In my document I have setup my Headings as follows:

1.0 Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
a. Heading 3

Is there a way to write a macro that will change how Heading 3 is displays
so when I start going through the alphabet a second time it displays it as:
aa, ab, ac instead of: aa, bb, cc?

You can use fields for that type of numbering. See
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/NbrFAQ.htm#XLTypeNr.

Thank you for responding Stefan. I am not sure how to replace my Heading 3
numbering with the field shown in the link on your reply. Do I do that in
formating and styles under my numbering outline or is it something I have to
do after Heading 3 is created?

You would have to remove the autonumbering from Heading 3/level 3 and
then add the fields directly to text.

Often, the easiest way to add the field delimiters, {}, is pressing
Ctrl+F9. Then you could just type the field codes in. For more, see
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/mergfaq.htm#Fieldcodes.
