    - Checkbox control change bypassing ThisDocument.Saved Hello, I have created a one page "checklist" consisting of a few tables for a user to enter information, as well as four checkboxes from the Control Toolbar. I have my own FileSave and FileSaveAs macros to force the user into entering some information prior to saving the document. I also used Document_Close to bypass the generic "Do you want to save changes..." prompt. If ThisDocument.Saved is false my Yes/No/Cancel box appears. Yes - call my FileSave macro No - set ThisDocument.Saved to True (to bypass the built-in "Do you want to save changes..." prompt and exit) Cancel - send Esc All of this worked well until I added the checkboxes. If the user makes a change to a table cell (e.g. they enter their name), and tries to close the document without saving, my prompt appears. If they click No, the document closes (no further questions asked). If they click one of the checkboxes and try to close the document, my prompt appears. After clicking No, the built-in "Do you want to save changes..." appears even if ThisDocument.Saved is set to True by the prior "No" click. How do I prevent a change to the checkbox from causing Word to prompt the user to save with its own dialog box?     - Assigning a Macro to object, textbox, etc. Is there a way to assign a macro to an object or text box or even hyperlink text within the body of Word? I'm used to simply adding a command button on the sheet in Excel, but does not seem to be an equivalent in word. I was excited when I found the drop down on the floating textbox toolbar that led to the customize dialog, but that turned out to be just for the toolbars. I could not see any way to attach it to the textbox. My macro turns hidden text on and off. Distributing the solution with a button embedded in the text would be more obvious than a toolbar button.     - Table Cell Targeting Hello, I'm new to creating userfroms in Word. I did fairly well when working with Excel-Userforms but now im having some trouble and would appreciate any help. My question is how do you link a textbox with a specific cell in a word Table? I need it so when the user pulls up the form in the textbox they see whatever text is in the cell, they can then edit or type and it will then a change event would change the cell's text to match. I figured out how to use bookmarks to refer to a specific location but I could not get it to load back in the textbox. I appreciate any help, I hope it is a simple line of code im missing. Ben Z.     - Macro Output to OE6 Change 'From' Field Hello, This macro works well. It formats/parses a document and merge exports it as and Outlook Express 6 email ( *.eml ) The only problem is that no matter what is in the very first line, which is the 'From' field, the finished email always reverts to the default email account in the 'From' field. So the first line reads: From: "John Doe" <john@domain.com> But since the default account in OE6 is otherdomain.com , the From field reads: From: "John B.     - Word Addin Hi I want to create a button on my Word toolbar so when the user will press it, will perform a certain logic which I'm writing in c# .NET. For some reason that I don't know the button was created on every office application except in Word. At first I thought that maby the resaon is the button creation so I just tried to put a MessageBox in the OnStartupComplete and OnShutdownComplete and still no MessageBox appeared.     - Find and reset particular styles [Word 2003]: I am trying to figure out a way to programatically apply the ".font.reset" method to all text of particular document style. Ideally I would like to do it using the Range method of Find, but the exact syntax is eluding me. More detail: I have set up a number of checkboxes to show/hide certain portions of a long document based on styles (by modifying the ".font.hidden" property of certain styles). However, I am finding that the document can get out of whack, where certain sections seem to have the "hidden" property applied even though it is not default for the style (probably because I am also using the bookmark method to show/hide certain contiguous portions of the document). I want an easy way to quickly reset text in particular styles to the style default. The non programatic way would be to use the Style pull-down and "Select all X instances", then click the style name and select "Reapply Style" from the dialog box that comes up. Thanks. On our templates I am using the "filename" field code but it is taking the verbiage from the "name" field in HummingBird where I only want the number.     - Finding a String in Word I can use VBA in Excel reasonably well. This is my first foray into word macros and I am having trouble. I am developing a macro that allows the user to select a text file to open. Then I format the file to fit the width of one page. No problems there. Next I want to insert page breaks. To do that I need to loop through each row of the file (that's what I would do in Excel anyway) until I find the phrase "REPORT ID:" without the quotes. When I find that phrase, I then want to find the next string of characters following that phrase and set it equal to a variable called "RptName." At that point I can end the loop. (In Excel I would use an Exit For line of code.) I then use that variable in a search and replace function to insert a page break. The RptName starts one blank space after the phrase "REPORT ID:" and can vary in length. If I were using Excel, I would use the InStr function to isolate the variable name but don't know how to get there in word.     - VBA Duplexing won't reset I'm back again :( As previously suggested, I've used the code from http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=116 to control the duplex property of my printer. It will in fact turn on the duplex option as intended, but once it does so it won't turn it back off, even though it says it did (through message box responses). When I close the document the message boxes tell me: Retrieved: 2 Resetting to: 1 After setting, retrieved: 1 Now, if I reopen the document and close it I get the same messages, telling me it is turned on and back off, *BUT* if I open any other file (Word, Excel, whatever) it will still duplex print it. If I open the document it will give me the same series of messages...turned on...turned off. I tried it on all 3 of our networked printers (all 3 are RICOH Aficio 1075 PCL 6) and I get the same results on each printer. If I go to the printer window from the control panel and check the printer's properties it will say that duplex is off but when I reopen anything it will still print it duplexed. Any help would be greatly appreciated...I've been at this for a few days. Ultimately I'd like to use the above code for documents with more than 5 pages so that they automatically duplex print w/o any user interaction. Thanks in advance...     - Space between footnote reference and footnote text Hello, Is there a way to change Word's behaviour so that a non-breaking space is inserted after the footnote reference (between reference and footnote description/text) instead of an ordinary space? Since the footnote format we use is justified the space between footnote reference and text sometimes varies (since word spaces in general varies with justified text). We don't want that. We're ok with varied word spacing in general, but don't want the space between the reference and the text to vary. I suspect I need to rewrite Footnotes.Add somehow but I don't know how to do it.     - avoiding empty lines with bookmarks Hi, I'm new to office macroes, hence the perhaps unlogically workaround suggestion. I have an accounting program (Microsoft C5) that is able to print invoices to a word .dot template. The template has simple bookmarks where the invoice fields should go. But sometimes fields have empty values and the leave a blank line in the document. I would like to able to check for an empty value (or maybe the bookmark is not even created?), so that I can remove the empty line in the creation of the invoice document. How is this best done? I have tried to tie a macro to the .dot bookmark that checks the length of it, but it seems, it is not executed. Also when I look at the created document the bookmarks can't be found.     - Range start and end in Word footnotes In a Word macrop, I am used to doing Selection.Find, and then doing various things to the found text. I keep track of where I am with Selection.Start and Selection.end, and also such things as ActiveDocument.range(Selection.Start + 5, Selection.End - 1), etc. I now need to do lots of work with very long Footnotes. I can find things by using the Footnotes Story, but Selection.Start and End seem to refer to the main Story, not my selection in the Footnote story. Does this make sense?     - MID function no longer working in Word 2003 macro We have a number of macros we've developed over the years and some of them have suddenly quit working on some machines. All our machines run Windows XP and Office 2003, but we've narrowed the problem down to only those machines which were 'built fresh' with Office 2003-the others started with Office 2000 & were upgraded to 2003. By comparing the machines on which it works to those on which it doesn't it appears the problem is a missing reference to the Microsoft Common Controls 2 but the problem appears with the Mid function. I find it hard to believe that the Mid function comes from the Common Controls 2-it's simply too basic a function. I can believe that it's part of the move to .Net, which replaces the Mid function with a .Substring method, but so far I haven't found a Substring method/function/whatever in Word VBA.     - Writing automation clients for versions of Office including 2007 I have code that binds to the PIA for Word 2000 that I need to keep running. One of my clients wants to upgrade to 2007 and I would like to make the same code work for both. All of the kb articles I have read imply this should be OK as long as I use the earlier references, but they only discuss the versions from 97 to 2003.     - subtracting one month from current month to display month name w/ From this forum, I was able to find a script that will subtract one month from the current date for a "date field" in my document. I understand it takes current month and subtracts 4 months in my example, but then what is the +11,12) +1 doing? My second problem is, as in this example, I am subtracting four months, which should give me, December 2006 - instead, I get December 2007. The year does not calculate based on the month. Although, when I test adding 23 months, versus subtracting 4 months, then my year adjusts correctly; it's somewhere in the subtracting that I'm having an issue with. All I need/want is to subtract one month from the current month, but if that month is January, the year needs to adjust as well. Any clarification on this script would be appreciated!     - Enter key doesn't work Hello All, I am unsure if this is the correct newsgroup for this question so I have cross-posted to vba.general and to application.errors. My apologies if that is inappropriate. I created a template in Word 2003 and when I type in the document, the Enter key doesn't do anything. At all. * I am using Word 2003 on a WinXP Pro SP2 system w/ 2 GB RAM. * I have not assigned any macros, AutoText, styles, or anything to the Enter key and I am not using KeyBinding in my VBA code. * I am intercepting some Word commands but I can't believe they have anything to do with it. I am intercepting: - FileSave - FileSaveAs - DecreaseIndent - IncreaseIndent - NextCell - PrevCell * I did use KeyBinding in a previous incarnation of the template before I remembered I could trap the ...Indent and ...Cell commands. That keybinding did play with the Enter key. But after I removed the Keybinding code, I took another precaution and started a new document and imported the "Word Command" code module, which was wholly separate from the "KeyBinding" module. * The Enter key works as expected in other documents. Does anyone have an idea of what might be wrong? This is really perplexing me and I am frustrated beyond measure. Any insight is most appreciated. If you set the shading of a table cell or row using a theme color, a standard color, or a custom color (the choices available in the shading dialog) you set a color value (I think it is 24 bit) to the cell range. Using a the following line of code if the value was set to a Theme Color the number is always a negative value. If set to a standard color or custom color the return is a long value. Hi,

I'm having a problem keeping my Auto Text attached to my form. Here is what
I have done so far.

1. Created a document (doc.) Created the Auto Text and added the macro to
insert the Auto Text.

2. Protected the .doc and saved it as a template (.dot).

When I open the template and run the "insert Auto Text" macro (which also
unprotects the form and re-protects it) I get an error message that the Auto
Text cannot be located. I then:

3. Unprotect the template and transfer over the Auto Text (Tools, Templates
& Add ins, Organizer, etc)

4. Re-protect the template.

5. When I go to save the template I can only select the "save as" option.
And when I resave the template I lost the Auto Text and all my macros.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I am not doing properly?

Where were the Autotext created (what template is containing them)?

You should have created the *.dot before creating the Autotext.
Normally, when you know you are going to end up with a *.dot, create it
right away, do not save as a *.doc, and later save as a *.dot.
