    - Calculating in VBA with changing criteria - I have a table in Word 2000, 6 rows, 2 columns. - In the first column, rows 1-5 are for review criteria, and in the second column is a dropdown box in each cell with rating values from 0-4. - The user selects a rating from the dropdown box, then in the last cell of the table (row 5, col 2), a formula calculate the average. The problem is, not all of the fields are mandatory, so the number of criteria can range from 1 to 5. Also, it is possible to get a "0.0" rating.     - Randomizer? I don't even know if this is possible, let alone if Word is the best way to go about it. I was just asked to help find a program that we could use to randomly test employees at one of our client firms. We need to be able to enter employee names (into an array, I guess?) and then have the computer randomly spit out a # of them that we tell it to, I.E. we input 30 names and tell it to randomly give us 5. The basic form set up, I THINK I can do. Randomizing, however is entirely new to me, but again, not sure if Visual Basic/Word is even the best way to go about something like this, but I haven't been able to find any software online that will do it, either.     - How can I get a LINK field in a Word template to refer to the cur. I am creating a Word Template document to used as a Form. Througout this document I want to show the contents of a form field so I used the LINK field. Unfortunately, I cannot find a way for the "filename" in the LINK field to refer to "the document that is currently open" (e.g Document1, Document2, etc. or C:\FFFF.doc).     - help with story ranges needed Hi there I'm trying to create a macro that will find and replace misspelled words in the main text of a word file (wdMainTextStory) but also in the endnotes (wdEndnotesStory). this macro will be called from other sub macros to find and replace different list of words or "spaces" combinations. I'm no VBA nor macros wizard. I surfed the web collected some ideas for the vba script and tested them. I'm asking for some help I'm looking for someone who could rewrite the macro in a way that works on those two storyranges only. this due to speed issue: a macro that run trough all story ranges takes several minutes to find and replace my set of words. i think the problem with the current macro stays here : If story <> wdMainTextStory And story <> wdEndnotesStory Then Set rngStory = rngStory.NextStoryRange I basically don't know how to write a piece of code that says "work only on maintext and endnotes, or alternatively skip all storyranges that differ (<>) from main text and endnotes. I also wrote another version that was fully working.     - Dorpdownlist as result of a value of a bookmark Hi all, I am totaly new at this scripting and searched many of your already problems but could not find a solution for my question so here it is.... In my form (Word 2003) I have a bookmark with a certain value (which is determined by a dropdown box choosen value). This bookmark has a value TEL04A or TEL04B. When the value is TEL04B then I would like to have a dropdown box created and visible to the filler of the form but if it is TEL04A the box may not be shown at all. I tried this with the scripting below which does not give any error but also does not give me a dropdown box.     - Run time error...help! Hi, I'm trying to figure out the origins of a run-time error and possible work around. Checked msdn and Microsoft's entire website for documentation but came up empty. The error is: Run-time error 35788: An error occurred in a call to the Windows Date & Time picker control. I am using several date & time picker controls in my userform and the error occurs when I am trying to initialize the display date to the current date. This was working perfectly when all the date controls were on a simple userform but when I converted it to a multipage control format, setting the date of controls on a page other than the current page displays the error.     - Cursor movement in excel from word (sendkeys?) How can I order the cursor within excel to move one cell to the right or to copy cells?     - Macro To Set Image Links I import documents from my Genealogy program that require the image links be reset (Edit>Links dialog). I have tried various ways of recording this dialog to a macro but nothing is recorded. I appears that the dialog window for resetting links may not support macro recording???     - How to suppress warning dialog? Hello, I have a VBA macro which its last command is .printout. Since the template I am using prints out of the set margin I always get this nonsense dialog box of "The margins of section 1 are set outside then printable area of the page. Do you want to continue?" Yes or No... Off course my response is always Yes and my printout is okay with no problem...     - Event after save I am using Word 2003. I have created a macro that gets the filename beginning with the server/sharename, using the ShareName Property. It stores it in a document variable. I can then put it in the document, eg., the footer. (The built-in filename path returns the mapped drive, eg. I: We want \\ServerName\ShareName ) I have put this macro in the template for these files. I also put a document_open event macro in ThisDocument of the template. That is working fine. So I am set up for the existing documents. But I am having a problem with new documents, or those created with SaveAs. The filename does not exist until after the new file is saved. For SaveAs, the filename before the save is the old one. What is the best way to handle this? If there were an AfterSave event, it would make things much easier. Do I have to create my own macros for FileClose, Filesave, FileSaveAs, and FileSaveAll, and do all that file dialog stuff? I believe (hope) I can put these in the template, also. Looking at the Help for "Using Events with the Application Object", I see I have to Initialize the Declared Object.     - Table not inserting correctly I am running the following code to insert a table into a document. My problem is that every so often the table inserts strangely and runs off the page.     - Update Fields, VBA, nothing selected I have created a macro that takes over the functionality of the shortcut for Updating fields (F9). If any part of a certain section is selected when they press F9, I want another macro to run, which it does successfully. My problem is getting word to update fields as you would expect it to normally using VBA. You can normally put your cursor in any part or a field/TOC, and it will update that field when you press F9. If I record a macro, I get Selection.Fields.Update. If I use this in VBA, it doesn't think that any fields are selected, so nothing gets updated.     - How to speed up creation of docs without displaying them. Hiya - I am using this vba code below to create in excess of 4000 custom word docs based on a template. The code creates a new doc, fills out lots of tables , saves it to disk and then closes it within a loop. It works just fine but its taking about 3 hours to run, is there any way to speed it up.     - Temp Files Hi, I have some word templates with VBA code behind that are in a shared location and clients use them by pointing thier Workgroup Templates to them. Every now and then we have to delete a bunch of temp files, sometimes hundereds, there is usually one for each template called ~$<Template Name>.dot and then many more with the names like ~WRLxxxx.tmp. However, there is one particular style which has a mono type, and spaces are used to line things up. I want my routine to search the document and ignore only the paragraphs formatted in that style.     - lyrics with chords Nowhere on the net have I found a tool for writing the song lyrics AND the cords in anyway other than by using fonts like courier, helvetica, Times etc. where every letter, sign og space have the same size. And then you have to write the lyrics on every other line and the cords on the line above. The problem is that it is very time consuming, it's not very graphically nice to look at, it's time consuming to alter the key (e.g. from C-mayor to D-mayor) and it makes it difficult if not impossible to integrate song lyrics with cords into normal documents, and so on and so forth. It would be a BIG help to all musicians world wide if a way could be found to attach a chord to a single caracter or even to a space between caracters so that no matter where that caracter is moved - it will have the chord written above it. Better still if someone could programme a macro or funktion where the above mentioned chords could be transposed from one key to another. It shouldn't be impossible as chords or notes could be assigned a numeric value and if you e.g. transpose a song from C-mayor to D-major it would mean that all chords would have to transposed accordingly: from C to D = 2 half-notes or 2 steps on a full scale: C - C#(=Db) - D - D#(=Eb) - E - F - F#(=Gb) - G - G#(=Ab) - A - A#(=Bb) - B - C I hope others will support this idea as it would make MicOffice an even more essential tool. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. I have a situation similar to another user who wanted to programmatically populate a dropdown based on the results of the previous dropdown. I also have a third dd which will be account assistants which I would like populated based on the group office selection as well. For example, if the user selects Atalnta from the (programmatically populated) Group Office dd, I want the Sales Rep dd and Account Assistants dropdowns to populate with sales reps and account assistants in the Atanta Group Office. Also, I have a Cost Center field I would like to have populated with the cost center of the group office selected in the first dropdown). In other words, on selection of the group office I want the sales reps for that group office to display in the Sales Reps dd, account assistants for that group office to display in the Account Assistants dropdown and the cost center for that group to appear in the Cost Center field. Is it going to take a ton of code to accomplish this? Not that mind a little work mind you and I love VBA (although I have never used it in Word) but I am a little intimitated b/c my experience with VBA is in Access and somewhat limited in that I use basically the same code over and over again in different scenarios. Anyway, any help with this woud be greatly appreciated. The problem is that the "finds" also see and act on deleted text. How can I run a find and replace that ignores the deleted text?     - using checkbox to delete a section of text I have a template that has 20 sections that I use daily and need to be able to delete different sections each time. I am not sure what the best way would be to set it up but I think that I would like to have a UserForm come up when the document is opened that would list all of the sections with check boxes by each.     - Low performance when extracting data I have written a macro to extract data from the active document. The macro should be a part of an algorithm to auto detect headings. The problem is that I get very long delays when accessing the DOM. However, if I remove the table of content, then the execution time will be below 1 s. Could someone explain why and is there any settings in Word that I could modify to get rid of this problem? I have tried to run Word in safe mode and also protected the document for editing with no performance differences. I am running Word 2003 and Win XP SP 2. My computer does not lack in performance. Each document prints out on a different printer. Sometimes those documents are started at the same time which results in printer confusion. first document chooses "ActivePrinter= xyz" while the other document chooses an other one. Now the first doc is printed on wrong location or a dialogue states me to put in save as prn file... Is there any way to tell word not to change the printer for the whole windows environment but only for the started application?     - Mail merge Datasource Will Not Change Records I am writing a vba app to automate a mail merge document. The doc is connected to an access database. The datasource retrieves the data just fine. Then I set all of the records include flags to false (thus excluding them from the merge). Next I iterate through the list to include ones that meet a criteria that the user has selected from a userform. If the criteria is met, a function is called that sets the activerecord to the first record (wdFirstRecord, I think). Then I use the find method to point the activerecord to the correct record, and finally set the included property to true. The problem is that neither the .activerecord = wdFirstRecord, nor the Find method changes the record position, it remains at 1. Nothing I've tried and nowhere I've looked has said anything about the records not being able to move. Is there something in the connection string that can cause this, or some property I'm not setting correctly? There are more records in the set than just one, so that's not the problem. I want Excel Document "Tracker" to open copy the JobName data to sheet1.

This all happens from with in Word VBA, how can I copy this info in to the
Excel Document. Thanks.
