    - highlight macro word 2003 Basically I'm trying to create a macro that finds (ctrl-f) certain words throughout the entire document and highlight them different colors. The macro records fine but when I run it it does 1 of 3 things. 1st it may not highlight any words even if they are present in the search criteria. 2nd it may highlight the entire document and lastly it may find the first word and highlight only it. I don't currently have any virus's and never had on this system. Besides I tested this on another system using word 2003 with the same result and I didn't use the macro I created, I started fresh. Any idea's or suggestions would be appreciated. This is a daily task of about 20 pages and up to 12 different words so any help would be wonderful.     - Automating Word via Excel Having a dilemma here trying to add some text to an existing Word document. I can use a bookmark and get my text into the document with a Dim wordRange As Object wordRange.InsertAfter The problem with the above is that it "inserts" as opposed to "overwrite" and shifts all my other text and lines. I've tried setting .Overtype to True and still no luck. So my next adventure was to create a textbox via the controls toolbox positioned where I needed it and populate it from Excel but I can't determine how to access the textbox from Excel.     - Cursor position in textbox Is there a way to tell where the cursor is located in a textbox at any given moment? I specifically need to know where the cursor is located in the sentence the user is currently typing. The CurLine property is great, but CurX only tells me in pixels where I am relative to the whole form, and of course it varies depending on the font you use.     - Working With Bookmarks Word 2000 I thought this was going to be snap, but I've run into a problem and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have a document that uses a lot of bookmarks. I have macros that use the bookmarks to select blocks of text. Not every bookmark in the document represents a block of text that I need to process, and bookmarks can be deleted while the data in the document is being processed. I felt that I couldn't just use the bookmarks collection because that collection contains more bookmarks than I need to worry about, and the contents of the collection would be changing on the fly. I decided that I needed a static list of bookmark names that I could reference, so I wrote a macro that builds an array which contains only the names of the bookmarks that I need to work with. My thinking was that I could index that array to pull out the bookmark names, and then jump to those bookmarks by name.     - Outline view I have written a macro the performs a mail merge and then separates the single mail merge document into subdocuments and saves them individually. The mail merge document is switched to Outline view so that separation into subdocuments can take place. The problem is that the documents are saved in Outline view and when opened and printed they print in Outline view. How can I save the documents in Print view mode in the first place?     - Determining Word Versions (and what codes mean what version) Hi all, Does anyone know the version numbers for Word 95, 97, 2000, 2002 etc? I need to be able to test for the version of Word that my users have installed, and while I know that Word 2000 = '9.0', as that's the version I have, I've only got a hazy idea about the equivalents for Word 95, 97, etc. The important thing to my application is: Point the first: Is Word installed at all? (No problem there) Point the second: If Word is installed, does my code need to run on WordBasic (ie, Word 95 or earlier) or Word.Application (Word 97 or later)? The important thing is what version number Word 97 is, as anything above that will run with word.application and anything before needs wordBasic.     - Macro execution slows down of97/NT & of2k/w2kPro Have an application that reads in a text file comprised of three fields with a tag indicating the style to be applied. Originally getting a "Formatting too Complex" message and, thanks to Google as well as hints from prior posts determined that it's a problem with re-defining a line's style more than once. I re-defined my styles, setting the "Following style" to what is the usual sequence of the text and only formatting on an exception basis. This got me further into the file-which can run to 1,500 records with two pieces of text on each record-but still got the message. I then cleared the Undo stack after each record and finally "capitulated" and did a save after each block of twenty records (arbitrary #). It works but takes about 6 minutes to complete the task and gets slower and slower as it goes. The above is on my home machine (2k) and I know that it will take an eternity at work ('97), plus the fact that there is a difference in when I have to do the save between the two machines.     - Document converters - external converter #s and DefaultOpenFormat don't mix? I'm working on a generalized document converter which hypothetically should be usable from Office 97 through 2003. Emphasis on "hypothetically". :) I set Word to automatically open documents fed to it by using It generally seems to work OK for opening files which have internal filters - meaning the ones I can see in the wdOpenFormat enumeration - but when I try to open something like an Excel spreadsheet after setting Word's Options.DefaultOpenFormat to wdOpenFormatAllWord, it makes a hash of it. When I try to explicitly set the open type to the numeric OpenFormat for the Excel FileConverter (which is 9 on my system) Word throws an "out of range" error. It looks like it can't handle anything that isn't explicitly in the wdOpenFormat enum as DefaultOpenFormat. Do I have to explicitly set this as an argument to Documents.Open?     - Ugent - VBA Autotext and Menu from Template Deadline is in 12 hours and I am trying to build a template that: -Has standard autotext entries stored in it. -Has bookmarks as placeholders for inserting autotext entries -Displays a custom menu when a document is based on the template -Menu items will insert the relevant autotext entry immediately before the matching bookmark in the document I hacked code to create and display a menu. Everything works when the autotext is in the normal.dot and the code is in the document. But I need to use both the code/menu and autotext in the template. When a new document is created from the template I have not succeeded in making the menu display when a new document is created.     - Re-Protecting a Password Protected Template I have several form templates that need to be unprotected and reprotected without losing the data typed into the form fields...which can be found on the Microsoft Knowledge Base. The problem: when using the following, the template reprotects itself, but does not apply the "password" to protect the file.     - Detecting the deletion or grouping of a shape Howdy All, There are many spots where my routines draw a graphic (such as an oval or a rectangle) and then sets up an object to track that graphic. For example, at some later point the code might need to change the forecolor of all shapes held in AShapesSubset collection. A problem arises if the user should delete or group one of the shapes represented in the AShapesSubset collection. The collection's pointer for the affected shape is no longer valid, and any attempt to change the forecolor produces an error. Is there a "best practice" means of tracking shapes? I wish that shapes had events associated with them; e.g. "ShapeDeleted" and a "ShapeGrouped" events. It appears that this is not the case (at least in Word 2000). Alternatively, is there a way to alter Word's Delete and Group routines so that I can first inspect the ShapeRange affected and post my own event? I can, of course, write code that would search through all Shapes and all GroupShapes to check on a shape's status.     - templates and keyboard shortcuts Hi, I have a problem with templates and keyboard shortcuts; here is a sample dummy scenario: 1) I create a new document, and create a new macro into it. Let's say the macro is named Dummy and just shows a message box. 2) from the Tools / Customize menu command I assign this macro to say ALT+1. 3) I save the newly created document AS a template (DOT) e.g. in Program Files folder. Now, if I open the template and press ALT+1 the macro is executed as expected. If instead I create or open another document, and goto Tools / Templates and addins and I add the DOT as a global template, **no keyboard binding I assigned to it (step 2) works**. Thus, how can I create a DOT file to be loaded as a global template so that its keybindings work? I also tried to assign the keybindings programmatically in Autoexec, but this works only if the user has admin privileges. How can I let this work? Thanks to all!     - Calculator tape debug window I would like to set up some kind of an "output window" for debugging purposes that would behave like a calculator tape. I could write a little subroutine that would cause a text string to be displayed on the next line in that window so I could follow what's happening in the program.     - Use of connectors in Word 2000 Howdy All, I'm putting together some simple graphics, in which names (provided in textboxes) will be associated with certain shapes (rectangles, chiefly). To make the association obvious, I'd like to be able to draw a connector between the textbox and the rectangle. In the drawing toolbar of Word 2000, however, I can't find a connector graphic. In contrast, that graphic is available in PowerPoint 2000 and in Excel 2000. The help files of the latter two packages also document a ConnectionFormat object. However, the help file I have for Word does not reveal any corresponding object. Have I missed something, or is the Connector feature in Office 2000 not supported in Word? The documents are stored in History files organised into folders so the macro needs to locate all files within these subfolders. This is all fine in principle. Via various sources etc. I have created a macro which checks for Shapes (including first converting any which are InlineShapes), selects and then deletes these. I have then inserted this into the publicly available code for finding all files within a folder (including subfolders) [special thanks to the MS folks for that!]. Problem is that the Shapes macro works fine on single documents but, for some reason, when it is operating within the file find loop, it crashes at the Convert from Inline stage and closes Word altogether. I assumed maybe it was a resources type issue so have tried limiting the scope of the search by running on only a few folders at a time (there are actually 2 main folders each of which has 1000 subfolders) and then to running on 1 folder at a time (each folder has up to 1000 documents). None of this seems to work. If the document is open and I run the Shapes bit on its own, it works fine. If I run the file search and open macro, then the same command causes the system to fall over. Does anyone have any bright ideas at all?     - Using Word Fields Hey everyone, I have a VBA form where the user will enter all sort of data. Based on that data, I replace certain words in pre- defined Word document. I have no problem with. I do a simple find and replace in my VBA code. However, in certain sitation, i may need to delete an entire sentence or paragraph. What I do now is search for a unique set of words, and do the appropraite deletion. This method works fine. But I was wondering if there might be a better way of doing this.     - AutoCorrect entries containing punctuation I've discovered that punctuation characters trigger autocorrect expansions even if you've got an autocorrect entry which contains that punctuation character. For example, if you've got entries as follows: Entry Expansion f fyodor f&d fyodor dostoyevsky If you then type: "f&", autocorrect will expand to "fyodor" without checking for the "f&d" entry.     - Inserting Tables of Contents, Tables and Figures I have Document Template that contains a Table of Contents. I have a couple of Macros that insert Tables of Tables and Tables of Figures. The Macros look for 2 bookmarks. One bookmark is stored at the end of the Table of Contents field, so that the Table of Tables always ends up in the right place and can't be deleted by mistake. The problem is the 2nd bookmark keeps getting deleted if I delete the Table of Figures and the Table of Tables. Also, if I were to delete the Table of Contents, then the Table of Table bookmark would disappear. What I need to do is be able to insert the Table of Contents in a certain place, if it gets deleted and then insert the other 2 tables after it. For example, if the Table of Tables is there, then the Table of Figures automatically is inserted below the TOT, however if there is no TOT, then the TOF goes under the TOC. At the moment everything works unless the bookmarks get deleted.     - Select x words on either side of Find Here's an interesting request. I'm just looking for the most efficient way to handle this. I have a need to do a find and replace on a text range. The replace is simply a formatting change. However, I need to change the formatting on a specified number of words on either side of the matched word as well. I am looking at the object model, but figured maybe someone who knows it a bit better could point me right where I needed to go. My anticipated approach is to match the word, step back x words, start selecting, step forward ((x*2)+1)) words, end selecting, then apply the formatting to the selection. THE FACTS: 1) I have a really long list of word documents classified in two folders, each folder containg the same documents, with different filenames, in two different languages (italian/french).
