    - InsertSymbol inserts symbol as formated text the first time Hi, I have a problem with InsertSymbol that I have seen nowhere else. I need to insert a character from a symbol font and want it to have symbol behaviour, i.e. if I mark a range containing the character afterwards and select another font, the symbol character won't change. This might sound simple and I thought it was, but generally it doesn't work the first few times... In a fresh Word application I use the code below to insert a symbol character with some other symbol font than Symbol and the first and sometimes first few character will be wrong: Sub InsertWayPointerSymbol() Dim rng As Range Dim i As Long Set rng = Selection.Range.Duplicate For i = 0 To 30 rng.InsertSymbol AscW("n"), "Marlett" rng.MoveEnd wdCharacter rng.Font.Name = "Times New Roman" rng.Collapse wdCollapseEnd Next i End Sub I assume this has something to do with the font not being fully initialized before I start, but can I force it to be somehow? I tried simply inserting one character and removing it first, but the problem is I do not know how many times I need to fix it. On some users machines the problem occurs for a longer time. Would I be guaranteed that it will work if I add a style containing the symbol font to the template that is used? Or can I programmatically create a style or something to force the font to be initialized?     - Activating the Newly opened Document Hi All, I have the instance of Documents and i open up the new documents using Documents.Add method. When i open the first document, it comes in the foreground. But when i open the second one, the second one has to come infront. How can achive this?     - big mess!!help! I am in a real big mess. I just spent 4 days on a huge macro and I accidentally gave two textboxes the same name. When I ran the macro, I got a "DUplicate ~" error. I couldn't open the form and I saved the template and quit word. Now, when I try to open any macro from that template, word simply quits (the usual tell MS about this problem) box.     - Word VBA Performance and File Size We have a VBA app running on Word XP that just started to run much slower in our latest release. We didn't change anything in the VBA app that would account for this speed difference. The only thing we noticed is that the new file (a DOT) is much smaller than the old (faster) DOT file.     - Can Word 2003 save to multiple html files? I'm trying to create multiple html files from one Word document. I'd like to be able to save as Filtered HTML but with new auto generated html files per section (i.e. heading1 and heading2 and toc and index) and still retain hypertext links. Can this be done via Word 2003? If not, what tool or process do I need to use? What does Word use to isolate the toc and section info for that help popup?     - Centering an I have placed a graphic in my document, using "Insert -- Picture -- From File...",and am unable to adjust programatically its alignment on the page. In VBA, alignment options are not available for members of the InlineShapes collection. Even in the dialog insode of Word, though, it doesn't allow me to select alignment. All of those options are greyed out. Can anyone tell me how to use VBA to set the alignment to "Center" for a single graphic, not the text before or after it.     - Document_Close event / Document.Saved flag We have an application which uses Word through Automation as a text editor. The application is used with Word97, Word2000 and Word2002. We are currently testng to release it for Word2003. We have our own DOT file which handles saving the content of the document and have thus defined the Document_Close method. If the user selects the X (cross in upper right hand corner of applicatoin), the Document_Close is called, however at this point, the Saved flag of the current document has be set to True - even if it was False just prior to selecting the X. Does anyone know if there has been any changes in the handling of the Saved flag wrt Word2003 - or does anyone have any hints ? Thanks for any help.     - Convert MS-Word Documents to images I am using Office 2003 on Windows XP. I have several one page MS-Word documents saved as separate files. I would like to convert each of these to an image (e.g tif (preferred), jpg, png, or gif). The final image needs to include headers and footers. I would like to be able to do this using VBA.     - Hyperlinks in protected forms I followed the MVP site instructions for getting a hyperlink (MacroButton) to work in a protected form. In Word 2003, it works great. However, the hyperlinks are not active with previous of Word (i.e. 2000). Is there anything I can do to make the links (MacroButtons) works with the older versions?     - Changing Excel links inside Word Documents Hello, Currently the company I am working for has lots of Word documents with embedded Excel objects in them which were linked using Word's Edit->Paste Special. We recently switched to a new server so I am in the process of writing a script that will allow changing of these links to be trivial to our word processing department. I did a search and saw a lot of posts about this topic, but none that really hit the problem I'm having on the head. I am currently using a VB Script that simulates keypresses to show field codes, do a find replace on the location, and hide the field codes. The problem is after I have changed the links, I cannot update any of the links in the file by selecting the link and pressing F9. It just tells me that the object could not be found. Now the weird part is, after I have changed the link code to the new location and try to update the link, the link changes back to the old location! I'm just wondering if anyone has seen something like this before and whether or not there is a way to fix it. The link paths are all UNC paths, not mapped drive letters and I'm pretty sure the files are in Word 95/6.0 format, but we are currently using Office XP Small Business. I'm not sure if that's the problem but I am hoping there is a way to fix it.     - Plugin not working on some other machine hi! i have a plugin for MS Word. It is working on my machine very well, but when i try it on some other machine, it crashes the Word. And the data is 0,0,30,40 (each value in each cell) 3rd .. nth row, each width same as 1st row without data The problem which I face is, if I need to to put total in 5th row, {=sum(C1:C4) \#,###,###.00 \* MERGEFORMAT} the MSword will give out: 33 (3+30) instead of 43 (3+40) which I expected to have.     - Data Missing in wdDialogMailMergeRecipients hi everybody, i m doing word2003 automation through C# [Web Applications].i m using user dsn in .OpenDataSource [connection] property. data is selected using sqlstatement and is able to use where clause in the sqlstatement.     - how do I set advanced picture formatting properties? I have written a tool to manage pictures in documents. This includes formatting of pictures, so that users can set all the properties in a standardized way, by running a single macro (i.e. with a single mouse-click). I have this all working, but cannot access the Advanced properties. So we know which properties I am referring to, see the Format Picture dialog, Layout tab, Advanced button. I am mainly interested in the properties on the text Wrapping tab there, but these in the Picture Position tab would be nice too if I can access them. What's the best way to time-limit distributed templates (mostly Word but Excel and PPT also) so that they stop functioning on a certain date or after a period of time?     - Find function problems I am having trouble with the .find function in MSWord. The following code snippet is run from a user form button click event. If the built-in Find Box is open when the button is clicked, the code fails (that is, fails to find an occurence of 'styleX' that DOES exist) and the msgbox "Error" is displayed. If the built-in Find box is closed, the code works. If The find Box is open and I click the button on the userform twice, it fails the first time (but doesn't crash because the error is trapped) and works the second time. However, when going back to the document text, the arrow keys and all shortcut keys are disabled until the document is closed and reopened. Is there a way to get this to work with the find box left open? Or, less elegantly, is there a way in VBA to close the find box and reopen it after the code runs? And why does any of this disable the arrow and shortcut keys?     - Table Styles Hi, I was hoping if someone can guide me here. I am trying to format tables in my documents. I want a macro that runs through documents and searches for tables and if table found it applies Style: Normal, applies style "Title" to table caption found before the table and applies style "Title" to first row containing headings.     - Finding and replacing in Word using macros Hi there, You'll have to forgive me because I'm sure there is an incredibly simple answer to my question. However, I can't seem to figure it out. But instead of replacing with a specific word everytime I need to replace with a word which is different everytime and entered by the user (the location needs to be entered in each report separately).     - Text Boxes I have dug around the help files but have been unable to find any documentation on how to determine whether a paragraph or range contains a text box.     - Can I detect when a MacroButton text would span more than one line As suggested by the MVPS site I put my hyperlinks in macrobutton fields to be able to get an event whenever the user clicks it. This is done programmatically from an addin written in VB 6 and works fine. The only problem is when the inserted hyperlink is too long. I then get the text "DisplayText cannot span more than one line!" and I understand this, but is there a way to detect the condition either by testing the length before or detecting the error after it has happened?     - Unexpected empty lines when using MAcro to saveas document We export asci files from SAP/R3 and open them with a Word (XP SP3 English) macro like Documents.open export.txt In this file every record is on one line ended with CRLF (checked this with an hexeditor). But when we do nothing but saving (and implicit converting) the file using Activedocument.saves filename:="export.doc", fileformat:=wdFormatdocument SOMETIMES there is an unexpected empty line in export.doc, when it occurs it can be reproduced (I have an example) but when we first edit export.txt using notepad it sometimes dissapears and sometimes not. I think it's a bug or so, we need the conversion to Word format as we use this document as secondary merge file. We have isolated the problem to the saveas command in the macro when trying to do the same without macro (use file -> saveas) the problem does not occur.     - Date Problem using mail merge. I have specified in my Access database that I want my date format t be a medium date with the following layout 19-Mar-0 This would display fine and to the exact format in Access, but when pull it into a mail merge in Word, the format changes to: 3/19/0 Is there anyway that I can make it display like 19-Mar-04? Another problem I am having in access is I have a field called "Mus Use By:" where a user must manually enter a date on an item. The dat can be any time from now or till 2 years in advanced, How do I mak that field so that a user can manually enter that date easily? Not b having to type 16-Mar-04.     - Macro that Prompts user to print. Hey All. I have made a document that has 8 (eight) labels to ONE page. Th document is divided into 4 rows by 2 coloumns. Each label goes into cell of its own I have made 7 macros so that a user can choose to print any amount o labels from 1-8 by just pressing any of the short cut keys The first macro is shift+F7 which would delete one of the first label and then print the other 7 The second macro is shift+F6 which would delte the first two label and continue to print the other 6. And so on.. This is all well and good. If a user wants to print 8, he needs to d nothing but print the document as it is, because it is at default, labels The challenge lies where I want a user to get a prompt when they pres print, whcih would have a box appear and say "how many would you like to print? the user then could input the amount they wish to print and the macr automatically interprets that amount and prints that exact amount So if a user wanted to print 9 labels, it would print ONE full shee of 8 and then on another sheet, it shall only print 1 Is there anyone out there that can do this?     - autotext and tables I use a form to insert autotext into a doc. This particular autotext is in tabular format. My problem is that some of the rows when inserted will span multiple pages and the next row down will start after. (Which is a good thing) However some of the rows, when inserted will span multiple pages and then force a page break before the next row starts. I hope the above makes sense.
