    - Text out of text box Periodically I copy text in a text box from another program to a Word doc.     - tables in tables very slow I'm generating a document in VBA that reads data from a database and then creates a document. I have 5-6 levels of nested tables necessary to format the data. The resultant document is about 100 pages. The generation of the document and formatting of the tables takes 9+ hours to complete on a P4/512MB. Needless to say this will not be acceptable. When I single step thru some of the formatting commands (like setting up borders and bolding text) I can see it takes several seconds for each command. What can I do to improve speed?     - Suppress Fillin field prompt in vbscript I've got a vbscript that recursively searches for and prints documents in a directory to file. When it stumbles across a document with a fillin field prompt, the vbscript stops until I can hit ok. Is there a way to suppress this prompt? If not, is there a way to automatically hit OK when the prompt comes up?     - wdDoNotSaveChanges doesn't work after saving in other format? Hello, This is a question about VBA in Word 2002. The problem involves the use of wdDoNotSaveChanges when closing a file. This seems to be the subject of lots of discussions online, because many people seem to have trouble making it work, and none of the solutions I've found seem to help. The problem seems to be this: If I save a file in WinWord 2.0 format, and then try to close the file, Word will always prompt me to ask whether I want to save the file. Nothing I've tried (see the commented lines below) seems to prevent the prompt from appearing; the only workaround I've found is to use SendKeys to say No when prompted, which of course is not exactly elegant.     - TOC Placement Hi, I have a procedure (see below) which inserts a table of contents relative to the section. This procedure works wonderfully however the placement of the section contents table is not correct, I would like the table to be inserted under the heading not at the top of the section.     - movenext command in ADO connection Hi- I have a Word97 macro which uses an ADO connection. (icrs.Open cmd, , , adLockBatchOptimistic) The MoveNext command doesn't work. I can move next, but the data is as if it all came from the 1st record in the recordset. (I know that there are 6 records, and I can "count" them in a Do While Not icrs.BOF loop with a MoveNext command inside. I just can't see the data.) I even downloaded MDAC2.8 .     - How to distribute VBA-Code Hello! My question is how do I distribute VBA projects to our users' computers, so that I can call the subs/functions that come with that project? The background is we have close to 100 different templates, most of them use VBA code. Now quite a few of these templates use identical sub routines (i.e. a sub that reads from a certain text file). I thought it would be helpful to have a pool of common subs/functions instead of copying one and the same code to all templates. I tried using add-ins or putting a template into the startup folder, but that doesn't work unless you set a reference to the template containing the code.     - Word Table and Page Break I wrote a macro that looks at a column in a word table. Starting at the bottom of the table, it looks at each of the cells and if the cell matches the one above it, it removes the lower cell and continues. My problem is that the table breaks between page one and two and when the macro runs, it automatically deletes all items in the third row down on the second page. They do not match any other rows and it will delete them regardless of what they say. If I lengthen the page so that the entire table fits on one page, the macro works great, so I am assuming that it is the page break in the table the causes the problem. I did add 'Application.ScreenUpdating = False' but this only caused it to delete the second instead of the third line.     - How to use the organiser programatically Hi Folks, I have a series of templates and wizards that I wish to be able to re-create with options on a userform. Ideally I'd like to be able to create styles and toolbars programatically but I'm told this can't be done (if it can be please let me know :-) ). So what I'd like to do is write some code which can find my templates and copy the styles, toolbars and modules/userforms to a new version of the template. I think the organiser can be accessed using VBA but I'm not sure about importing modules and forms.     - Automation: Inserting HTML text into Word 2000 I'm using Word 2000 to produce an output document from a VB application. I'm fine inserting text, images etc at bookmarks within a Word template file, but when I insert text which contains HTML tags, these are inserted as plain text rather than HTML. For instance you end up seeing "<B>Bold Here</B>" rather than just a bolded formatting of the words "Bold Here" Word 2000 can obviously handle HTML, because if you paste in text copied from a browser, you get it rendered as HTML rather than plain text.     - Word Automation: instance running, but can't use it? I have an Access 2000 app were a user may open Word docs, the path to the doc being stored in the db. I have this problem were if I open a word doc via code, and the user then closes word, the next time the user requests a word doc, it doesn't fly. An instance of Word *is* created, you can see it in task manager (only one instance). There is no Word instance in the period between the first and second request. What am I doing wrong? Why doesn't the code below utilize this running instance of Word (word 2002)? Some of this code comes from the Access Web, I'll not include the call that tests for a running instace of word (fIsAppRunning()), it works fine. The error that appears is error 462 "The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable". Yet, word is running. It opens, without loading the specified doc.     - Counting Characters automatically Hello Developers Is there a way in MS-Word 97 and up to count the number of characters automatically in real time as they are being typed. For example: If I have a document that must be 2000 characters long, I would like to count the characters so that when the user gets to 1990, I start flashing messages for the user to stop typing soon before the text becomes longer than 2000 characters. I am hoping to be able to have this happen dynamically as the user types, vs having the user hit a button to fire a macro and then the count will come out. If any 2 applications try and launch word you get an error to save normal.dot. For instance Outlook launches winword. If you have word as your default mail editor. Copy all of a document (including headers and footnotes, etc.) into an untitled blank document in a separate window. (This part is easy Ctrl-A, Ctrl-N, Ctrl-V does the job, producing this code: Selection.WholeStory Selection.Copy Documents.Add DocumentType:=wdNewBlankDocument Selection.PasteAndFormat (wdPasteDefault) 2. Make some changes in the untitled copy of the original document and ask the user to approve the modified version. 