    - Problem with "Editing and Updating a TOC" After posting a message on how to create a TOC using just the first word of some major paragraphs, I went out and bought the Microsoft book "Word 2003". Page 598 worked me through creating a TOC using the manual "Mark Table of Contents" method. But, after creating it, when I try to update it using the "Editing and Updating a TOC" section of page 599, Word tells me the document does not have a TOC. So, I found that to update a manually created TOC, I need to: Select the TOC, right click it, choose "Update Field" click "Update entire table" and OK that.     - Range Start and End in Word 2003 Tables I am working with Word 2003. I need to select information between two bookmarks. The problem is this: I have a two column table. In Row1, Column1 before any text is a bookmark named CapBegin. The table could only be one row or it could be up to five rows. If it is only one row, after the last text character in Row1, Column1 is a bookmark named CapEnd. If the table is two rows, the CapBegin bookmark is at the beginning of the Row1, Column1 cell and the bookmark CapEnd is after the last text character in Row2, Column1 cell. I need to capture the text in between these two bookmarks (in column 1 only) and enclose it in a new bookmark named CaseInfo without any table cell markers. The reason for this is that I need to later capture the contents of CaseInfo, copy it, create a new document based on an existing document and paste it into an existing Table Cell as text, not as a nested table, but I need to retain the formatting of the text that is being copied. Both documents (source and destination have styles created with the same names, but with slightly different formatting). This is the code that I am currently using. However, using this code, the text is pasted into the new document using the Normal style. I need the text to be pasted using the styles that are applied in the original document.     - Resources Used by Startup Templates Dear All, When we put a template in the startup folder for Word, how much does it affect system resources? For example, if I were to add a template that includes 100 or so autotext entries for the names of our largest member firms, would that information be "loaded" into memory when Word starts, drawing away from resources from other applicaitons? Other modules and toolbars in the same template -- same thing -- draw down memory recsources or are they just "available"?     - How can I create a large text file is an efficient way? I 've coded a subroutine to create a text file (in this case a xml file) which sometimes holds a size of 500 - 900 KB. While the subroutine works efficiently for small file size (up to 50 KB) I noted a worse efficiency in case of large file size (up to 10 minutes of calculation time).     - VB on a Mac Folks I'm trying to do Find/Replace within textBoxes on Mac using Word vX and 'do Visual Basic'. The version of Word shouldn't really matter right? Since I'm using 'do Visual Basic'.... I am asking in the Mac forums as well but here is where the real VBGurus seem to hang... I've tried so many different constructs I cannot remember them all.     - Date suffix I would like to create a template for a user who wants to use dates in the format '13th March 2006' for example. Normally, as far as dates are concerned, I might insert a CreateDate field to show the date a letter was created. This might show as '22 February 2006' format However, in this case I have to try and use the same type of field but with the suffix 'st', 'nd', and so on after the appropriate number.     - Feasibility Question Dear All, Working in Office, 2003 with XP Pro workstations. We have a primary membership database running on Pervasive contains all our member data. It includes, from a recent upgrade, the ability to open a word template with merged date (using bookmarks) from the primary data file. We have a clipping service that provides images of clips, via a web site, that are stored as .pdf files. We have the ability to save these .pdfs (with odd numeric filenames) or "print" these .pdfs "via" Acrobat Distiller. The goal is to have a staff member who is reviewing clippings, be able to look up a member in our database and open a template that will run VBA on autoopen to automate sending the clip on screen to the members. So I'm speculating that it should be do-able, using VBA, to grab the member data -- name and e-mail address, save or print the "clip" file in the TEMP directory on the local workstation, open an outlook e-mail message, populate the address field, attach the attachment and leave the message open for the user to put in a personal note and click "send."     - REPOST: XP, 2000 versions on same machine? I posted earlier about having both the XP and 2000 versions of Word and Excel on my machine. Jim Cone gave me a huge amount of very useful info. The very first item, though, was "install the earliest version first". That's not going to happen - IT updates our computers by simply applying an image. This image includes the XP version of Office. With that in mind, is there any extra precautions about installing the 2000 versions of Word and Excel on a machine with the XP versions already there?     - Getting information from Access into Word Hi all, I'm very new to VBA, so my question here may look stupid or has been answered here a dozen times. Anyway I was not able to find the answers to my question. I have made a small Access database in which I have 4 tables. Table one contains (in every table there is of course a ID field) the names of products that we do analyses on, like wheat, flour, soyabeanmeal Table two contains the sort of analyses that we do on these products, like humidity, protein, etc Table three contains different methods that can be used to do these analyses, like ISO 712, EC, etc Table four contains the fields from the previous three tables, where we make all the possible combinations: for example: wheat can be analysed on humidity by method ISO something, but also by method ICC something. Now I want to make a letter in a Word template that shows on startup a user form with a number of comboboxes. In the first combobox the user can choose a product let's say wheat. When the user then clicks on the following combobox he will only see the different analyses possible for wheat, let's say humidity. When he then clicks on the third combobox he will only see the different methods that can be used to analyse the humidity of wheat. All this information should then go to the appropriate bookmarks in the Word document. I managed to connect to the database, because I can load a list of laboratories in a combobox that we can have these analyses assigned to (in case we are too busy) and then put name, address, postcode, town, etc on the appropriate bookmarks of the Word document.     - setFocus on textbox in userform Hi I have a wordtemplate with a userform. The textboxes in the userform shows a default text from the beginning for ex the title textbox shows TITLE. My problem is that when the userform is shown I want the text in the textbox to be marked, like when you tab between textboxes with text the text is marked and when you write something you replace the text.     - unlocked VBA project on XP becomes locked on Macintosh I'm hitting a strange problem. I've got a large project that I'm porting from Office on Windows to Office on Mac OSX. On Windows, I open the project in the VBE, then tell it to remove protection, so it'll be viewable without a password. If I close Word, reopen that file, and go back into VBE, I can view the macros just fine. I move the file across my network to my Mac. Open it, and try to access the macros in VBE on the Mac, and I get a Project locked for Viewing message. Furthermore, there's no opportunity to enter a password and view the project.     - Revision.Type property - inconsistent results I?m trying to add code to a macro to make it behave differently if the text it works on has tracked changes, but Word seems to act on whim rather than reality. Has anyone else tried to use [range_object].Revision(1).Type and gotten inconsistent or apparently wrong results? For example, in some documents I want the macro to add characters to a certain word, but only if the word isn't within a tracked deletions, since that makes the added characters UN-tracked (undeleted), so when revisions are accepted the added characters remain while what?s around it is erased. I would have thought code like this: If Selection.Range.Revisions(1).Type = wdRevisionDelete Then [etc] ....where the Selection is only 1 word and definitely contains only 1 revision, would allow the code to evaluate accordingly and consistently (and in this case, skip the action that would be performed if the Selection had no tracking). But very often it behaves as if this line of code isn?t there, and the action after that line *is* performed, with unmanageable results. Testing with MsgBox Selection.Range.Revisions(1).Type seems to return equally baffling results -- often it returns the value of 1 for an insertion *or* a deletions. Am I using the wrong constant? I don?t see one that would mean the same thing.     - Disable the Research Pane shortcut Is there a way to detach the CTRL-DoubleClick shortcut so that it doesn?t open the ?Research? Task Pane? I have no use for that feature (or frankly for any of the Task Panes -- I've always found them inefficient and pointlessly showy; but that shortcut itself used to invoke the very useful Select Current Table command. MS seems to have unbound it without saying anything -- as if upward compatibility is less important than furthering their apparent aim to enslave us all to these confounded Task Panes sputter sputter fume fume.... Is there perhaps a registry hack to do this? I don?t see a way to use KeyBindings to get rid of the association, let alone reestablish it for selecting the current table.     - Kill a UserForm I am trying figure out how to "terminate" a userform and code in progress if a user clicks a "Cancel" command button or the "X" on the form. Here is the problem. The user enters text in a textbox that could result in an error. That text is passed as a variable to another sub as part of a Do Loop. If the error is generated, the user is notified with a msgbox and the form is displayed with the invalid entry highlighted. At this point, I want the user to be able to cancel the process and eliminate any additional UserFrom code from running. I mean I want to kill it until it stops breathing completely. I can't get it worked out. I have duplicated the problem in the simple scenario provided below. All it takes is a user form, 1 text box, and 2 command buttons. Enter the value "2" in the text box and click the command button 1. When the error is generated and you are returned to the form then click the cancel button. This is where I want to strike the death blow, but as you will see the code continues to running (bypassing oddly enough the call) until the count of 10 is reached. All help welcome. Thanks.     - MS Word 2003 - Microsoft Office Document Imaging Dear all, I would appreciate if anyone could help me answer the issue I have in relation to using the Microsoft Office Document Imaging driver (Tiff files). In our company we currently use the Peernet tiff driver to create tiff files for our imaging system. In Word 2003, this driver comes free. As the Peernet Licenses are expensive we are looking at adopting the MS tiff driver. We did some work to compare the two produced tiff images (both generated from the same word.doc). What we found was that at the Super fine 300, there was no real difference in the image quality in the two file which was great, however the MS tiff file sizes were on avaerage 25% bigger than the Peernet ones. We suspect that the MS Tiff converter is doing more than we want it to. We believe its adding Doc Summary Info etc, but we also believe its also putting OCR information into the tiff document that we do not need. As the images are stored in our imaging system we are talking about terabytes here, so and extra 25% is not insignificant. What I would like to know is, can a word document be converted to a tiff file using the MS tiff driver without the surplus info (believed to be OCR data). there because I can see it printed on othrwise blank paper. I have 'set' all
the tools/options I know to view it and nothing works. Is there some VBA
code to do this? Something besides recording a macro?

If you can't see it using the ordinary methods, then there's nothing VBA can
do either. Try selecting the headers and footers: if the watermark is fairly
pallid to start with, then when it's grayed-out it may become effectively
invisible, particularly if you are using an LCD monitor.
