    - Delete all shading Alright, now... i only ask questions when i really need help... so here goes.     - Disable AutoOpen macro after saving document Hi, I have a macro (below) that puts document information in the header and footers of a document from an external application which works fine until the user saves the document then opens another document from the same program when they subsequently reopen the first documnet it now has the second documents details in it which is what I want to stop! (The information is written to the persons ini file on their C drive) Is there any way to stop the macro from running once the document has been saved? all the documents start with a name ~qw if thats any help. The user can also open the documents from the intranet which doesn't cause the same problem. Hi I didn't know anything about macros and VBA for nowadays but I want to make my documents numbered sequentially and I looked at some related sites ( such as http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/NumberDocs.htm ). It would save the document after I made changes on the document and I think that the document have that Ref number on it. Hi, I'm trying to select all characters which have the same color as a certain character without any gaps example: bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb<cursor is here>ggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggbbbbbbbggggggggggg From the position of the cursor I would like to select all the green (g) charcters untill a blue (b) appears, so I don't want the second range of g's for now. at the moment I solve this by looping over the content and check the color of each char. On a colorchange I'll select the chars of the old color. This is pretty slow though and it seems primitive. There has to be a better way.... When I select 'print', it just stars printing the whole document. It doesn't offer me the selection of what page to print, like I have in other applications.     - how to compile C++ code with input file using API I'm trying to compile a C++ file with the Microsoft C/C++ compiler in VBA.     - mass conversion to PDF To convert multiple office files to multiple pdf files one has to 1. Set PDF as a default printer 2. Disable all PDF prompts for confirming file names, etc. This can be done under Acrobat settings or under PDF printer properties 3. Create a new folder named *my Documents* in ...Adobe/Acrobat/Distllr folder 4. Select files to be converted, e.g. in Windows Explorer, right click and click Print. Many thanks to Jezebel for helping with sorting this thing out. You saved me hours of boring work. The newly created PDF files are placed in the above mentioned my Document folder retaining their original name.     - Stuffing text from Word into a VT100 terminal emulator Here's a challenge for you. I need to get some complex text into a legacy database running in a VT100 terminal emulator (please don't laugh). So I am generating the text in Word 97 using dropdown form fields, with VBA running in the background to conditionally alter other fields. Once done, I have a button that copies the text to the clipboard. The user switches to the VT100 terminal emulator and pastes the text in. There are two remaining things that I would like to do. 1) Preserve the bold and underline from the Word text. In the database, bold is switched on and off with key strokes <crtl-6><b> and underline with <ctrl-6><u>. 2) Also put data into other fields in the database. I could due this with a macro in the terminal emulator but I want the data vary depending on the contents of the Word file. So when I switch to the database, I am thinking that I need to be able to stuff the keyboard with a sequence of keystrokes. I realise that the solution may depend on the specifics of the VT100 terminal emulator that I am using. The terminal emulator runs macros which are held in files.     - temporary font install I am creating templates for use on our intranet using Word and Excel 2000 on Win 2000. I need a template to temporarily install a Type 1 font from our fileserver for use while the document is open; I cannot have users install fonts manually and I don't have a TrueType version. After much Googling, the following is what I have come up with. It throws no errors, but it always returns 0 (meaning no font installed) and the font list in Word never shows the font.     - Word Form submit function I have created a form in Word 2003 for publishing on my website. The idea is that me or my colleagues fill this form in hit the submit button and then it e-mails the form and its contents to an e-mail address.     - Creating a visible field with a hidden component? I need to create a field that will be inserted via VBA code. This will be made up of nested fields. The outer field will use a Quote field with a visible text element that will show in the document. Along with this is a nested field which contains tags that I will parse for with another macro. The issue is I need to make the second nested field not visible and also easily parsable in code. I'm thinking of storing a delimited string in this field to contain the various elements need later. The only way I can think to do this is using the SEQ field with the \h. Is this the only/best approach? Here is what I want or similar: { QUOTE (CAUKEO) { SEQ AA-BB-CCCC \h } } So later on I want to parse out the SEQ field associated with the QUOTE and based on what it contains (i.e. does it include AA then..) do something in the macro.     - MS Office password, username I am trying to access WebDAV resources using MS Office client. It generally works however there is one problem. When I open the document I am prompted to enter user name and password. I open document using script and I already have credentials inside the script so I wonder if this is possible to pass the credentials to the Word, Excel, PowerPoint object somehow so I would not be promted again? I work in an office with 25 users which were all "refreshed" with new
computers and upgraded to Windows XP Professional. All the applications open
immediatly with the exception of "Word". It takes around 20 seconds to
execute the application and about 45 seconds to open documents no matter how
small the size. This is frustrating as the previous version "Windows 2000"
was much faster. Most docs opened immediatly. Excell, Access, PowerPoint, in
XP, all execute upon a click of the icon so why is Word different. I have
called our helpdesk for assistance and believe they cannot figure this out or
my request has been buried. Does anyone have a clue as to why this is
happening??

Hi new User

I suspect that the templates for your documents have been located on a
shared network drive, and in the process of upgrading the location of the
shared drive has been changed. This is a known bug in Word.

This KB article describes the problem.

However, I have still experienced this kind of problem even though I have XP
SP2.

In the short term, the fix is to set the network share back to how it was,
so that the templates can be quickly found again. In the long term, the fix
is always to store company templates on the C drive of each PC.
