    - Word 2000 Merge with VBA I have a name badge document that I routinely merge with an Access data base on a server. I create name badges for several offices. Each office is generated with a make table and 2 append queries, with a query for the final data. The final data query for each office is used to create the name badges for each office. I recorded the merge process for one query, then copied for each office. This code ran fine, but when I tried the other offices got "Run-time error '5922': Word was unable to open the data source." Can someone help me with this? Also, on my computer it goes to the "I:" drive. On someone else's computer it may not be "I:". Is there a way to let the other user enter their drive number?     - genreate ms-word doc from excel Hi all, I have worked on an excel project recently with a lot of help form this board. The goal was to assort couple of tables from one sheet to another to make things easier for comparison. Now I have a new task. I need to generate couple of ms-word documents from this excel sheet. The plan right now is to have a menuitem like "Generate docs" in excelsheet and by clicking on that we can generate about 40 word documents or so. We have a word template file. For each word document we need to have the folowing things 1. Module name as the heading 2. Description of the module 3. Table of data All these information are in the excel sheet. They are stored in excel sheet using named ranges. Now, I need to gather these data and generate the word docs. What would be the best approach to solve this problem. Ideally we would like to do this with out even opening the word application. I am requesting your valued suggestions on this problem.     - Problem with Word Code in 2003 I am performing a mail merge in Word through an Access database. As part of the process, I check to see if a Word document is already a mail merge document, and then, if it is, if it has the correct data source. Thus, from within Access, I use: If objWord.ActiveDocument.MailMerge.State=wdMainAndDataSource Then ... This has worked fine with Access/Word 2000, or if the program is used with Access/Word 2002. However, with Access/Word 2003, the MailMerge.State value returns wdNormalDocument (0) instead of wdMainAndDataSource (2). I double-checked the document, and it clearly is a mail merge main document with a data source. When when read through Access, I get the return value of a normal document.     - date code question I am trying to modify the date code field to automatically populate a date in my word document X number of days from the present date. Would I be able to modify the following to accomplish this task and if so, how would you go about doing it? { DATE \@ "dddd MM/dd/yy"} So, when this document is edited today (08/18/05), the code will produce: Thursday 08/18/05 I want to modify the code so it is always smart enough to add X days to the date automatically.     - Controlling text wrapping around an image. Hello We generate word documents from content in a database (AuthorIT application). I want to have an image on the front page of my document _behind_ the text. When generated, the text is wrapped around the image. I want to use a macro to set the image to display beneath the text.     - Programatically adding new autotext entries to a global template I'm in the process of (hopefully) improving the overall use of Word XP in our small office. Being a self-taught newbie to VBA, I've found this newsgroup to be of real value as a source of info and tips. As part of the process, I've created a global template ( called RI_Global.dot) which will hold, amongst other things, all our generic autotext entries, ie - ones we want to be available all the time in any document. What I'm seeking guidance about concerns the way a new user-created autotext entry is "saved" to a template. My understanding is that the default choice is the normal.dot template, whereas I want the entry to be saved into RI_Global.dot. Is it possible to "force" a newly created AutoText entry to be saved into RI_Global.dot, rather than relying on the users to remember to choose this template when they access the Insert/AutoText/AutoText command? Also, can I intercept the "Alt+F3" shortcut to again force the entry to be saved to my global template? I've found the appropriate(?) dialog which might be interceptable [ie: Dialogs(wdDialogEditAutoText)], but I can't see how any of the options can be manipulated through VBA. Using the macro recorder and selecting the global template from the "Look in:" drop-down box doesn't shed any light on the steps involved when I look at the resulting code. Thanks in anticipation.     - Amending the File Open dialog Since upgrading to Word2003 I notice that the "Look in" box in File/Open dialog always seems to point to the last directory I used. Whilst this is sometimes convenient, most of the time I want to open files in the specific directory, "DirName", which I have created to contain my most used files, with its own tree substructure. I therefore wish to ensure that "Look in" always defaults to that given directory.     - Identifying Pictures and Drawing Objects I've done some work with a template that shows and hides graphic images -- allowing a user to fax a document (show image of logo) or print the document on letterhead (hiding image of logo). I found that the picures came in as "Picture 11" and "Picture 22" and so on. I was able to identify them by using the recorder and selecting them and then looking at the code. Now, I've had two testers run into problems where the .ini file doesn't seem to be storing, or if it does, it's not where I expect it to be.     - Strange toolbar behavior I have several toolbars with macros assigned to them. Two macros, for no apparent reason I can figure, rearranges the toolbars when I run them. The macros themsleves don't appear to have anything in them that would affect toolbar positions. They are both used to convert fill-in form fields to plain text -- one does the whole document, the other just does whatever is selected. When either macro runs, it moves two of the custom toolbars from one location to another. One toolbar has these macro assigned to it, the other is a custom toolbar with other macros, but not these particular ones. None of the other macros move toolbars around. The macros appears below, for what it's worth. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?     - Replacing Bookmark Text - Userforms (FYI - I posted this on the beginners, general, and userforms boards.) I have created a template where I created a userform with 2 "fields" (ProjectName and TaskName). Each field corresponds w/a bookmark. I'm using REF commands to link/repeat the bookmarks in the footer of the report. It is all working well except that the data that is input through the userform is getting added to the (default) bookmark text instead of replacing it. I found a MVP document that gives me a general idea of what I need to do (set a bookmark range variable) {MVP Doc: Inserting text at a bookmark without deleting the bookmark}. It includes a subroutine when using a macros/userform, but I'm not sure where to put it. Can anyone help me with this??? THANK YOU! If I input a 1 (for project name) and a 2 (for task name) in the userform when I open a new document, the bookmark data changes to: [1ProjectName] and [2TaskName].     - Duplex Printing In Word Greetings, I found a macro that is suppose to manually print duplex for printers that don't have the duplex option. The code is suppose to print the current page in the active document, open a messagebox so the user can manually flip the page, and then print the second (or even) page after the user presses ok. The macro does print, but only after the code finishes running. For some reason, it only spools the the first print current page command, and then prints it when the code finishes running.     - Access Database Update I have an Access database which contains information for a form. I use the database for merging with a Word template which is then sent out to customers via email. I also have text form fields for the customer to fill out in response to the original information. These transactions happen 5 or 6 times a day and cutting and pasting just doesn't cut it since the returned information is lengthy. Everything is working beautifully, except I don't have an easy way to import the data from the text form field back into the database. I would like the returned form to be able to be attached to the Access database much the same way that it works the other way around. Is that possible? The users of this system need a button to be able to do this. If I got hit by a gasoline tanker tomorrow, they wouldn't have a clue as to what to do with the returned info from the Word form.     - Remembering document-specific window position Certain of my editing tasks involve having multiple open docs in Word. Given limited screen real estate, I carefully size the windows before setting to work, which is a pain. I'd like to write up or find a macro that would, on a document-by-document basis (very important), save the window size/position for that particular document on closing, then, on reopening, have Word get the window properties from the individual doc template or information and restore to the saved position. Ideally, I'd load this in Normal.dot and invoke it with a keystroke combo as an alternative way to close docs. Is there a way to do this? I've searched high and low, but can't find anything on how to do it with VBA (I'm in Word 2002 on WinXP, with VB 6.3). I know it's possible because so many apps do it (including WordPerfect back in the day when I used it), but I don't know if it's doable in VBA. At this point I insert a new section and which I have to remove the header and footer linking to the previous section. I create a temporary bookmark, add a page break, unlink the primary and even headers and footers, remove the bookmark and then the page break. Everything works as it should and there is no problem.
