    - Attach template/macro after merge Hi all, I am trying to automate a mail merge process, which has worked okay so far, but I am finding that when the merge to new document is complete, I lose the other macros that were in the original template. I am not allowed to mess with Normal.dot so I can't make my macros part of that template, which is what the new form letters are based on.     - Bookmark truncation help In our department i am in charge of putting together forms. We use a document management system (DMS) that incorporates Word as our database's word processer over the old dinosaur of a processor we used to have. Anywhoo.... we use bookmarks in incorporate certain bits of info from our database into documents (client's first names, last names, case numbers, etc.) The following is what I use to delete leading zeros from a case number bookmark: the bookmark in this example is coded as CASNMI. {=ABS ([CASNMI]) \# "###0" \*MERGEFORMAT} The result of this coding within the document is a number like 44565 instead of 00044565. It cuts off the leading zeros, resulting in a neater looking document. Okay, this leads me to the question that I have now. What coding do I use to get the bookmark for the middle name to truncate it to just the first middle initial. So that instead of inserting the middle name as "Smith", my result would just be "S".     - Changing picture layout from vba I am using VB6 to control Word and importing a picture object into Word. When the picture is imported, I cannot move or reposition it without clicking on the Format | Picture menu then selecting the Layout tab and then clicking on the Tight mode (or another mode). After I do this, I can move the object. The problem is that I cannot do this when I start a macro and I do not know how to do this in code. Is there a better way to do this in code?     - Clearing the 'Undo' memory cache in Word to avoid sluggish behavio Hello, I have to work with approximately 1,000 page Word documents (talk about pushing things to the limit). I often have to make numerous find&replace operations (in fact I have them all saved in macros to run consecutively and automatically). The problem is that Word seems to run out of memory and evens warns of insufficient memory. I do not need the 'Undo' feature of Word in these circumstances. How can I turn off 'Undo"? Will that solve my problem? What I'd like to do is include macro code to clear the 'Undo' memory cache after each find&replace operation. Is this possible?     - Word "pops up" a message box occassionally..... I'm automating report creation from VB.NET using Word VBA. During this process, I need to embed links into the document at various places. Sometimes, Word pops up a message box as follows: Word is unable to create a link to the object you specified. Please insert the object directly into your file without creating a link. This is all well and good (because sometimes the link *is* invalid!) but I would rather be notified of it in my code than have Word pop up a message box that must be responded to by the user. My report creation process is supposed to go on in the background with Word "invisible", so obviously in this case the user won't be able to respond to the message (err, I don't even want the user to be able to do so!).     - control PowerPoint with Word From Word, I want to be able to display a dialog box prompting users to pick a PowerPoint file. I want to open the PPT file, save the PPT file as JPGs (all slides in the PPT), then close the PPT file, revert back to Word, and do some more stuff in Word. The PPT file will always be in the folder C:\Work. I'd like to be able to build a folder for the JPG slides that would be C:\Work\name_of_the_PPT_file, so users could easily reference the correct folder if they needed to at some future point. Below is some code that gets me part of the way there, but I can't figure out how to get just the name of the PPT file. I tried using something like this: PathOnly = WordBasic.FilenameInfo$(.Name, 5) ...but that only works if I display a second dialog box and write more coding, all of which seems cumbersome for users, plus I want to keep the coding as streamlined as possible.     - Checking characters in a range is too slow Hi, I want to extract ranges from a paragraph which have the same color. At the moment I solve this problem iterating over all characters in a paragraph and comparing their color. Groups of consecutive characters with the same formatting build a range. The result is a list of these ranges. (eg from character 1 to character 8, the color is red, from character 9 to character 11 the color is white, ...) But as you might know, this is too slow because of the Collection iteration (doing characters(i) for each and every character in the pragraph is way too slow). I have a complex program, managing small word documents to make manuals etc. It runs with Word 97 to Word XP. But with Word 2003 i have some problems. I reduced the problem to a documents.open - command. I am really astonished, that such a simple example could produce the error-message, but its true on my system. It would be very nice, if you could tell me, whether its an effect just on my computer or whether you can reproduce the problem as well. Meanwhile I tested the same on another machine: same effect But the effect only comes, if the macro with the form is in a template, which is in the autostart-directory.     - Bookmark and REF-field problem Dear group, I have a template, which is not protected as a form, because people have to be able to edit parts of the document. I use a createdate field on page one, which needs to be repeated in the header on pages 2 and later. No problem so far, I use the Ref-field for this. Now, some people actually don't want the create-date so they overwrite the createdate field on page one with their own desired date. This destroys the bookmark. As a result, on page one there is the correct date, but on the subsequent pages the ref-field will give an error: bookmark not found. (Of course using a createdate field on page 2 doesn't solve the problem, because the dates on page 1 and 2 will not be the same.)     - Adding 14 Days onto a Date I have a program that mail merges information in Word in order to create invoices. There is a mail merge field called INVOICEDATE in the word document. I want to create a new field that adds 14 days onto this INVOICEDATE field. I opened the word document and used ALT+F9 to toggle the INVOICEDATE field and it showed the following: { QUOTE InvoiceDate\@ "DD MMMM YY" } Based on another post I put on here I tried to edit this field to be: 1) { FORMAT (DateAdd("d",14,InvoiceDate), "DD MMMM YY")} When I try and create an invoice it comes back with an error message: Error!     - Macro that browses multiple selection Hi all, No question, just a macro that some might find useful... Multiple selections (= selection of non-contiguous stuff) in Word2002/2003 are great. But Word doesn't have too many commands to make them useful (yet). One major gripe I have is that you can't easily browse through the selected items/ranges, looking at them one by one. Say you have selected a dozen words/paragraphs/cells... or more in some book with "Edit > Find > Highlight all items found in...". Or you have selected all occurrences of some particular style or kind of formatting from the "Styles and formatting" pane (... right-click on some style or formatting). Usually, you'd like to check out some or all of the selected ranges, before you copy or delete them, or change the formatting. Now, the only way to check out the selected ranges is to scroll through the whole doc (perhaps 300 pages), and look out for the selections. The macro below shows all selected ranges one by one (with a counter in a MessageBox showing the index -- "Multiple selection 3 of 7" ..., and an option to cancel at any time), and restores the multiple selection afterwards. It's pretty clumsy, mostly because VBA doesn't have much to offer regarding multiple selections. The macro doesn't work for multiple selected (floating) graphics. In tables, it will re-select only the text, even if whole cells were selected originally. Note that you have to change one line (containing "%F" in SendKeys) if you use a non-English version. Hope it may be useful! And hope there aren't serious bugs: Use it on your own risk. If the macro should run amuck, you can stop it with Ctrl+Pause ... And then, you should select all text and uncheck "Format > Font > Shadow". Perhaps, a future version of Word might add "Selection" to "Edit > GoTo" and the browser, so you can use Ctrl+PageDown/Ctrl+PageUp to center the screen on the next/previous selected range?     - Word 2003 ( Data Visible in Print Preview but doesn't print out) We have program code using OLE automation that creates a Word 97 style document and automatically prints the results. This has worked until we have started to update to Word 2003 on our desktops. Now, a table within the document does not print out but it is contained within the document and is visible when we do a print preview. The Options Compatibility shows as 'Word 97'.     - ActiveX control appears at top of file I confess, I've never bothered to learn much about in-document controls since they seem only to mess things up and userforms are far preferable. So I don't know how to react to this: At my office, a document recently edited has just now acquired a dropdown control at the top of the first page. The dropdown is empty and the VBE shows no code in the file, but nobody knows how it got there. The last person to edit the file definitely doesn't have the background to be using, or even inserting, such an object, and the only other person who's been in the file is me. Another odd thing: It wasn't selectable -- clicking the surface of the control never produced visible handles, black or white. To delete it, we had to remove the first paragraph (which it sat at the far left of). Is this a sign of something dangerous? Virus scans on both machines come up clean. I have a table with text form fields in each of the 5 cells in row 2 (row 1 has the 5 headings). Is there a way of assigning an 'on exit' macro to the last cell of the last row that a) checks for TAB being pressed (indicating a new row, as is normal in Word) and then b) adds new text form fields in the new row...ready for the same scenario to happen again (i.e. Potentially press TAB at the end of that row, too)?     - document event handler for document(s) in frameset I am trying to catch a document close event on a document of type wdNewFrameset. What happens is that the template is automatically set to Normal, the document doesn't even occur in the Documents list anymore. No document event handler of the framset document or any of the documents in the frameset is called at any time.     - Picture controls in a word form (unprotected area) I am trying to create a word form document that can be used to report software bugs in our product. I have created the form to ensure a consitent look and feel. I wanted the user to screen print errors they get to aid in explaining the issue and the only way I could do that was to have an unprotected area in the form which is fine. Now the issue, when I paste the screen print, the picture controls are disabled, I can resize but not crop or use any of the picture controls and the autoshpaes are also disabled. I'm trying to send certain pages of a document with track
changes through a macro (I do want the revisions marks to
print).

However, the followng message appears with every print job:

"The document being printed contains tracked changes.
Continue printing?"

Is there any way to programmically turn off this message
so it just prints out?
