* the fields of the entire ToC, leading to a number of special case branches, which rely on a number of assumptions I made about the structure of the data in the collections in question. Consequently, I'm not 100% sure my solution is going to be water-proof in all cases; all in all I'm wondering (or rather hoping) that there is a simpler, more elegant and most of all more reliable method for accomplishing what I'm trying to do.     - Formating Text in Textframes I am able to use the for each - next method to run through textframes, and if a frame with a width greater than 200 is encountered I am able to set the left and right indentations. When I runs the line Set WordObj = Nothing it takes from 1 minut up to 10 minutes to get freed from memory.     - Blank line suppress in Word Automation I have code that merges access xp data into word templates by setting the values of Word document custom properties. The word templates have fields referencing the name of the custom properties For address info in the access db I have two possible field for address. Typically both have records for say people in an apartment, but for home address typically one, the second field, is null.     - Input box. I have an input box that I am using in a macro that requires the user to input an age between 18 and 65. I made it so they could only input ages in that range by using a loop with <>. And that works fine. If they input 15, it just loops. However, if they accidently try to input anything but a number (i.e. the letter a) they get a mismatch error. Is there some way for me to write code that will allow them to input ONLY numbers. I'm hoping for something similar to what I've done already (just to loop until they put in a number between 18 - 65.) Thanks for looking at this.     - Project organizer bug with user forms BUG REPORT BUG: There is a bug in the Word 2000 Project Organizer (accessed by opening the templates and add-ins window, clicking "Organizer", and clicking the "Macro Project Items" tab) that causes problems when user forms are transferred between an external template and the Normal template. ERROR MESSAGE: If the user form was transferred to the Normal template with the project organizer, when the user form is run, the error message "Run-time error '5981': Could not open macro storage." is displayed. ERROR OCCURRENCE: Specifically, I received this error when I tried to run the Find Symbol dialog box, which was provided in the sample macros supplied by Microsoft (Macros9.dot). I had transferred this user form and the subroutine that loaded it using the project organizer, as suggested in the Macros9.dot file. When I received this error message, I first tried retransferring the user form and subroutine. This did not change anything, so I tested the code subroutine by subroutine to pinpoint the location of errors. I found that certain bookmark instructions were causing errors, although there were no errors when I ran the user form from the external template. SOLUTION: I opened the template, and then in the Visual Basic Editor I opened the project explorer. I dragged both the user form and the subroutine that loaded it from the Macros9.dot template to the Normal template. The Find Symbol user form ran fine after this. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The project organizer may have messed up some of the code of the user form when transferring it, or not transferred some information needed to run it.     - Cannot change link to an excel source file in my word doc I am trying to use sourcefullname to change the path and name of an excel file that is linked throughout my word doc. Everything I can find tells me that sourcefullname is a read/write string, but I cannot get the change to take. It goes through the motions, but when I check the source files in the Links window, it is still referencing the old file. I have written my own macro using sourcefilename and used a version from the ms web site (modified for word/excel vs. powerpoint/excel), neither one works. In fact, both macros often crash Word about 3/4 of the way through the process. (There are 30+ links that have to be changed.) If I step through the macro it doesn't crash. Any suggestions? Selection.Find.Execute Windwows(<former window>).Activate (write the page number of the found string into the first document) all embedded within a loop Now, since the method Selection.Find... must be used in both the documents, the loop exit condition Until Selection.Find.Found = False does not work in the first document, neither the .Find.Execute boolean. How can the Selection.Find.Found Property be kept for one document, although I utilize a Selection.Find method also in the second? By moving the search in the second to a certain subroutine? Having problems using the ASK field to insert one user
prompted answer into both the body of my document as well
as the header of all but the first page header. I created
an AutoNew macro to generate the ASK question but once a
user presses the OK button, only the Bookmark in the body
of my doc receives the AutoNew update. I have tried to
update my header while recording my Macro, but to no
avail...??? Anyone?
