    - Select x words on either side of Find Here's an interesting request. I'm just looking for the most efficient way to handle this. I have a need to do a find and replace on a text range. The replace is simply a formatting change. However, I need to change the formatting on a specified number of words on either side of the matched word as well. I am looking at the object model, but figured maybe someone who knows it a bit better could point me right where I needed to go. My anticipated approach is to match the word, step back x words, start selecting, step forward ((x*2)+1)) words, end selecting, then apply the formatting to the selection. That doesn't sound like the best way to do it. Maybe I could do a regular expression match? Any other ideas? Tag: Microsoft Works Tag: 52958

    - Automating ms word tasks.. hello everybody i have a problem with a translation work i'm actually busy with, i'll try to explain it as claerly as possible, hopin' to find some good soul out there that could really help me out. THE FACTS: 1) I have a really long list of word documents classified in two folders, each folder containg the same documents, with different filenames, in two different languages (italian/french). Both respectives filenames contain at least a similar string as they are referred to the same product (ex. IT-catalog-bs342.doc - FR-catalog-bs342- NEW.doc) 2) As it was an old translation i made, i'm upgrading the old italian translation to the new french catalog. there are really small differences between the two versions of the respectives documents, such as a footer that has been added and some new items and fonctions in bullets listings. Some values have changed too. (ex. distance: 10m --> distance: 25m) My question is: Is anyway to do this loooong work faster by using scripts and macros to replace automatically what i want them to replace or simply add to the old files using new files as a source?     - Request for help to rearrange data... Hi, I'm working with Word 97 and I wish to rearrange a data source file so that it is consistent. For example, I have the following sample data records: "John Smith", "1 ABC Lane", "City State Zip" "Jane Smith", "2 DEF Blvd", "Apt G", "City State Zip" As you can see above the Jane Smith record has an additional field "Apt G" field. If I were doing a normal mail merge this would not be a problem. However, I need to export the data for another program rearranging the data using the following format: "", "John Smith", "1 ABC Lane", "City State Zip" "Jane Smith", "2 DEF Blvd", "Apt G", "City State Zip" Is there a Find/Replace command I can use on this data or must I create a macro to handle this problem?     - HELP: can't debug Hello; All of a sudden when I go to debug my add-in (.net/C#/IDTExtensibility2) it launches Word - but won't start my add-in. I have a breakpoint in OnConnection and it never gets there. One thing I recently did - I changed the setup project to create a shim add-in. I can build, install, and run as an add-in.     - Saving Word Document without Attached macro Hi All, I have created a template with word and VBA that takes all the word docs in a specific folder and allows a user to open the selected document for edit, when the user goes to edit the document it opens the document into another template that i created which has a custom toolbar attached to it and various VBA commands to control the events on this toolbar. The problem i am having is when the user presses SAVE on my custom toolbar, the document saves fine however it also saves the toolbar and all i want is to save the text changes I DON'T want to save the attached toolbar.. how do i do this? this is the code i have for saving in my custom toolbar.     - Booklet, back to front, landscape 1/2 page Dear fellows, I hope someone can help me. I want to publish a club handbook that is printed on 8 1/2 X 11 folded in half. This effectively would have the first page printed with the last on the same sheet. Just like a magazine is printed then stapled together. The problem is I don't know how many pages will be involved so I just can't start by typing the first page and the last page on the same page and printing. The number of pages will change several times a year. The question then becomes...is there a template or program that will do this for me? In other words, allow me to type the pages sequentially and when I'm finished rearrange the pages for proper printing regardless of how many pages are involved. Years back in another life I remember a Mac program that allowed me to do exactly what I want, but I can't seem to find it for Word. Thanks for any help you can give. First question: Is it better to use the 'Do While' clause with this (which I'm thinking it might be).     - double click to update Fill-in field Hello all, I am looking for a way to update Fill-in fields by doubleclicking on them instead of using the update field command by clicking the right mouse button. I have a document with some Fill-in fields. This document is about 10 pages long and every page contains one or more Fill-in fields. I know I can also use the function UpdateAllFields instead off the right mouse button. But then I have to go through all the Fill-in fields when I only want to change, for example, the 11th Fill-in field in the document. I am just a beginner with VBA-coding so I don't know a lot about putting the above problem in a code. I know it has something to do with the WindowBeforeDoubleClick, but the VBA-help doesn't help me out that much.     - Listing Bookmark By Location in Document Word 2000 I have a simple macro that populates an array with bookmark names by reading the contents of the Bookmarks collection. The only problem is that it fills the array with the bookmark names in alphabetical order, and I need them listed in the order in which they appear in the document from top to bottom.     - Status Bar Appears Mid-Screen Of2k/w2kPro & Of97/nt4 Macro calls for the TOC to be generated. The "re-paginating" message flashes mid-screen rather than staying put on the bottom of the display.     - Build Table with Macro I have used a macro to update an existing table by deleting all the rows after the first, and the reading data from a file and adding new rows. I would now like to create the first row of a table with a macro ( that would allow me to set the number of columns). I recorded a macro when I used the tool bar to create a table, but that only showded the number of row and columns. It didn't show me how to set the width of each column.     - Missing FilePicker Dialog I had been using the FileDialog object in a Word (2002) add-in until a colleague running Word 2000 tried to use it and got an error. I discovered that the FileDialog object is available only in the Office 10.0 library. Since I need to distribute this add-in to people whose version of Office I won't be able to update, I want to do without using the FileDialog object. But I can't seem to find a filepicker type dialog otherwise. Does one exist? Or will I need to create my own filepicker using a userform? I should note that I considered using Word's built-in fileopen dialog as a workaround. But I don't need to open the file that is picked. (The program simply needs to take the fullname of the document that is picked and assign that value to one of the activedocument's variables.) I'd prefer to avoid that workaround if possible.     - Can 3rd Party Tools or Machine Configuration (i.e. Win XP / Office 2000) Interfere with Overridden Word Commands? Hello, I have overriden code that runs for the "EditPaste" Word command. This works fine on a Win98 / Office 2000, Win XP Pro / Office XP Developer and WINNT / Office 2000 machines all of which do not have 3rd party MS Word-associated addins and / or tools. The routine does not fire on a Win XP / Office 2000 machine that also has FactSet addin tools installed. More specifically, a dummy "EditPaste" routine used for testing does fire provided the clipboard is empty when the user does a Ctrl + V or Edit > Paste. When i start my Wordtemplate i want Word to start with a Form who will fill in som fields from a textfile.     - Working with Tables I have two (probably simple) questions: 1. Why does word append cell values in tables with the strange formatting marks? If I retrieve a cell value by: Debug.Print ThisDocument.Tables(1).Cell(1, 1).Range.Text I get the cell value (e.g., "MyValue") with two extra characters that seem to be a carriage return and a tab line character. I am correcting this by using the following function...but I am thinking maybe there is an easier way (if not, will this function always work?): Debug.Print Left(ThisDocument.Tables(x).Cell(1, 1).Range.Text, _ Len(ThisDocument.Tables(x).Cell(1, 1).Range.Text) - 2) 2. How do you retrieve tables that are in the header/footer area?     - VBA with Word Viewer (relates to MS Access and Word) Hi all, I'm going to start by talking about MS Access, but this is a Word question and relates to the Word VBA library. The situation is I have a MS Access DB that will be running using the Access runtime environment. The application I'm developing is for a developing country, and therefore I cannot assume users will have Access or Word available. Developing the database is not a problem - there is a runtime version of Access and we have the budget to afford unlimited licenses for distribution. However, one of the outputs of the application needs to be a great variety of printed forms (tax returns, appeal applications, tax refund applications, etc) which all exist in Word format. Getting the DB to pull out data and programmatically write it to word documents is not a challenge - as long as the user has Word 2000 on their system. I've downloaded the Word Viewer, which is free and great so far as all that needs to be done is to open and print a document, but from what I can tell I won't be able to use it to generate documents on the fly like I'm doing above, so I guess my question is: 1) As long as I've got the appropriate libraries enabled in Access, can I still get at the classes I need to programmatically edit Word documents even if Word is not installed? Spaces instead of commas and a comma for the decimal place holder. I have 1)changed my "Regional Options" under the Control Panel to France and made the appropriate changes to the comma separator and decimal place holder. 2) Altered my US formula (which works) by substituting the spaces and commas.     - Column Headers in Catalog Merge? Hello All, I am programatically using the Word 2000 Object Model to execute a mail merge via a Visual Basic program. The main document type is set as Catalog and the output produces a single table with invoice payment line items. The table is created successfully after the merge, however I would like to be able to put column headers on the table as well. If I add column headers to the main document and then merge, I end up with the headers being repeated in every other row of the table. For example: Headers First Payment line item Headers (Repeated) Second Payment line item Headers (Repeated) Third Payment line item etc... I was wondering if there was a way to designate that the column headers should only be displayed once (either programatically via the Word object or in the main document itself).     - Word mail merge and files per receiptent I use the Word mail merge functionality to mass produce letters. I have a word template with defined fields and a data source (Excel-file). The mail merge functionality however, merges the data source with the template into one single Word-document containing all letters (multiple receiptents in one file). Is there a way to merge into on document/file per receiptent? Second question: To handle this missing functionality mentioned above, I made a VB snippet to split the big merged document into one file per receiptent. This is how the VB code I wrote performs this: 1. I make a SELECTION in the merged document (with multiple letters), ranging from beginning to end of the letter for ONE person. 2. Copy this content to the clipboard. 3. Open a new blank document. 4. Paste it into the new blank document. 5. Saving to a new file. The problem here however was: How can I specify a SELECTION in a document by page numbers? I had to specify the SELECTION range by number of paragraphs, which is not a precise specification.     - Weirdness with two docs open based on same template i have a Word VBA template with a lot of code and userforms in it, and everything is working fine. however, i've discovered that, if I create two documents (doc1 and doc2) based on that same template and have both open at once, I get strange behavior. Specifically, whenever i call the .Show method of a userform in doc1, all is fine. But if I call the .Show method of one of my userforms in doc2, then doc1 becomes the ActiveDocument before that userform is displayed. As a result, when the userform inserts text into the document, it always gets inserted into doc1. And doc1 remains the ActiveDocument. I don't understand what I could be doing to change Word's idea of the ActiveDocument, but I must be. I believe you have to get a copy for each computer. Copies are
available at a reasonable cost at www.directdeals.com. For example,
works suite 2004 for $42.00, or if you don't need the latest version,
for a bit less.
