    - fields.update in macro does not update TOC My template has a TOC and at the end of my AutoNew macro I have included the statement ActiveDocument.Fields.Update, because the TOC includes some text (headings) that contain text inserted with the AutoNew macro. The problem is that the text apparently is not updated in the TOC. One heading contains the name of a person ("Personal objectives for Peter") - this name is inserted during AutoNew - but the TOC only shows "Personal objectives for ". If I update the fields manually (rightclicking TOC, choosing Update field and Update evreything) the TOC is OK - so I thought the problem might be related to some missing parameter for the ActiveDocument.Fields.Update statement, but I can't see any possible parameters.     - Find text & Replace entire paragraph Hi there, I wonder if anyone out there could help me? I need to do a find & replace text in documents via a macro. The text may appear any number of times in a given doc but its not just *that* text that needs replacing - its the entire paragraph . The pseudo code would look something like this I guess...     - Testing for ansi 0145 and ansi 0146 in selection Dear all, 1) I'm looking for a way to test whether the ansi-0145 and/or ansi-0146 (curly quotes ` and ') are present in a selection. Does anyone know a method to tackle this problem? I do know how to evaluate a selection character by character, so that's not the problem. I tried the "asc" function, but that doesn't do the trick. 2) And I also would like to find a way to insert text containing these ansi characters using VBA code.     - Hide styles In a specific template users should not be able to apply the default styles to the text. I would like to hide the default styles so that only custom styles are visible.     - Find and Replace crash when installing Office Security Patch kb830349 Hi, I am doing Find and Replace in MS Word from VB Code. It was working fine till I installed Office Patch(kb 830349). There is a piece of code in which I am doing find and replace in my document, actually replacing some text in the document with a link object.     - StyleRef in following pages Template used Heading 1 style at start of new part of report. Heading 1 has "page break before" so it is always at the top of page. Report part may be one or many pages. I need to create a page header that is -- blank on the page containing a Heading 1 style entry; but on later pages the header is "[heading1 text] continued.." So far as I can see a {StyleRef "Heading 1"} entry will put the [heading text] on every page, but I need to supress it on the first page, and display it (plus the "continued..") on subsequent pages.     - Removing a custom commandbar Hi, I have added a few custom commandbars in Word, but not matter what I do they keep coming back. I have tried deleting using the Customize window and it deletes until I load Word again. I have also tried deleting via VBA and the same happens. The code I used to create is on a different Doc.     - Trouble installing ADO reference library Trying to install the ADO reference library in Word (2000 to 2003), but there are some problems with this. One of them is that variables can't be declared as ADO objects if this is not installed, causing the error: compile error: User-defined type not defined So this can't work: Public ADOConn As ADODB.Connection I can declare as variant and then do: Set ADOConn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") rather than Set ADOConn = New ADODB.Connection But then for some reason ADO doesn't install. I just can't figure this out and wonder what the best way is to approach this.     - Metafile Problem Word 2003/VB6 The following code places an EMF onto the clipboard and when pasted into a Word 97 or Word 2000 document, displays a yellow square surrounded by a blue border.     - Why won't my switch-language key setting (Ctrl-Shift) work in Word My language switch key key (Shift-Ctrl) has stopped working in Word2002. It works in other apps. I had added a bunch of macros to normal.dot. But even when I removed them, the language-key switcher is still dead in word. Suspected a textbridge add-in (tbrun9.dot), but removing it didn't help. Hi, I've written a VBA script (for Microsoft Word 2000 on the PC) that highlights the current paragraph, then breaks it up into sentences that are separated by paragraph marks. Now the author can analyze the structure of the writing, and move the sentences around. The script adds double paragraph marks after "." "!" "?" and ";". Afterwards, it also removes the new, unnecessary paragraph marks after "Mr." "Ms." "Mrs." "a.m." and "p.m." However, it doesn't fix other abbreviations.     - Merge many Word documents using a Excel macro I have created a macro that uses an Excel spreadsheet to merge many Excel files together. The spreadsheet has file name and location information. I want to do the same for many Word documants. Currently I have a Word macro that simply creates a new word document then just adds and formats all the required documents. What I want to do is add another tab on the Excel spreadsheet and have all of the file name and location information for the Word documents there and have Excel create the Word document. I have taken some code from another post and it seems to almost work...     - Ignore All (spell check) on words with curly quotes In Word 2000 and Word XP, when I check the spelling of a document that contains curly quotes, words that contain an apostrophe are not included in the Ignore All list when I click a misspelled word in the text and select the Ignore All option. (The curly quotes are formed by the AutoFormat As You Type option for replacing "Straight Quotes" with "Smart Quotes"). Example: What was Bwa'ana looking for? In this example, Bwa'ana is considered two words, Bwa and ana. Now if I use only straight quotes, Bwa'ana is considered a single word, which is included in the Ignore All list. So now comes my question: Is there a way to have Word 2000 and XP include words with curly quotes in the middle into the Ignore All list (or in a custom dictionary, for that matter) as a single word?     - Locating specific range points Here's my requirement: I have to find specific text located in various places in a document. Once I identify the location of a spceific character (ASCII 167 in this case), I need to locate the VERY NEXT ")" character. My selected range must start at the 167-char, and end at the ")" char. I then need to replace the text in that range with a hotlink (easy enough to do). What I need to know is: 1) How to identify the absolute character position of the first & last character, and set the RANGE to those values 2) Is there a different way to do that? If so, how?     - Document_Open() I have looked through and followed (to the best of my ability) the instructions on the MVP web site regarding having macros run when a document is opened based on a specific template. Let me explain what I need to do: I need a DOS (yes DOS) based application to: 1. Open Word. 2. Launch a template. 3. Run a mail merge macro. 4. Print the results. 5. Close Word. I have accomplished 1 and 2 by envoking Word from a command line using the /t switch to open a new document based on a specific template. I have accomplished 3, 4, and 5 in a macro. The problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to get 3, 4, and 5 to happen automatically when a new document is opened based on the template. I have tried using the Document_Open() procedure. However, I can only get it to work when I open the template, not when a new document is created based on the template. What am I missing? Thank bunches in advance for your help.     - Validation of text of bookmark entries Hello, I am using VBA for Word to validate whether a report Word Doc is fine. For this, I scan through the doc for certain bookmarks. If the bookmarks are not present at all, it is a major problem and I signal error and return. If the bookmarks are present, I would like to read the text soon after the bookmark and check if it is not empty. That is all. But I am not able to do this. Can anyone point me how to do this?     - Saving to Mac text I need, for production reasons, to save from Word 2003 to Western European (Mac)text format. This is possible from the Save As dialogue box but I cannot figure a way of doing it in a macro. If I simply record the macro it records the SAVEAS format:= as straight Windows text, which produces the wrong quote and double-quote symbols on the Mac. The Visual Basic Help is unhelpful on the point as it simply says the formats are listed in the SaveAs menu, and these are useless for the format:= "xxxx" line.     - Return the frame anchored to a given paragraph Is there a way in VBA to return the (first/only) frame anchored to a given paragraph? I was hoping the Frame object had an Anchor property like a Shape does. Of course, it doesn't. The code that follows that statement (the MsgBox and Close) don't execute. If I then tell Word to save and close the document, when I reopen the doc, Word immediately asks if I want to save it. If I say yes, it closes the doc. If I say no, it closes the doc. If I cancel, I get an error 4198. Whew! I think I'm screwing VBA's state and clearly I'm messing up the document..     - "trigger macro on exit" for text boxes & radio buttons I have constructed a form that has 8 alternatives: 4 radio buttons (i.e., insert row above or below, or insert column to the right or to the left); & 4 text boxes (i.e., insert (how many) rows above or below, & insert (how many) columns to the rigth or left, And an OK button and a Cancel button. I can't figure out how to set the radio buttons (& the text boxes) so that choosing one radio button (or inserting a 1 or 2 digit number in a text box) will grey out & assign null values (or something like that) to any buttons (or text boxes) that previously contained values. Drop-down form fields have options that allow the user to trigger a macro on exit. I wish that text boxes and radio buttons had such an option, because I would use the "trigger macro on exit" to somehow grey out & assign null values (or something like that) to any buttons (or text boxes) that previously contained values.     - Thrown against the wall (Will it stick?) Hi All, This is a bit long winded, so please stay with me. I recently became interested in making the return key funtion to advance between protected formfields. I found KB article 211219 which offered a plausible solution. However, the article specifically state that if other bookmarks or if fillin disabled formfields were used that additional code may be required. Things continued to work reasonably well during testing even after I inserted a few additional bookmarks and a few fillin disabled formfields. The enter key would cause the insertion point to jump to the next form field or if in the last form field, it would jump back to the first formfield. The only clich was that the first field following any fillin disabled field would not be "highlighted." The TAB key will cycle to and highlight each field, the Enter key would cycle each field and and highlight each field expect for fields following a fillin disbled field. I could figure out why these fields wouldn't highlight. I have very limited VBA knowledge, but I tried everything I could think of to reevaluate that field and expand the selection over the field range. Nothing would work. I even created another macro to run on entry to these specific fields and then select it. I was really baffled when the on entry macro had no effect but would work like a charm if ran manually. Finally it dawne on me that it could be a timing issue. I had previosly stashed away a snippet of code for causing a macor to "doze." for a bit. I think it was either Peter Hewett that posted it here earlier. I applied his Declaration statement, the Doze macro and called it in my code below. It appears a simple 1 ms pause was all I needed to identify the current field and select it. Now all formfields are selected and highlighted regardless of their location or the presence of fillin disabled fields. Here is my code.     - Paste Button default option When the paste button is turned on and an item is copied/pasted, the little paste button pops up. Then I can right click on it and choose an option. The "default" option is "keep source formating." Is there a way to make the options always to be set at "match destination formatting"? I know that an item cut and pasted can easily be changed by clicking the paste button and then clicking "match destination formatting," but it would be easier/quicker if somehow I could change the default to "match destination formatting" and thus eliminate the need to ever have to click the paste button and then choose the "match destination" button.
