    - Need help accessing BuiltInDocumentProperties from C# I have a series of tasks to perform, some of which involve working with Word using the COM interface from C#.NET. I have one problem I have not solved yet: How to access individual elements of the BuiltInDocumentProperties in a document. BuiltInDocumentProperties is defined as an abstract object according to the COM object browser. But I have not yet found what concrete objects are derived from this, or how to access them from C#. From VBA or vbScript it is pretty straight forward: (vbScript) docTitle = doc.Builtindocumentproperties (wdTitleField) Where wdTitleField is a constant defined in the script file.     - How to determine cursor position within a document I have to create a document which is divided into "chapters". Each of these "chapters" starts with a numbered style - say SpecialH1 and therefore occurs once only in each chapter. Within each chapter the user can add sections at random and as many as needed if they require to turn pages landscape for maps, diagrams and the like. If the user is in "chapter" 2 I can allow him to add a new chapter before the existing chapter 2 (which then becomes chapter 3). However, if the user's cursor is anywhere within chapter one, irrespective of the number of sections it may contain I must prevent them from adding a new chapter ***before*** chapter 1. At present I'm using the following to tell me in which section the cursor is in: thisSection = Selection.Information(wdActiveEndSectionNumber) This works OK provided there are a finite number of sections within chapter 1 and by manipulating the information I can prevent users from inserting a chapter before number 1. The problem arises when the sections within chapter 1 are varied, perhaps 2 or 4 or whatever. Is there a way, perhaps, of selecting the numbered style at the top of each chapter and identifying at which number it is? If it was at 1 then prevent user from adding another one before it. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please? My head is going into "fuzzy mode" trying to identify the way around this!     - help on forms hey everyone, i'm now starting to use forms and i need some pointers. what i'm trying to create is a template that as a couple of fields and dropdowns, then i want to come up with a way to: 1. copy the value that a text field is inputed with (fill in text field) to another point in my template; 2. i have a drop down menu that either assumes numeric values (from 0 to 10). what i need is: if that field is greater than 0 then i want my template to insert aditional lines for user imput information. it's sort of number of relatives living with you. if the guy filling in the info inputs 1, then a couple extra lines should appear (Name, Age, Ph number) if you find troublesome answering it all, just point out a few websites or so. thanks in adv, Miguel Tag: Why Version modified internally on Each modification in the Master Document?     - dynamic instance of word should open a document, but not load any Hi folks ... I would like to open a document with a dynamic instance of word. Unfortunately a lot of plugins are installed and the creation of the dynamic instance takes up to 10-15 seconds on a 3GHz machine.     - Can't use 'optinal' when using Application.Run Hi I can't use references in my VBA code, so instead I use Application.Run to call subs and functions in my global addin. But when I do that, I cant use 'optional' in my sub/function. Ex. Sub CallMe (Byval Arg1 as string, Optional Byval Arg2 as string = "Local Arg2", Optional Byval Arg3 as string = "Local Arg3" Debug.print Arg1, Arg2, Arg3 End sub Calling the sub with CallMe "Arg1", , "Arg3" would result in "Arg1", "Local Arg2", "Arg3", just as expected.     - Load and Use Classes from another template Hi Group I'm in the process of building a bunch of templates for various use (report, fax, memo...). Once finished, the templates will be distributed through local network shares to my co-workers. Now the different templates have many things that they have in common (e.g. phone number, address etc.), which I would like to store in a central place. Also, I'd need some macros in all of the templates, which I would like to store in a central place, too. I have thought about using a reference in C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP that points to a resource .dot file on the network. That file can now hold all the stuff that needs to be centralized. So far the resource template gets properly loaded on startup of word, but I'm unable (or don't know how) to access the information within (through VBA code in the document template, say on document_new). So, these are my questions: 1) Is this whole stuff a good idea or should I drop it and "hard-code" the information into each template? 2) How can I access those classes from within the document template's VBA code?     - Word Object model does not recognize ".," dot followed by comma Hi, I am trying to read ThisDocument.Range.Sentences, to process all the sentences in a document. But when the text contains a ".," that is a full stop followed by a comma, as in the following situations - "ABC & Co.," Word object model does not recognize the text properly. For example, Thank you for contacting ABC &Co., and we hope that our association will be mutually profitable and beneficial. Now when I read the sentences, I find that "," and ", and we hope that our association will be mutually profitable and beneficial." are returned as the two sentences contained. I presume this is a bug with the Object model. Have anybody else encountered a similar situation?? Can somebody help me out here. Note: I am using Word 2003.     - adding caption to a photo I have a bunch of .htm files created by Word with embedded pictures (photos - inserted as picture from file). These photos are set to square wrap and left justified. I'm working on a macro that will let me add a comment below each photo and leave it in a square wrap, left justified in the same original position. I have this macro mostly completed but a couple things don't work quite right so I would be interested if someone has any insight. First, I created a transparent text box and aligned it so that it was centered just under the picture. This works fine but as soon as I group the picture and text box, the text box gets shifted from just below the photo to the center of the picture, messing up my careful alignment. Next, the act of grouping the picture and text box also undoes the square wrap of the original photo. So I was hoping that I could restore the original setup by re-setting a square wrap along with the top and left values of the photo/text group to that of the original photo. Unfortunately, while this almost gets it right, it appears that this shifts the final result to the beginning of the paragraph whereas the original picture was inserted somewhere inside the paragraph.     - Auto install button at startup - different computers - same user? Hi Folks, I have a little program that I have written and send to various users on my network. The program is installed by the user by running a batch file that I attached to an email - the batch file installs the various .dot files in the users /templates/ menu. All good so far. The batch file also copies a file to the users /Application Data/word/startup menu to install the button automatically when word is started up. Now here the problem : we have heaps of computers at work and more often than not a user will log on to a different computer each time - the startup folder is specific to each machine their fore it means the user must run the batch file for each different computer that they use - a real pain in the ass. I see one possible solution - howabout including in the batch file a file that copies another batch file to the /Documents & Settings/All Users/Startup folder - this second batch file copies the word file that installs the button everytime a user logs on?     - msoPropertyTypeString too short I'm writing a series of macros in VBA for Word. I need to set aside some text so that a subsequent macro can look at it. I want to store it in a custom document property, but msoPropertyTypeString is limited to 255 characters, and the text I want to store is sometimes longer than that.     - Can VBA set row height to present value I have a wide table that I need to print on two landscape pages. I delete the right half and print the left side; then delete the left side and print the right side. However, the rows will not align between the two pages, since they collapse to the size necessary for the remaining cells. Can I freeze each row height to the present value by VBA when I have the whole table, so when I delete half the columns the rows will not collapse.     - Macro for sending Word doc via e-mail If I want to send a word document via e-mail (as an attachment) I know I can use the following code: ActiveDocument.SendMail This opens a new Outlook box and attaches the active word document -- this is good, but.. How can I specify the name of who this is to be sent to. I don't want to use the routing slip approach since that seems to include verbiage in the actual text section of the mail indicating that the document needs to be routed further -- I have only one recipient that the file is to go to. Is there also a way of specifying the subject field verbiage as well as being able to specify any text associated with the body of the mail message?? I tried using the same code that works well in doing this for Excel but this does not work for Word (using the recipient's name etc..)     - ActivePrinter not working in macro. We've got an application that invokes Word, executes a macro, does a merge with data pulled from a text file extracted from a database, etc, and then prints the merged document to a specific printer. For years we've been having to manually set the Windows default printer on the workstations to use the specific printer that's needed because even though the macro has the command: ActivePrinter = "SPECPRINT" this printer never gets used unless it is the default for the user session upon the workstation before the macro ever gets run. The SPECPRINT printer is defined upon each workstation and is an LPR network printer which prints to a special print queue hostsed on a unix system which "broadcasts" the print jobs out to about half a dozen HP laserjet printers scattered about our network. We'd like to get away from having to make the SPECPRINT printer be the default printer on all the workstations becuase the users are continually forgetting to manually pick another printer whenever they print ordinary print jobs, and inadvertantly broadcast out those jobs to all the special broadcast printers and waste a lot of paper. The problem is that the "ActivePrinter" setting in the macro is getting ignored and it doesn't seem to matter what value it's set to... the print output just always goes to whatever the default printer is set to. Is this a common issue with ActivePrinter? Is there a better way to programatically direct the output to a specific print queue?     - DocVariable Fields Hey I am pretty new to VBA and am trying to set up a macro that will update all of the fields in a document that are DocVariables. Some are in the body of the document and in the header/footer. I have one set up that will update all fields, but that is doing more than it needs to as it does the TOC and all the inclused text.     - Template errors I had a template which was created with Word 2000 and now we have Word 2003. Everything was working fine until I wanted to add a new button to the template. Now any document that was created with the 2000 version template errors when it's opened in Word 2003 because it see's the code for the new button I created but it doesn't see the button. This must be something new with Word 2003 where it stays connected to the template and any new code that is added to then template is added to an existing document. Does anyone have any ideas??     - identifying lists in a selection Hello, I am trying to identify any lists within a selection. The user will selected some text in a word document (word 2002), then press the button to launch my macro which should convert the text selected into HTML :-) But I can't seem to grab hold of any lists within the selection - if I don't select any text I can use ActiveDocument.lists but there doesn't seem to be an equilivent command for selection.range. What I need to be able to do is find a list in the selected text, enter text before and after the list, and then work through each list item and do the same e.g. <ol> <li>item 1</li> <li>List 2</li> </ol> But if I can't even get hold of my list in the first place, this is going to be a triffle difficult! Any help, advice or pointers greatfully received.     - Automating steps to copy URL from IE into Word This seemed like a Windows question more than a Word question, I sent it to a Windows newsgroup, and was told it was a Word question. So here goes. Here's the kind of thing I do a million times. I've just copied some text from a web page into Word. Now I want to copy the URL of that web page into Word. I do Alt+Tab to switch back to the Internet Exporer page. I press Alt+D to place cursor in address bar. I press Ctrl+C to copy the address. I use Alt+Tab switch back to Word. I press Ctrl+V to paste the url into Word. Would there be a way to automate these five steps into one action, whether done by a .vbs file or some other means?     - Can I use a macro to break up doc into separate files? Hi All, I have a long document (a user's manual) that I want to break up into a number of separate HTML files. Ultimately, these will become my online help (compiled HTML). I don't know of any way to simply convert from a Word dco to a .chm file, so I'm wondering about a macro to break the document up for me. At least that much of the conversion will be done for me. Each section of the doc has a number of Headings of various levels included. Ultimately, I'd like to select all the text from each Heading 1 to the next Heading 2, or Heading 1 if no Heading 2 exists. If a Heading 2 exists, I want to select all the text from it to the next Heading 2, or Heading one if there isn't another one. Once the text is selected, I want to save it to an HTML file, named whatever the Heading text is. I know my way around Visual Basic, but know mext to nothing about Word. Is what I want to do a reasonable thing?     - Adding a range object to a Mail Merge field Result Any assistence for the following problem will be most appreciated. I am writing a macro that takes codes and text from one document, called Structure.doc and inserts the text, and text associated with several codes [which are stored in tables in several other word documents] into an existing report. The codes are stored in a word document that contains 1 table with 2 columns. The first column hads the code, the second column has the text [which may include numbering, formating, tables etc] This macro works fine. However, in the Strucutre document, I need to be able to toggle the codes on and off where on displays just the codes, and off displays the full text assosated with the code, just as in the Mail Merge preview. However, as the codes are stored in several documents, and only certain codes from each document are selected, I do not think I can use the in-built Mail-merge function. My thought was to use a mail merge field that the user could enter the code in the field, and then use a macro to insert the field Result from the appropriate document. I found this will work if using the fields(i).Result.text except that tables and all the formating is lost. From my understanding, the fields(i).Result is a range object and so I should be able to insert a Selection.Range object into the fields(i).Result. However, whenever I use the code: ReportDoc.fields(i).Result = Selection.Range word crashes. Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong?     - Need Help With Wildcaed Search Hi, I have a table with alphabetic entries in it. I want to search the table for all entries beginning with a selected letter. I need to add a NOT to the search but I haven't been able to construct a string for the NOT. As an Example: Table ... Argentina Argentina - Buenos Aires ...     - find and copy all highlights of a particular color Hi all. I'm working with a long document in which "glossary" words have all been highlighted bright green. I would like to copy all of these words into a separate document so that I can create the glossary. I'm sure that Word has built-in features that would be a better choice for this task, but I have to remain within this particular scheme, so I'm just trying to make my job a little easier. I have an old WordBasic macro that finds all the occurences of a particular text string and appends them into a text document, one by one, but I can't quite figure out how to do the same in VBA and then modify the search, and I don't think WordBasic supports a search for a particular highlight color.     - Word 2003 XML documents as plain text (unicode) I write a macro to manipulate some tags in XML documents. In previous versions of MS Word it wasn't a problem to insert XML-documents automatically in plain text format. How can I either set the MS-Word defaults in order not to have XML documents opened as XML documents or alter the following code to have the files inserted as plain text (unicode) files?     - Copy Textbox contents to clipboard Dear all, I do a lot of repetitive typing at work. I have a list of templates which I want handy around. I am thinking of having a word document with textboxes which are holding my different templates.     - Word 2003 Custom Fields Hi I have created a template with headers & footers for page 2 onwards. The template however is a one page template, the headers and footers present themselves as they should, in the event of a second page being required. The problem I am having is that the header for page 2 onwards holds a custom field. When page 2 is automatically created by typing lots of text the custom field does not update. The only way to update the field is to print it, F9 it or print preview.     - Move top-left corner of document into view When I open a document containing a table I do some editing (using VBA) in a cell off the screen. This causes the document to visually move to the right to bring the cell onto the screen. Afterwards, I need the top left section of the document redisplayed on my screen. At the moment, I'm using a workaround to achieve this - I select cell(1, 1) which is the top left of the document, insert a period (ie ".") and then delete the period. But, how do I move the top left corner of the document into view without doing any editing? It would be much safer for any text already there. I already have several module-wide variables (created by Dim statements) which enable information returned in one macro to be used in another macro--a neat capability.     - What is NoList Style? I was working with a macro that Klaus Linke posted the other day to remove unused styles. Klaus explains that Normal, DefaultParagraph, and Heading1-9 sytles are built in and can't be removed. I have Word2003 and in my Normal.dot there are two other styles that can't be removed: NormalTable and NoList. I added a line to Klaus' code to handle the NormalTable (skip it), but when I tried to add a constant for the NoList style I could't fine one. I use wdStyleNormalTable for the normal table, I looked through all of the wdStyle constants and couldn't find one for NoList. I didn't try each one as none looked promising. Document. I am doing the following Steps:

1: Create a new document named MyDoc.doc.
2: Save a Version named "ver1" into the MyDoc.doc.
3: Open Version "ver1".
4: Save this version at some place i.e. V1-1.doc.
5: Again open Version "ver1".
6: Save this version at some place i.e. V1-2.doc.
7: Compare both saved Version files using WinDiff.exe utility which shows a
difference in both files.

I have also tested the above procedure programmatically by setting the
RemoveDateAndTime property to TRUE before saving the versions but the
difference is still there.

Anybody there to tell me the reason why it so happens? Anything to avoid
this?

I don't really understand everything that you're doing or asking, but I admit
I didn't make a great effort to try. Because: you should NEVER EVER try to use
the Versions feature in Word. It's unreliable and can cause documents to "go
bad".

I don't know what you want to accomplish with this feature, but I strongly
advise you to look for an alternative.