3. Select and copy all of the changed untitled copy, close the untitled document, and paste the changed version over the orginal document, replacing the original copy. Unfortunately, when I do this, only the main story in the original document is replaced; the modified versions of the headers and footers and footnotes are not changed.     - Word 95 Macfile question Hi all, we are having a problem with a Mac file under word 95. On a system running win95 with office 95 (Serverbased install) the file works just fine. On a workstation running NT4.0 with office 95 (serverbased install) the same mac file fails to load as add in.     - Find invisible symbol fields in WP files imported in Word 2002? I'll be very grateful for any help with this frustrating problem that involves a special kind field in Word 2002 that is normally invisible - and that can't be revealed by any combination of the F9 key. This problem does not seem to occur with versions earlier or later than Word 2002 (XP) When you import a WordPerfect 5.x file into Word 2002, and the original file contains typographic symbols like curly quotation marks or dashes, Word 2002 does NOT convert the symbol into the equivalent native character in the current font, but instead creates an invisible field that takes the place of the original symbol. For the em-dash, for example, something that looks like an em-dash appears on screen and on the page, but it's not the same as Word's em-dash character; it's really a field, although nothing on screen shows that it's a field. So, if the original WP document contains an em-dash, you can't search and replace the em-dash in Word by entering ^+ in the search field (by using Find/More/Special), as you can to search for a real em-dash - and as far as I can tell, you can't search for the WP-imported em-dash at all. And you can't search for the invisible field by entering ^d either. If you copy the imported em-dash from the text and paste it into the Find field, you get an upper-case C, which doesn't help at all. You can't reveal these fields by using any combination of the F9 keys, but I found that you can see them by saving the file in WinWord 2.0 format and reopening it in Word 2002. (CrossEyes from www.levitjames.com also displays the fields.) At this point, you can see that (for example) a quotation mark imported from WP is really a field that looks like this: {symbol 65\f "WP Typographic Symbols"\s 12} But you can't search for this field by using "^d symbol" in the Find dialog. You CAN search them if you add a space after the opening brace and before the closing brace, but I can't find a way to add those spaces automatically. Question: is there a way to use VBA to find these fields and replace these hidden fields with the native Windows characters? I'd like to have a macro that will replace invisible fields containging quotation marks, section marks, paragraph marks, em and en dashes when a WP file is opened in Word 2002.     - Single and double data types Hi I have a theoretical question on this subject but I'm naff at maths so don't laugh. From a book, I can see that the lower and upper limits of a single data type is -3.402823E38 to - 1.401298E-45 for negative values 1.401298E-45 to 3.402823E38 for positive values I don't even know how to do calculations with exponents on my computer to check for myself but what I'd like to know is a How do - exponents work eg 10 to the power of 2 = 100 10 to the power of -2 = ? b Do the limits of a single or double data type leave a 'gap' in between? ie A short data type (-32,768 to 32767) can clearly handle any figure in between but this isn't so clear for me with regards to floating point data types where there seems to be a gap. We have automated a complex sales process: ROI to the point that a large sales force can get by with only one user liscense. I am attempting to account for all of the true users of the documents. One solution would be to create a vba application that the user must sign into before opening the document. The sign in data gets validated against a web database server.     - Line feed in wdDialogFileSummaryInfo.Title field? I'm building a template for documentation. I'm using a tree control on a user form to allow the user to select from a list of products. I'm storing the product name in the Title field. I'm using the contents of the Title field for the title on the cover page of documents based on my template. Sometimes the text I have to put there is too long for the available space and the line wraps. I want to be able to control the point where the line wraps. For example, rather than having something like: "Product Family Product Variation Name" I need to have: "Product Family Product Variation Name" Right now I'm populating the tree control from an extensive collection of Add statements but I wrote those before I realized the line wrapping would be problematic. The tree control doesn't care about line wrapping... it just puts horizontal scroll bars in place to allow me to see the whole text string. So now, I've got the text that I want to use in a spreadsheet in two columns... Line One and Line Two. What I figure I'm going to have to do is examine the contents of the Line Two column and if there's text there, I want a line break before it. I wouldn't mind being able to populate the tree control out of the same spreadsheet file but that's not a dealbreaker. So what's the best approach I can take to make this happen? Do I need to abandon the concept of using the Title field? Is it possible to both populate the tree control (without line breaks) and create the value to insert in the Title field (with line breaks) from the same spreadsheet?     - Pausing Macro, Returning to Pause Point I am working on automating a document compilation task. The number of potential documents to be included in the single document number in the hundreds, and eventually each document will be automated as well before inclusion in the final compilated document. It is unlikely a user would be able to complete the process in a single sitting, both because of the number of documents involved but also because the user may not have all of the information needed to complete the task and may have to look something up. On a userform, I would like to be able to give the user the option to quit and return to the project later where they left off. Basically, I have one userform where the user selects the documents to be included in the project. When the user selects "OK", the documents selected begin compiling. When a document is reached that is automated, a userform for that document appears, the user makes the appropriate selections and that document is then added. The process continues when the user closes the userform until the last document selected has been added. I can save the values of the userform so that if the user quits he can return to the userform with the values he selected saved. The problem is that if a user quits, he quits in the middle of a macro that is running. Is it possible to not only return the values entered on the userform, but to also be able return to the point in the macro where the macro quit running when the user quit? First just recorded a macro of inserting a frame, but then I was unable to record the steps for selectiong and altering the size and fill color.
