    - Trigger the Properties Dialog box on open This is slightly different than some of the other questions on the group. We are developing a template for drafting over 2000 instruction documents. Since most of our user base have never correctly used templates and we want the flow to be as smooth as possible; we are putting as much repetitive information into properties as we can. Of course, we will instruct them on our to use the template; but judging from past experience.... We thought if we opened the properties dialog box for them when they opened the template it would increase our odds that they will use it. Our problem is that while recording the macro, we have to close the dialog box before stopping the recorder and then it has nothing written to it when we do.     - hyperlink I need to insert a hyperlink in a file that will kick off a macro. What I did was create a template (startmacro.dot) with this code: sub autoopen() Documents.Add Template:="mytemplate.dot" end sub The hyperlink simply opens the startmacro.dot, which creates a new file basing it on the mytemplate.dot template. The "mytemplate.dot" template contains an autonew macro which executes my code. This all works fine. What I have been unsuccessful with is closing the original template (startmacro.dot). I would like to return to the original location (if desired) through the use of a hot key. I prefer not to set up bookmarks of any kind.     - Tabstrip tabs disappear On my userform (a substantial one), I have a tabstrip. There are also several frames located on the form which are nested within a larger overall frame for the userform. I have had lots of problems with the tabs disappearing when I click on other elements of the form in design view. I thought it was simply a matter of bringing forward or sending backward but that doesn't bring the tabs back into view. This is a tab setup and not a multi-page because so many elements are common to each tab. Please advise me how I can keep better control of what I am able to view and work on without losing view of my tabstrip (especially).     - Footnote gets some trash characters in front of it. Hi all, I have a document template which is protected for forms, but in order to let users apply headers and footers and footnotes I've added a macro to allow them to switch on/off the document protection. This works fine for the headers & footers, but for some reason the footnote option in the dropdown menus is greyed out. With "CTRL-ALT-f" I can still add a footnote though. But when I do this I get a line at the bottom of the document underneath which I can type the footnote (so far so good) and in front of that line some random characters seem to apear (on my machine it's always 2/2/2/2//2/2, other users get different strings though). The superscripted numbers of the footnote do appear normal in the main document and at the bottom and the footnote can be added normally. The trashy chars are also visible on the print preview Does anyone have an idea what's going wrong here? Can I get the footnotes option in the menus available again?     - normal.dot template becomes huge I'm having a problem with my normal.dot becoming enormous after I run a macro. This macro has a lot going on, but nothing that obviously would affect my normal.dot file. It basically goes through a folder, opens a bunch of files one at a time (about 70 or 80 files in all), looks for bookmarks with certain things in their names, and copies and pastes the text in those bookmarks into another document. I have a couple suspicions of what might be going on, but not sure how to prevent or fix these problems. First, each one of these files that the macro is opening has their own attached dot file with some special menus in them. (Those are the menus that were used to set these bookmarks to begin with.) These dot files are NOT global templates, but rather are just attached to those documents. I have a suspicion that perhaps somehow opening a file with an attached template might somehow cause your normal.dot template to be modified also. Any insight? Alternatively, I wonder if there is something to do with style definitions. All of these files that I am opening were received from different parties, and a lot of them have their own special style definitions. I know I have had major headaches before with people's styles somehow migrating into my computer. Could it be that every new style in each of these documents I am opening gets added to my normal.dot? My normal.dot files starts out at 488k, and ends up at about 4 MB after I run this macro a couple times. At that point, my computer (a rather powerful new type of computer) becomes completely bogged down, and extremely slow.     - PLEASE HELP!! Macros keep stopping, no errors I sure hope someone can shed some light on this! One and only one user in our office has a problem running macros. Supposedly, all our computers had the same image at set up, with the same OS (Win XP) and the same version of Office (2002) with the same DLLs. I am the designated "macro guru" (which only means I know Alt+F11 and I'm not afraid to play there!), so I get called over for any problems. Any of the rest of us can run a macro with no problems (other than my coding errors). She runs the same macro and gets "Code execution has been interrupted" several times. Hit "Debug" and F5 and the macro continues until it stops again. Never an error - just "interrupted". And the macro stops on things like: "End If", "Loop Until ", and so forth. This last time, the macro was trying to process about 1500 files, and stopped 4 or 5 times on each file! Where do I start to look for the problem? Memory? An options setting? Something else?     - Security settings and Word forms I think I am getting a better understanding of the security issues related to Word forms. Would like to know if I have it correct, tho. I plan to email a .doc file as an attachment that will be a Word form to collect survey info. I will be using basic form fields for most of the questions, tho to make checkboxes behave as option boxes, I will have some vba code in the on enter property of checkboxes. Will not use any acitvex or toolbox controls. As I understand it, this .doc form should get thru and behave as designed provided they do not have their security settings set high. If the recipients do have a high setting, the on enter code for the checkboxes will prevent the form from running. I am not clear on what would actually happen when they attempt to open the form in Word and whether the file itself would be stripeed of the on enter code when opened, or if they would just receive a warning or both. Does this all sound correct, and can anyone tell me what would happen with the Word file if their security is set high. Is there a way for me to still help them to run the Word form even if their security is set to high and how would I need to do that? Or would I need to nstruct them to set their securty to medium temporarily so they can complete the form and email it back?     - Can't load CustomXMLParts since Technical Refresh Hi! I'm working on a data export function from our software into Word2k7, using CustomXMLParts therefore to save the Data to docx and a COM-AddIn to step through the single DataSets. Everything worked pretty fine until i updated to the Technical Refresh. Now i can't get the CustomXMLParts out of the docx anymore. I checked the unzipped docx files and they are alright - they got the correct GUID, but when i call for: Office.CustomXMLPart customXML = _Doc.CustomXMLParts.SelectByID(MYGUID); it returns null - but that's only since the technical refresh! Did they change anything concerning this?     - Hooking controls Is the following possible? I have a 3rd party template that comes with a product, call it XYZ. As usual, the code appears to be sloppily written and causes the document to be unnecessarily dirtied. The project is protected. Usually, using the usual techniques, I can peek at the code and determine whether I can get around this by patching my Auto macros. In this case, there appears to be NO code in the protected template, so I guess there's a hook to code in an add-in for each control on the menu. and corresponding toolbar. I was thinking of the following general fix. Say, a control has an OnAction that uses "TheirMacro". I was thinking of adding my own TheirMacro, which would: 1. First, save the dirty status of the document. 2. Invoke XYZ's TheirMacro. 3. Reset the dirty status of the document, if needed.     - Question about dlls needed for Word and VB In my VB application I just added the capability of writing to a Word document. I have a reference to Office11\msword.old in the project. My client is using Office XP. On my machine, everything works fine. When I install the latest version of the EXE using this new feature on the client's machine, it crashes saying "ActiveX component can't create object". It occurs at the line, Set MyWord = New Word.Application So I surmise the problem is because they are running a different version of Word and have different libraries. What files do I need to give them so that they can use the feature of hooking up with Word? Do I need to have them upgrade to the same version of Office I am using? Or is it a simple matter of copying a few dlls/olb files and registering them on their machines? When I look at Depends that comes with Enterprise, I don't even see the references to the Office Dlls.     - Control Toolbox vs. Formfield Toolbar I am kind of new at this, but have a very basic question, I think. Word has a Control Toolbox, which includes text box, etc. It also has a form field toolbar, which also includes a text box. It is not clear to me why you would use the text box from the Control Toolbox instead of the text box from the formfield toolbar. Could someone explain. In particular, I am interested in using the Option Button in the Control Toolbox in a survey form since there is not a comparable control in the formfield toolbar. I have seen articles from MVP on making a formfield checkbox act like an option button, but was wondering why not just use the Control Toolbox option button instead?     - track changes issue for styleRef in Header while protection is ON Hi everyone, Having some issues where every revision generates a new value for the the styleref here are the relevant info: - we have a StyleRef field in the document Header (say { STYLEREF "Heading 1" } or that with (\* MERGEFORMAT) will still yield the same issue) - a text (ie. Test) with style = Heading 1 - a bookmark wrapping the text above (Test) i) turn protection on but sets the bookmark range as editable (usually indicated by a yellow highlight) ii) have some codes to turn track changes on after turning protection ON (using C#-VSTO or VBA - either of which would still produce the issue) Set focus to the bookmark and made some changes. Notice that for every change/keystroke in the reference text, a new value is generated in associated Header field. Normally, track changes button and menu item is disabled once protection is off that suggests that working with track changes while protection is something fishy but as Word allows conditional protection it should not have been a problem. I was thinking of using Locked property of the styleref field but it has another issue of ignoring the strikethroughs when the field value is updated. This means I have to stop the code from running until the current printing is finished. When the current printing is finished I need to load new paper and then restart the code.     - Macro used to print...? Howdy, I had a macro (Word 2000 SP3) that worked properly under Win 2000 Pro. Now, under Win XP, it behaves differently. Formerly, it did a merge, and printed the result. Now, instead, it does the merge, and opens the Print Dialog. There it stays until I click "OK" to print. I had tried SendKeys "~" but with no luck. Originally, I had created the macro by recording, and then tweaking. With the help of a kind person on another group, I stripped out the extraneous stuff that the recorded generates to get the code just below.     - Dynamic Array - Combo Box I am creating a user form with combo selection boxes. One of my combo boxes has a selection that is greater than the 25 items so I created a dynamic array with using VB for the info lookup. So when the using goes to this combo box it opens up a VB userform that has 3 combo boxes on it. The array has 4 columns (column 1 = index number, column 2 = Port, column 3 = Crossing, column 4 = Terminal) and 650 rows. I have it set up so when I select the Port "Atlanta" it shows in the next combo box only the crossings associated with "Atlanta" say "Charleston" and then the third Combo box only shows the terminals assoicated with "Charleston". Each combo box shows the appropriate associated info, but my problem is that it also shows blank lines where other info would normally be in the array. Is there a way to say not to show those blank lines? Or should I set up my array differently? macro automatically when it opens a document containing that macro. Any
suggestions on how to do that?
