 - Word 2007 View When I use VBA to access one of the header or footer storyranges from the main storyrange, the view allows switches from PrintView to Draft. For example if the IP is in the maintext story and I run this code the header text will be selected but the view will shift to Draft..  - How force a document open as Read Only Hi, I have Word 2003 and we are using a document management system (DM5) and I am trying to figure out if there is a way using DDE commands to force Word to open a document as Read Only. At first I was going to try and use command line switches to do this but I now realize that there is no such switch. We currently use the following DDE to open a document in Word: [DDE.DDEOpen(%"1"%)] This works well but I would like to force the document to be read only.  - SendKeys use for Hotkey? I run an application (WinAmp) that allows me to set up hotkeys. I want to write a macro that will send such a key stroke so that it will be sent from Word, interpreted as a hotkey usage and thus intercepted by the hotkey application. (Context: I'm doing transcription of audio files and will use toolbar buttons and voice commands to do things like Play, Pause, etc so that my hands won't have to control audio playback; I can keep typing and simply say "back" to "rewind" as my fingers catch up.) All the overhead works (toolbars, voice commands, etc) but using the SendKeys function doesn't get the job done because it sends the simulated keyboard use directly to Word. It never gets processed as a potential hotkey. The only workaround I've found is finding the hotkey's application, switching it to the foreground and sending the keystroke that way. Although this works for the hotkey, it fails overall because I can't keep typing ("catching up") once Word loses focus.  - Macro to print to PDF and save using bookmark name I am using Word 97 and would like to write a macro that achieves the following in an active document: 1. Active document is printed in PDF format (usually this involves going to File -> Print -> Adobe PDFwriter) 2. When prompted to put in the filename for the PDF file, the filename is taken from a bookmark (named 'filename') in the active document. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.  - Question for Greg Masey on Conditional Headers and footers Greg your conditional header/footer great when pages are numbered the same as the pagenumber. But... when you have front matter numbered like i,ii, etc or when you have appendices that use numbers starting again at "1" then in the first case the conditional header does not update and in the later you get, I thing, the highest classification mark on the two page 1's.  - Mail Merge data Hi, This is my first post on this forum so please excuse me if I am in the wrong group. I need to create a data base that I can print envelopes from. The data was originally typed into the label areas of a multiple label form. There are about 1100 records that I need to get into a list that can be managed. sorted by Zip, printed on envelopes, etc. I have been able to get some of the records to print, but because there are varying numbers of fields, the merge is not successful. I have copied and pasted the records into Excel and the name, street address, and city-state-zip get placed in separate cells in columns. I would like to get the data from Word into Excel and setup so that I can work with it. The list is for a friend, a 70 year old widow, who mails support letters for her missionary son who is living in Europe.  - Nest If Statements in REF Field I am trying to set up multiple conditions for filling in a REF Field but am having trouble getting them all to work. I have two bookmarks: ReferringPhysician and AttentionLine. Depending on which bookmarks have information in them, I want to reference that particular information in the REF fields for the bookmarks. There are three choices: 1. If AttentionLine has information in the bookmark, I want to use that variable in the REF field. 2. If AttentionLine is blank and ReferringPhysician is not blank, I want to use the ReferringPhysician variable in the REF field. 3. If both AttentionLine and ReferringPhysician are blank, I want the REF field to be blank so that it does not generate an Error! message.  - Using Cross-Reference to Replicate Bookmark Text Hi all -- I'm a self-taught VBA newbie learning as I go, so please bear with me. I am currently using a UserForm to fill in Bookmarks in Word 2007. That part is working great. However, the inputted text in "Text1" also needs to reappear in several other locations in the resulting Word document. It is my understanding that if I insert a cross-reference, select Reference Type: Bookmark and Insert Reference To: Bookmark Text, then select the Text1 bookmark under For Which Bookmark:, the previously inputted text should reappear in the cross-referenced location in the document. Do I also need to include specific code in my With ActiveDocument area to accomplish this?  - OrganizerCopy fails, half remedy found but cause unknown Hello. I'd appreciate your help with the following. I am using COM interoperability libraries (JACOB) in Java to create Word instances and manipulate Word documents programmatically. I am using Microsoft Word 2003 Pro (11.6359.6360) SP1, Greek edition. Basically there is a template A somewhere on my drive, and a number of different B templates somewhere else. I create lots of documents from the B templates, and then copy parts of A template to them with OrganizerCopy. In particular, I copy a certain macro module and a toolbar. We do this copying for every new document - currently it's not the right time to judge why. So, ... after random periods of time (sometimes it's a month, and sometimes a few days) and while everything seems to have been working alright, OrganizerCopy suddenly fails, particularly when copying the toolbar (it runs okay for the macro module), and keeps failing each time it is invoked (for the toolbar), until I delete the Data key in the registry. (according to KB191178 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191178)). After this everything continues to run smoothly. The thing is that i don't understand why it happens, and what to do to avert this thing happening.. After some research we discovered that at the time of failure, the data key in the registry (when we export it in a Registry Hive file, binary form) is exactly 1069056 bytes long, while when we delete it, and it is recreated by word, it is almost 10 times smaller. I saw that it grows slowly, and (it seems) randomly - although when i open it in the editor, among chunks of unreadable bytes, you can decipher the filenames where we copy the toolbars... Does Word stores them in some way in the registry? How do I turn this off? I already tried to turn off the MRU list, but it doesn't help. Maybe i do something wrong - e.g. leaving some files open etc. and then word writes info to the Data key and makes it grow, - maybe it eventually reaches 1MB size, and can't grow any more, so OrganizerCopy fails?  - Variance in word count Hi All I have an ordinary document where if I look at File - Properties - Stats, my wordcount is 256. This agrees with Tools -WordCount. In VB I execute x = ActiveDocument.Words.Count and x is 331. 256 is the correct word count. Can anyone explain how x becomes 331. It's not counting spaces because I have 244 of them, and I'm showing hidden text. Can VBA get the count from "File - Properties - stats" figure?  - Need program to convert plain text in doc into Word 2007 para Has anyone written a program that will scan through a word document that contains pasted plain text and removes the paragraph that is at the end of multi-line paragraphs? When I cut and paste from a plain text document into word, I get line lengths on each line that are determined by a paragrah mark (no word wrap). I've scoured the forums and help files & it appears that Word versions prior to 2007 had an autoformat feature that would do something like this. However, Word 2007 dropped that feature.  - Error if macro "Run", No error if single stepped! Help? It was a reliable piece of code, and stuff around it has changed but the key point is that if I "Run" the macro (which copies from a bookmark in one doc and pastes the text into another) the pastespecial fails (empty clipboard), but if I single step through the code it all works perfectly (NB I have over-ridden the Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut for paste, but what should that have to do with it?). I removed all the modules from Normal.dot and then re-imported them (not sure if I quit in-between though) but on this occasion it made no difference... have I missed a trick? Ideas?  - Link to external graphic file or insert/delete graphic I have a macro which I use to toggle certain graphics on or off. I have inserted the relevant piece of code below. The problem is that all my documents have mushroomed to 800+ kb in size from 40kb previously. My question is it possible to link to a graphic based in a permanent location rather than the graphic residing in each document? If not, is it possible to insert the file and delete it instead of toglling visible/hidden? I would need the graphic to be a precise size and at a precise location. Thanks.  - Can't exit design mode because Control 'TextBox' cannot be created I get the following VBA message when I try to switch from the design mode of a text box in a Word document: Can't exit design mode because Control 'TextBox' cannot be created I initially inserted a text box from the control toolbox in word and was able to input text. Upon opening the document later, Word converted the textbox into a picture. I receive the above message when I click on this picture and try to bring it out of design mode. support.microsoft.com recognizes this as a bug, but refers to this problem only in the context of when a control toolbox is added to the normal template, not to a regular document.  - Turn off replacement status indicator when running a VBA macro I created a word macro (word 2003, windows XP) that uses replace to get rid of space characters in tables. Some of these tables are large and there are a lot of replacements. A replacement status indicator shows up at the bottom of the word pane which greatly slows the execution of the macro. I have tried turning off screen updating, alerts, status bar and cannot make it go away. Does anyone know how to stop displaying this indicator? It also shows repagination status if that's any help. Motivation: I'm writing a document in Word 2003 / Win XP Pro, which document has PHP computer code interspersed. Variable names are uniformly indicated by a dollar sign ($) prefixing the variable name (eg. $myVar). These should be ignored for purposes of spell checking.  - Delete or reset values for all custom document properties As part of an automated document cleanup process, I created a VBA userform that lets the user select up to 14 kinds of things to be removed from a Word document (tracked changes, comments, hidden text, etc.) This is kind of an ersatz Remove Hidden Data tool. I would like to be able to include in this form the option to remove any custom document properties that have been set in a Word document before we send the document outside the office. We sometimes send many dozens of files at once and each may have many custom document properties set for it. We have received files from outside the office that contained custom document properties that I know the sender would not have wanted us to see and I want to make sure we avoid that same problem. The problem is I can't find a way to automatically remove all custom properties. These can be of two kinds: the custom document properties that are already in the document (from the template - I can manually delete the value but the name remains) and those created by document users (I can manually delete both the property name and the value for these). While it is quite easy to add new custom document properties and property values with VBA, I cannot find a way to automatically delete all custom document properties or their values. I can automatically remove the values for those custom document properties that are in the template (since I know each property's name) but I cannot find a way to delete or at least remove the value for a custom property created by a user. It would be sufficient for me to reset the value of a user-created custom document property to no data or a space or some other text, but I have been unable to get anything to work. Although just removing the value might leave the user-created custom property name visible in the document properties, at least the value would be gone. At this point, I don't need to choose to keep any custom document properties. It appears that it will be sufficient to just remove all and I don't need the option to preserve some of the custom properties for the files we send out. I have searched several groups and through the VBA help but can't find a solution. I would appreciate help with some VBA code that would handle all the custom document properties. Thanks. Now whenever I try to run them, I get a prompt: "Get a Digital ID" -
which asks me to either buy a Digital ID or create one of my own.
I don't want to do either, I just want to use my macros.
Can someone help me get rid of this dialog?

I have created a couple of trusted loctaions, and set up the security
setting to "disable macros except when run from a trusted location" -
but I still get this dialog even when the file is in a trusted location.

Help!

I figured this out: I'm not sure how it happened, but every single of my
created keyboard shortcuts had become linked to the
"assignDigitalsignature" command. Weird. But sorted.
