    - Why OnClosing Doc. Containing my ActiveX Ctrl asks me to save. Whereas its already saved!!!!! hi! I have a ActiveX control Written in VC7.1 for Word. when i insert my control into Word and close the doc after saving the document, it again asks me Do you want to save the changes? But on thing to be noted is that I handled the event DocumentBeforeClose and in this i verify that the document is saved or not. and the doc. is not modified but Word warns me. I dont know why? I also pass fClearDirty = TRUE in the following function call. Anybody there to solve my problem.     - Can I read the Version into some Buffer without opening the Version into new instance of Word? hi! I have a word document. I added 2 Versions into the ActiveDocument. Now as from the Object Model its Obvious that there are three main methods to do something with Versions. 1. Open 2. Delete 3. Save Now if i want to read binary data of Version 1 into some buffer. I'll have to Open the version. and then get the path of the opened version and after that read the files data into buffer. But i don't want to Open the Version. I just want to read the contents of the specific Version without showing the user that the Version is opened and then closed. Is there any solution to this problem Thanks in advance.     - Word 2003 Custom Fields Hi I have created a template with headers & footers for page 2 onwards. The template however is a one page template, the headers and footers present themselves as they should, in the event of a second page being required. The problem I am having is that the header for page 2 onwards holds a custom field. When page 2 is automatically created by typing lots of text the custom field does not update. The only way to update the field is to print it, F9 it or print preview. How can I have the header of my page 2 onwards custom field updated when no page 2 exists until I start typing into my document? Thanks very much in advance for your help. Kerry.     - Move top-left corner of document into view When I open a document containing a table I do some editing (using VBA) in a cell off the screen. This causes the document to visually move to the right to bring the cell onto the screen. Afterwards, I need the top left section of the document redisplayed on my screen. At the moment, I'm using a workaround to achieve this - I select cell(1, 1) which is the top left of the document, insert a period (ie ".") and then delete the period. But, how do I move the top left corner of the document into view without doing any editing? It would be much safer for any text already there. Note: I have also tried turning ScreenUpdating off, but it has no affect on this. Thanks for your help.     - Creating a module-wide variable Sorry if I'm not using the terminology correctly. I already have several module-wide variables (created by Dim statements) which enable information returned in one macro to be used in another macro--a neat capability. But these variables only seem to work because there already happens to be some public declarations at the top of the module, like this: Public Declare Sub Sleep Lib "kernel32" _ (ByVal dwMilliseconds As Long) These public declarations have nothing to do with the Dim statements, yet they enable them to work. I want to learn how to set up a module-wide variable if there is not already a Public declaration. In other words, if there is nothing at the top of the module, and I want to create a module-wide Dim statement there, how do I do that?     - What is NoList Style? I was working with a macro that Klaus Linke posted the other day to remove unused styles. Klaus explains that Normal, DefaultParagraph, and Heading1-9 sytles are built in and can't be removed. I have Word2003 and in my Normal.dot there are two other styles that can't be removed: NormalTable and NoList. I added a line to Klaus' code to handle the NormalTable (skip it), but when I tried to add a constant for the NoList style I could't fine one. I use wdStyleNormalTable for the normal table, I looked through all of the wdStyle constants and couldn't find one for NoList. I didn't try each one as none looked promising. I would like to add a line in the below code similiar to the Case statements for NormalTable and the other builtin styles. Can anyone suggest what I should use? Thanks.     - Restoring the ability to Tab between fields instead of using Enter I have created a form in Word 2003 and used the macros described in the Microsoft article number 211219 to allow the Enter key to navigate between the form fields instead of inserting a new paragraph. I now want to change this behavior back, however for every new template or document based on a template I create, the Enter key moves between the form fields. I have deleted the macros described above; I have performed a "reset all" in the customize keyboard form under tools â?? customize, I have ran a macro to using keybindings.clearall, I have started Word using the /a switch, I have removed everything from the Word startup directory, and I have deleted the Normal.dot file and let Word create a fresh copy. None of this has worked. Can anyone tell me what Iâ??m missing?     - Loop not Looping I am relatively new to writing macros and have a feeling I am missing one step, but I am trying to write a macro that searches up for an occurrence of the word article followed by a space and any number and another space. I then want it to delete the space, and insert a tab. The macro works fine, but for some reason, it is not looping.     - Identifying table ranges I have a Word document with two columns. I inserted a table to span both columns but had to force a column break to balance the data. I have not worked with coding much in Word and cannot find an answer to my problems. I can't figure out how to identify the two (seemingly) different tables ranges. If I select the table in the first column, only the table in that column is selected. I want to search for data in both columns/tables to update information.     - Drop down list choices print but don't appear on email or fax Hi, I'm making a form in word 2003 to be used by our doctors to send a stat fax/email in conjuction with outlook 2003. I am almost there...but I need a little help. I have created a form with a drop down with items in the drop down list such as HEAD CT, ABDOMINAL CT, PELVIC CT. When I lock the form these appear as choices and they can be selected. It works great and if I print the page I see the choices that were made. That is perfect...but, when I actually send or fax the report, that field ends up blank. Can i have the text of the chosen drop down appear on the email/fax once it is sent? That is, if on the pull down I select HEAD CT, I want that to appear as text. Do I have to run a macro on entry or exit that types the actual word "head ct"? If so, how do I create that macro?     - mosBarBottom: Documented bahavior or a bug? Usually, when I create a toolbar, I do include the Position property in the Add method. However, for msoBarBottom, I find unusual bahavior if I do not specify the Position property until later in the code. Using Word 2003, with msoBottom in the Add method, I get the expected behavior, i.e., the toolbar is created below all other toolbars. on a separate row. However, if I use the Add method without the Position property and later use the Postion property with msoBarBottom, the toolbar does not get placed at the bottom, instead, I've seen the following two cases: 1. The toolbar is intermingled with the toolbars in the last row of the toolbars, and not all the toolbar buttons are visible. 2. The toolbar is intermingled with the toolbars in the last row of the toolbars, and all the toolbar buttons are visible. I would have expected the use of Position with msoBarBottom to have caused the toobar to be in a new last row. Why all the buttons show sometimes, but not others, makes no sense, as nothing else has changed.     - Why does the cursor disappear when I'm typing fast for awhile? I'm transcribing and can type very fast without looking at the keys. However, when I do look up, I find the cursor is not on the screen and whatever I've typed has stopped printing on the screen.     - Can I disable the prompt to save a document I am trying to record a simple macro that will select all, copy and close the document. I will then paste the clipboard onto another program. The problem I am having is that prompt that asks me "Do you want to save the changes you have made..." I never want to save these changes and would like to either be able to turn the prompt off all the Word docs or put it into the macro not to ask me. Any suggestions? The SEQ field is always at the beginning of the paragraph. The user basically click to insert these dataformfields to the template and data will be be filled in during run time.     - problem with COM add-in Hi, I have created a COM add-in for Word 2003 that also creates a commandbar/commandbutton when the add-in is loaded in IDTExtensibilty2_OnConnection. I then delete and set the commandbar/commandbutton to Nothing in IDTExtensibilty2_OnBeginShutdown. However, when I reopen Word, I now have two commandbar/commandbuttons. I think I remember that the commandbar/commandbutton is stored in Normal.dot. Is this the problem? Is there anyway to get around this without deleting Normal.dot?     - How can I get the page size (letter, legal) from a Word doc object Now that the VB.Net app can extract the number of pages from the Word doc object at run time, I'd love to pull the page size from the doc object, too. There's only two sizes we deal with, letter or legal, and if I can pull the setting from the document, there would no longer be a need for the SQL table that's currently tracking that type of information, but too often goes out of sync with reality.     - make TOCs easier to format ala OpenOffice. I've been playing with the OpenOffice 2 beta and really like some of the features they have. Particularly, I find their TOCs and Indices easier to use (I've used Word extensively (97, 2000, XP, and 2003) for years as a technical writer, grad student, and now teacher). Also, what is stopping you from including the ability to save in pdf like WordPerfect and OpenOffice? A deal with Adobe? THAT feature is one reason OpenOffice made it onto my PC to begin with.     - BuiltIn Doc Property - wdPropertyTimeLastSaved - does not update Hi All I want to use code prove that a document has been saved, or otherwise. Before saving the document (using ActiveDocument.Save) I use a message box to display the date/time the document was last saved i.e. the value of wdPropertyTimeLastSaved). I then save and display another message box with the new value for wdPropertyTimeLastSaved. The problem is that it the value doesn't appear to update the seconds field so, if I save the document at an interval of less than one minute, the two values are the same. Is there a way around this?     - Error Handling I am working on a macro to refomat fractions. Part of the process is to check the character before and the character after the range for a "/" character. I know that if my range start = the active document range start then an error will be generated. I am not very proficient or comfortable with Error Handling.     - How do I get page count from a Word document object? I have a VB.NET application that manages .PRN documents created from Word documents. I want to expand the app to include the ability to transition the .DOCs into .PRN, one .PRN for every page in the .DOC. Everything works just the way it should now, as long as I know how many pages are in the .DOC up front. But the ideal situation would be if I can get the number of pages from the just-opened Word document object. Short of going back to define a NUMPAGES field on hundreds of .DOCs, how can I get the Word document object to give up that information at that time it's opened?     - InsertSymbol inserts symbol as formated text the first time Hi, I have a problem with InsertSymbol that I have seen nowhere else. I need to insert a character from a symbol font and want it to have symbol behaviour, i.e. if I mark a range containing the character afterwards and select another font, the symbol character won't change. This might sound simple and I thought it was, but generally it doesn't work the first few times... In a fresh Word application I use the code below to insert a symbol character with some other symbol font than Symbol and the first and sometimes first few character will be wrong: Sub InsertWayPointerSymbol() Dim rng As Range Dim i As Long Set rng = Selection.Range.Duplicate For i = 0 To 30 rng.InsertSymbol AscW("n"), "Marlett" rng.MoveEnd wdCharacter rng.Font.Name = "Times New Roman" rng.Collapse wdCollapseEnd Next i End Sub I assume this has something to do with the font not being fully initialized before I start, but can I force it to be somehow? Or can I programmatically create a style or something to force the font to be initialized?     - big mess!!help! I am in a real big mess. I just spent 4 days on a huge macro and I accidentally gave two textboxes the same name. When I ran the macro, I got a "DUplicate ~" error. I couldn't open the form and I saved the template and quit word. Now, when I try to open any macro from that template, word simply quits (the usual tell MS about this problem) box.     - Word VBA Performance and File Size We have a VBA app running on Word XP that just started to run much slower in our latest release. We didn't change anything in the VBA app that would account for this speed difference. The only thing we noticed is that the new file (a DOT) is much smaller than the old (faster) DOT file. I'd like to be able to save as Filtered HTML but with new auto generated html files per section (i.e. heading1 and heading2 and toc and index) and still retain hypertext links.     - Centering an I have placed a graphic in my document, using "Insert -- Picture -- From File...",and am unable to adjust programatically its alignment on the page. In VBA, alignment options are not available for members of the InlineShapes collection. Even in the dialog insode of Word, though, it doesn't allow me to select alignment. All of those options are greyed out. Can anyone tell me how to use VBA to set the alignment to "Center" for a single graphic, not the text before or after it.     - Document_Close event / Document.Saved flag We have an application which uses Word through Automation as a text editor. The application is used with Word97, Word2000 and Word2002. We are currently testng to release it for Word2003. We have our own DOT file which handles saving the content of the document and have thus defined the Document_Close method. If the user selects the X (cross in upper right hand corner of applicatoin), the Document_Close is called, however at this point, the Saved flag of the current document has be set to True - even if it was False just prior to selecting the X. Does anyone know if there has been any changes in the handling of the Saved flag wrt Word2003 - or does anyone have any hints ? Thanks for any help.
