    - About Sequentially numbered documents? Hi I didn't know anything about macros and VBA for nowadays but I want to make my documents numbered sequentially and I looked at some related sites ( such as http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/NumberDocs.htm ). But the problem is it saves the document after it opens the new numbered document so if i made a mistake to open a new document i should delete the last document that was created and also change the order number in the â??Counter.txtâ?? to -1. I hope I had explained my problem well :) So I think about the problem and have some answers like; * Macro shouldn't save the document at the beginning (after the creation of the new document). It would save the document after I made changes on the document and I think that the document have that Ref number on it. So it should save the document after I made my changes on document (before closing the document). As I said at the beginning I donâ??t know VBA codes so I need help from you.     - Quick & clean way to select all following chars until colorchange? Hi, I'm trying to select all characters which have the same color as a certain character without any gaps example: bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb<cursor is here>ggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggbbbbbbbggggggggggg From the position of the cursor I would like to select all the green (g) charcters untill a blue (b) appears, so I don't want the second range of g's for now. at the moment I solve this by looping over the content and check the color of each char. When I select 'print', it just stars printing the whole document. It doesn't offer me the selection of what page to print, like I have in other applications.     - how to compile C++ code with input file using API I'm trying to compile a C++ file with the Microsoft C/C++ compiler in VBA.     - mass conversion to PDF To convert multiple office files to multiple pdf files one has to 1. Set PDF as a default printer 2. Disable all PDF prompts for confirming file names, etc. This can be done under Acrobat settings or under PDF printer properties 3. Create a new folder named *my Documents* in ...Adobe/Acrobat/Distllr folder 4. Select files to be converted, e.g. in Windows Explorer, right click and click Print. Many thanks to Jezebel for helping with sorting this thing out. You saved me hours of boring work. The newly created PDF files are placed in the above mentioned my Document folder retaining their original name.     - Stuffing text from Word into a VT100 terminal emulator Here's a challenge for you. I need to get some complex text into a legacy database running in a VT100 terminal emulator (please don't laugh). So I am generating the text in Word 97 using dropdown form fields, with VBA running in the background to conditionally alter other fields. Once done, I have a button that copies the text to the clipboard. The user switches to the VT100 terminal emulator and pastes the text in. There are two remaining things that I would like to do. 1) Preserve the bold and underline from the Word text. In the database, bold is switched on and off with key strokes <crtl-6><b> and underline with <ctrl-6><u>. 2) Also put data into other fields in the database. I could due this with a macro in the terminal emulator but I want the data vary depending on the contents of the Word file. So when I switch to the database, I am thinking that I need to be able to stuff the keyboard with a sequence of keystrokes. I realise that the solution may depend on the specifics of the VT100 terminal emulator that I am using. The terminal emulator runs macros which are held in files.     - temporary font install I am creating templates for use on our intranet using Word and Excel 2000 on Win 2000. I need a template to temporarily install a Type 1 font from our fileserver for use while the document is open; I cannot have users install fonts manually and I don't have a TrueType version. After much Googling, the following is what I have come up with. It throws no errors, but it always returns 0 (meaning no font installed) and the font list in Word never shows the font.     - Word Form submit function I have created a form in Word 2003 for publishing on my website. The idea is that me or my colleagues fill this form in hit the submit button and then it e-mails the form and its contents to an e-mail address.     - Creating a visible field with a hidden component? I need to create a field that will be inserted via VBA code. This will be made up of nested fields. The outer field will use a Quote field with a visible text element that will show in the document. Along with this is a nested field which contains tags that I will parse for with another macro. The issue is I need to make the second nested field not visible and also easily parsable in code. I'm thinking of storing a delimited string in this field to contain the various elements need later. The only way I can think to do this is using the SEQ field with the \h. Is this the only/best approach?     - MS Office password, username I am trying to access WebDAV resources using MS Office client. It generally works however there is one problem. When I open the document I am prompted to enter user name and password.     - How to lock styles, remove protection, then protect doc in 2003? I'm trying to lock styles only, when the doc opens (user will be able to edit doc). Before saving, i want to remove the password protect, set all section protectionforforms to true, then reprotect doc as well as lock styles. When I try to set the protectionforforms, I get an error "Command not available because document is password-protected". I ran the below macros in the order from top to bottom for demo purposes and got the error. I have a work around (before I set the protectionforforms, I protect the document with Type:=wdAllowOnlyFormFields, unprotect it, set the protectionforforms, then reprotect.) Or, even better, break out of the code to allow the user to choose his doc and select a specific position in the doc? I have a Word macro that takes a selection copied from Excel and pastes it into my Word report with certain formatting. Some of my coworkers could make use of this macro as well, but it would be easier to put the macro in an Excel workbook I already distribute with macros than to get them to add it into Word.     - multiple .doc files conversion to multiple pdf I need to create many PDF files from many Word and Power Point documents. I have Acrobat 6.0, Office 2003 pro installed under W2K pro (can have Adobe CS with the newest Acrobat). In Acrobat 6, there is an option of converting many files into a single PDF. But I need to convert them one to one. I thus think I have to do it via vba code, but run into problems. Following hints from this group I can loop through all the files I need to convert via: For Each filFile In fdrFolder.Files strFileName = fso.GetFileName(filFile) â??code to convert strFileName to PDF Next filFile I am not sure what should be the command to do the conversion. When recorded a macro to see how it is done, I see that it does not use the file name at all, but this is a single file conversion from an active word document. Also, the Acrobat is asking for accepting to save the new file as whatever, which I would like to automate as well. I have over two hundred files to convert. I would like to do it like filename1.doc -> filename1.pdf and so on. If the PDF files could go to a different folder than the source folder it would be nice, but this is can easily be done manually or via a macro that I think I can write. Recently all precedents with a particular template attached have lost the template after the generated precedent is closed (no difference if precedent saved to network or locally). I have noticed that if I open 2 word documents so that I can see them both at the same time and select some text in just one of them, that the COPY commandbutton is enabled on the document with the selection, but not on the one without. I want to replicate this, but when I try with a custom commandbutton, the buttons on both documents are either enabled or disabled. how can i get the same behaviour as words built in buttons? how can I get it to display both states?     - drop down form fields I have a form which contains a number of entries as drop down form fields (to allow users to select from a drop down list) and simple text fields. Data from the Word document then needs to be extracted and loaded into an Excel spreadsheet. I am using Word bookmarks to pass data into a VBA variable and into a function which calls an instance of Excel, opens the appropriate workbook and worksheet and fills out the relevant columns and rows - that bit is not a problem. However, whilst the data from the text form field is passing across quite happily and is available to Excel, the data from the drop down form field arrives as a blank (probably an unprintable) and not the selected item from the dropdown. How can I get the selected item from the list into a variable in order to pass it properly into Excel? There is probably a really simple solution, but it escapes me. Incidentally, I would prefer to keep the drop down box - the contents change and this is a really simple way for a naive user to maintain the lists within the template form. My problem is that the function, GetPrivateProfileString32, strips out all code it thinks is extraneous from the end of the string I'm reading from the ini file.     - Unable to save using SaveAs Initially it may seem i am posting to a wrong group, but I am convined I am not. I know the problem is coming from VBA's SaveAs. This is what I am trying to do: I am writing a resume-generating program which I want to use to respond to different jobs. For example, let's say there are 5 jobs. I want to save the resumes using a name such as Adenigba Smart's Resume.doc. Here is a code that I used. I used Foxpro to drive Word (it is part of a larger program). ... ENDSCAN For those that are not familiar with foxpro, I am sure you will be able to follow thru. It simply gives a name to the document based on applicant's name. The first time thru, it works OK, but after this it fails. The problem occurs in the THIS.oWordoc.SaveAs(by the way, it simply calls VBA's SaveAs). It returns the error message: OLE IDispatch exception code 0 from Microsoft Word: This file is read-only and will not overwrite it. I tried to delete the file using Foxpro's DELETE FILE. It failed. Since it contained of being read only, i tried to change the read only status by using FileSystemObject (FSO ) to change to normal before deleting, but did not work (by the way, I used Explorer to examine it, but it was not read-only). Since this code always work the first time, I also try shutting down Word and re-starting, it also failed. Please thus anybody out there know how to do this seemingly simply task. There is a coding error in one of the subs in that document, probably in
AutoOpen or Document_Open.
