    - Want to get rid of the Word warning dialogue I'm working on a small VB-Word automation program which generates and prints a Word Document. The only problem that I face is that Word fires a warning dialogue stating that the borders of the document are beyond the printable regions. Each time I need to click 'OK' within this window and the printing is done without any problem. Since the warning dialogue pops up with each document this kills my automation.     - Capital letter after a number then full stop Can anyone hlep with this unusual query please. I want every time i type a number followed by a full stop then a space for the next letter to be a capital letter i.e. the start of a new sentence. It seems Word is seeing the full stop as a decimal and not capitalising after it like it would do if the numbers were letters. Is there a simple macro that i can run to correct this? Any ideas??? In order for the user to see what they were spellchecking in context, your macro could tile the form document and the "spellcheck window". But this workaround would be clunky. b) Write your own spellcheck dialog (using a UserForm). "Both the above solutions are beyond the scope of this site..." Both solutions are a bit beyond the scope of my VBA coding abilities and I am not able to put all my form fields (of which there are many) into table cells.     - add menu item / commandbar at startup Hi there, I have read a lot of posts on this subject so far and have not been able to get quite the answer I am looking for. Basically I am trying to get a menu item to load when word starts up. Now I have created a global template and placed it in my startup folder and have created the relevant code under Document_New to create the menu items / commandbar, which works fine. The problem I have is that when you load up word for the first time the menu item doesn't appear. You have to select new document before the menu item appears. After which point it stays put which is what I am after. Now I know it may sound picky but is there a way to skip this first step, i.e. have the menu item appear when word starts?     - Word Automation Paste Issue hi, i have an issue with pasteing an image out of a text box back onto a word document and repositioning it on the document so i can select the picture as a shape for copying into powerpoint. every time i paste the copied image it overwrites the whole document. any help would be appreciated.     - Unprotecting and Protecting Document via mouse click on active pag I have a two page template in which the first page contains nothing but tables and the second and every page there after contains a repeating header and footer (but not shown on the first page). I have the concept of document protection and have created a bookmark called bmDocNarrative and inserted it on Page 2 where I want the user to start typing. When the template is opened into a document, it is protected and the user fills in the fields based on Form Fields. When the user tabs out of the last form field on Page 1, there is an on exit macro which unprotects the document and goes to the said bookmark so the user can start typing the narrative. My question is if the user arrows or mouse clicks their way back to page one, all of the tables are now â??unlockedâ?? because the document is unprotected. What would some simple code be to force the document back into protection mode while Page 1 is active and to unlock it if the user tries to click back into the text (or page 2 or any other page than page 1)?     - Jumping Cursor I created a 12 page protected form with many tables. Each table has text form fields and nested tables. At the top of each page, the employee name, date and location are supposed to be entered. So, I created a table on each page with one row that serves as the header. This â??header tableâ?? has six columns of which 3 contain form fields. The other three just contain labels. This row is on each of the 12 pages. Once the user types in the required information and presses the tab key, the information fills down to each of the remaining 11 pages. To move between the form fields on each page and between pages, the user uses the tab key. However, when the users tabs from one page to the next , the cursor jumps to the header field on page one then returns to the correct field on whatever page he should be. On the same page the tab key works as it should. Even weirder, when I mouse-click on the header table cells on any page other than the first, the cursor jumps to the top of the document and stays there. How can I stop this? I used the following code for the fill downs for the three fill-in fields, I just changed the field name. In the form-field options, I used these as on-exit macros.     - printing and exiting from macro first let me say i know extremely little about programming. i have made a macro in access that launches a mail merge document in word. after running the macro, the output is printed and then word is to close the file and exit back to access. here are my problems. 1. when i run the macro in word (run to printer) the printer dialogue box shows up so i have to pick the printer to print to. 2. if i run the word macro to a new document and print, i get the dialogue box that wants to know if i want to save the new file. 3. i then get an error message telling me that word is still printing and cannot exit (the printing has already ended when i get this message.) needless to say that having to deal with these issues makes automating my process very difficult. if anyone out there know how do deal with these please advise. much apprecaited.     - Control Toolbox Controls in Documents I am stumgling in the dark trying learn something to help a poster. I have a Word document with some controls entered in the document using the Control Toolbox. Specifically I have some options buttons named Pass1 through Pass4. I can run Sub Test1() to return the caption of Pass1. I can further specifically (and I don't know if it is right or not) declare the variable as a MSForms.OptionsButton and get the result using Sub Test2(). What I can't figure out is how to cycle through each control in the document and determine the caption. It seems that there is no: For each Ct in Me.Controls or Me.MSForms.OptionButtons or Me.Anything that will work. Can anyone help or confirm the quest is hopeless. Thanks.     - Install project HI all, I have just spend 2 hours scanning the NG for info on this. A lot of people seem to praise InnoSetup. So I downloaded it and read the FAQ and some script examples. The main problem I see is that these software are designed to install executable files in (normally) the "Program Files" folder and also provide an uninstall mechanism, both of which are unnecessary when installing templates. I cannot figure out how to tell it to install my templates in the current user Workgroup Templates location (read from the registry?) and to make sure that some of the templates stay hidden once they are installed. (One template is used to invoke the other, and another one is not a template but a database, so they need to be hidden.). I need to make a deployment package for some very inept users who cannot be trusted to follow installation instructions. While I could create a Word file with autoexecuting code that would act as an installation mechanism (this would still require distributing 4 documents instead of one single installation package), it thought I might try to use a "real" install tool so as to look more professional. I also looked at VS 2003, it seemed way too complicated for such a simple install.     - Display status bar message from template in startup folder I have created a template in my Word Startup folder that allows me to remap the numpad decimal point to a comma (courtesy of the thread at http://tinyurl.com/ogwsp). I have also created toolbar buttons to assign and unassign on demand rather than on startup. There is a part of the code in this module to put a message on the status bar to notify the user that the numpad decimal has been remapped. This works when I have the template open, but does not seem to work when I have another document open. Also, I'm assuming i do not need the ThisDocument.Saved = True line in there for it to work, but I threw it in anyway since it was there. I'd like to get rid of it if I can.     - Import data from access into a table Ok i would like to import data from an access database table into a table in a microsoft word file. The table is already created and i would to just insert the data into that table. Here is the tricky part: each record should have a new table. The table created is a template for how all the tables should look. Is there a way to to have it so that a new table is copied from the template and the data is inserted into it. Or will i have to create a table for each record on my own. I was given some sample code to use with it and would like to know if it is correct, and also some tips to go about using it. Currently I use FinePrint pdfFactory to convert .doc files to PDF, but it is implemented as "virtual printer" driver. http://www.fineprint.com/ Similar solution is free PDFCreator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDFCreator Is there an add-in that enables to save Word files as PDF for older versions of Word (2000/XP/2003), that does not rely on printer driver?     - Word 2003 - Automating Letter Template I have a letter template, complete with fillin fields for name/address, subject, salutation etc which all works fine. When it comes to completing the body of the letter, I'd prefer NOT to use a fillin field, but to perhaps automatically move the cursor to the correct point once all fillin fields have been completed.     - Changing font for unicode characters Hi, I had a problem in MS Word that started off from the Equation Editor. Somehow some of my definitions for font styles seemed to be reset and I (apparently) mistakenly thought that I had set Palatino Linotype as the font for _everything_, but actually I discovered that I only get correct rendering if "Symbol" is set to the Symbol font. Otherwise minus sign (or "en dash"), "identical to" and other characters come out 'wrong'. You can play around with this if you're interested, but it's more by way of background to my actual question. I wondered why the "identical to" character (Unicode 2261 [HEX]) wasn't rendering correctly in Equation Editor with "Symbol" is set to the Palatino Linotype font. I decided to investigate the rendering of the font in the body of the document in a variety of fonts ...in fact, _every_ installed font. Therefore I created and ran the following macro: Sub macro2() For Each afont In FontNames Selection.Font.Name = afont Selection.InsertAfter "2261" Selection.ToggleCharacterCode Selection.InsertAfter " " & afont & vbCr Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdStory Next afont End Sub This should run fine for you provided your security settings are apropriately configured. It is not convenient to reproduce the output, as it spans several pages, but I found that the results were not as expected. For example, for what should have been Palatino Linotype, the "identical to" character was rendered in Arial Unicode MS. As I watched the Selection.Font as the code was stepped through, I noticed that discrepancies arose between Selection.Font.Name Selection.Font.NameAscii Selection.Font.NameBi Selection.Font.NameFarEast and Selection.Font.Name.Other Is this an application 'feature', a known MS bug, an unknown MS bug, or is _my_ code buggy? The problem is that each user has to change their security setting from High to Medium to run the template.     - Approval VBA Macro We have documents that need to go through a formal approval process. Without getting into workflow, etc..., I just need a simple macro that will grab the currently logged on userid along with the date/time stamp. I'm a novice vba user and have done some vba stuff in Excel. Actually, I was able to do this in Excel by creating a control box and when the user clicked either Yes or No, their username and the date/time stamp appeared next to the check box. Oh, in Excel I have two checkboxes, one for yes and one for no. If they change their mind and uncheck the box then their username and date/time disappear. I need this same functionality in Word as well as to have these "approval" fields locked after it is accepted or rejected (for auditing purposes). I have found some Word code but it makes no sense to me because unlike Excel there are no cell, sheet, etc... references. I would appreciate any help I can get on this. Thanks!     - Trying to copy formatted text _without_ Style? I get documents with a mish-mash of styles and formatting applied directly to the text. I am wondering if there is some way I could copy all of the text and any direct formatting over into a new doc based on my own template, but not any styles. I tried FormattedText in VBA, but the style came into the new document with the text - so did Edit>>Paste Special>>RTF. I'm beginning to think I would need to crawl through every word of every paragraph, capture any formatting applied in an array, paste the text over as unformatted, then read the paragraph word by word and apply any formatting in the array.     - OCX Form Field Collection Form fields inserted into a document from the Forms toolbar can be accessed by ActiveDocument.FormFields("formfieldname"). This does not work for fields inserted into the same document from the Control Toolbox. In a Userform, you can use the Controls collection but I can't figure out how to access the fields inserted from the Controls Toolbox. I want to write a construct like: For each ctl in Controls...     - Problem with FormattedText Doing a mailmerge from Excel with Word automation. I am altering a document and then doing SaveAs. This runs in a loop and after doing SaveAs I need the original document to do the same again. Rather than closing and reopening this document I prefer to keep the text + formatting in a range variable and putting that back. Only reason for this is that is quicker. The document opens fine but I need to force open a User Form (UserForm1) as soon as the template opens. Additionally, if I run the template from my local machine I can get the User Form to open via the below code.     - Printing Forms from Macros I have created some protected forms for users but I also have a customized printing menu. This enables the users to print to different paper trays (we have several) easily without having to go CTRl P change the paper type and remember which tray is which each time. My printing menu lists the paper trays by type. How can I get the Printing macros to print the protected forms. If I try at the moment I get Run-time Error 4605. Hi all, I noticed that their are some solutions for VB.NET to connect to an Oracle Database without having an Oracle client on your PC (for eample Core Lab's OraDirect .Net Dataprovider). Installing and maintainig Oracle clients is considered to be a pain (various Database versions require different clients) and is avoided by using more and more web based applications from Oracle. Only for Word VBA stuff I need an oracle client to be present on all machines. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this from VBA as I would love to get rid of the Oracle client.     - Adding watermark to every page Hi all, I have a bit of a panic on the go here and would like to ask for assistance. Can anyone suggest how I could programmatically (using VBA) add a watermark to every page in every section in a 10 to 20 page word doc? I want to add the word "COPY". I thought maybe I could add a specific sized textbox with hidden borders, containing COPY in large pale grey font colour (maybe running vertically in the textbox). Then set the textbox to appear behind the normal text. How on earth I would go about that, I dont have the faintest idea. Anyone prepared to offer help or suggest an alternative method?     - Header/Footer not protected in form Hello, I have a document template protected for forms. When the user creates a new document based on the template, they can click on the header. This switches them from page layout view to normal view and creates a header pane at the bottom of the document to allow the user to edit the header. This is not what I want. I don't want the users to be able to touch the header in any way. The reason I need a header is that the form fields are in table rows and can expand, causing the document to end up with more pages than the template it was based on. Any help would be appreciated. If the user chooses the option labelled All (which I would do when I am creating this manual) I want to show all styles, with any style containing the word 'Agency' in its name showing as bright green text and any style with ProgramOffice showing as red. I have a one page form full of tables (Page 1) and the narrative begins on Page 2. There is a header and footer on page 2 and subsequent pages (but not on page 1). The header and footer have tables and I need to be able to bookmark the tables somehow and copy certain data from page 1 to this header and footer. As I see it, there are two ways to do it: #1 Use a VBA â??prompt boxâ?? (UserForm) for the data to be captured and force the data into the header for footer as well as certain fields on Page 1. OR #2 Have a macro run on a Text Form Field "EXIT" which automatically COPIES and PASTES data from Page 1 to the header & footer on Page 2 I have tried where â??tblLastFirstMiddleâ?? is the Form Text Field / Bookmark and vLastFirstMiddle is the text box control on VBA UserForm. Please help, I have script to force the current document to be saved using the ThisDocument.SaveAs method. After I invoke the SaveAs, the "Name" of the document changes from whatever it was to the path name I give in the "SaveAs" call.     - RegEx Range.Text object corrupting embedded footnotes I have a macro which processes text using Regular Expressions (to find run-in heads in paragraphs). It seems that regular expressions will only work on the Range.Text object and not Range.FormattedText. I thought I had most of the kinks worked out of this but found a new wrinkle yesterday. It seems that, if the text of a paragraph is altered by a RegEx, then the embedded footnotes in that paragraph are broken. I have a sense that this is because the proper information isn't be passed back to the document by the Range.Text object when a replacement is made (duh). Before I sit down and write a macro that cuts out the embedded footnotes and replaces them with a marker before the RegEx is run and then reverses the replacement after the RegEx is run, I thought I would check with the experts and see if there are any better (and easier) approaches out there. I have tried replacing the RegEx searches with S/R using Word's wildcard search options but can't achieve the desired search complexity with them. I always run into the "expression is to complex" error. As a side question, are the limitations of Word's Wildcard Search listed anywhere. The one major one I've encountered is the limitation to 7 groups instead of the regular 9. There seem to be others but I can't recall them right now. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated. Basically, you will need to convert the TIFF into an editable format (JPG,
BMP, etc.) and then use PhotoShop or some other software.

Word would be my last choice for handling TIFF's.

By the way, what has your question got to do with VBA programming in Word?
