    - Creating Auto Section Headers I use Word 2000 to create time lines of criminal investigation, which often exceed 50 pages in length. Because of the extensive detail in which each event is described, it is not uncommon for several pages in a row to be without a section heading. This results in reader often loosing track of where they are chronologically in the document. Therefore, I am trying to figure out a way to print the most recent Level 1 section heading, which is the date, as a header atop each page. This would allow the reader to see where they are at anytime, just as one can do by referencing the top of a page in a dictionary and seeing the first and last words listed on the page.     - How to identify 1st blank row in an Excel spreadsheet? Anyone know how to do this via VBA? I'm using a macro to define a print area by specifying columns but I'm pulling blank rows in the resulting printout. Is there a way to get Excel to ignore blank rows in a print area? In this case, the blanks are at the bottom of the spreadsheet so if I could tell me the last row containing data (or the first blank row), it would work.     - The Next Level Hi, I am applying some of my limited skills to create a macro that will tally checkboxes in a Table column. The following is working good.     - Table and Picture in Word Header Using VBA, I insert a file with tab delimited fields into a Word header and then use "ConvertToTable" and it works fine. Now I'd like to have a logo picture ABOVE the table but it keeps putting it INTO a cell of the table. It seems as though the table insists on taking up the entire space of the header no matter what I do. In VBA, How do you get a bmp logo to appear in the header above the header table???     - updatable link to MS Access field ? Hello, BRIEF DESCRIPTION: How can I insert in Word a 'dynamic' link to a particular field in an Access Database? LONG DESCRIPTION: We're faced with the following issue for a big documentation project. Basically, the project would consist of maintance documentation which would be stored in: - several hundreds of Word files, containing descriptions, removal procedures, etc. - an Access database containing (among other things) a table with 2 fields: ToolNumber and ToolDescription. In the Word documents, we would like to insert one or more tool numbers and tool descriptions, as retrieved from the database. For example, through some Word VBA form, the author would selected tool number "T103" and at the current position in his document this tool number "T103" and corresponding description "Torque wrench M=30 Nm" would be inserted. The problem is that we want this to be 'dynamic': if the description of the tool is changed in the Database, then the description should change in the Word document as well. Either upon opening of the Word document or after some kind of command (e.g. F9 or VBA macro, or ...) My idea is upon inserting in Word to put the tool number text and description text in a specific style (e.g. "ToolStyle") and write a Word VBA application that will: - scan the document for this style, - look up the toolnumber in the Access Database, - retrieve the (new) description, - and (if changed) replace the old description in Word. I'm not sure this is the best possible solution. Does anybody has some easier or/and more bulletproof or/and non-VBA solutions, that will do the job?     - Highlighting, then typing - AND IT DOESN't DELETE!!! Something mad has suddenly happened to my Word - when I highlight a bit of text, then type something else to go over it, it now keeps the highlighted bit.     - Section TOC Hi I am using Word XP. I would like to automate my procedure of inserting a table of contents relating to an individual section. Currently I highlight the section, name it as a boomark, insert a table of contents at the top of the section (underneath the heading)and then modify the field code to only look for data in the bookmark:-see below {TOC \h \z \t "Section Sub Heading,2" \b SectionTwo} Section Sub Heading is the name of my style I wish to be listed in my Section TOC. \b is the switch, followed by the name of the bookmark SectionTwo What I would like to be able to do is automate the whole procedure. Here is my idea, I would really appreciate some advice on whether you think this is a good way to go about it and also some advice on a couple of commands I have been unable to find information about. I have the code for finding the number of sections in my document, I will then loop through each section in the document highlighting each section and naming it as a boomark. I would like the name of the bookmark to be the number of the section (Section2,section7 etc..) How do I find out the number of the section I have highlighted?? I can then insert an extra paragraph after the first paragraph then insert a TOC. How is best to automate the insertion of a TOC and then add the switch \b followed by the name of the current section bookmark.     - Incrementing an invoice number every time the template is printed Hi all, I was wondering if someone could help me with the below problem I am having. I would like to create a template with an invoice number incrementing. I have the coding to do this via a macro that the invoice number increments every time you open the template. What I would like to do instead is after having created a bookmark for the invoice number, that every time I print the template (for example ... 20 pages), the invoice number increments, saves to the bookmarked area and to a text file. If I was to open and print the template again (for example ... another 20 pages) then the invoice number will continue to increment (I.e. 21, 22, 23 etc) from the previous time the template was opened.     - bookmark I'm using Visual Studio 6 to write a Visual Basic app that opens an existing word document template and makes a number of changes and additions to it. I'm having a difficult time in trying to, among other things, move the cursor (the insertion point) to the end of the file or to a bookmark. Here's the code: Set CurrentDoc = GetObject("C:\data\SSATemplate.doc") CurrentDoc.ActiveWindow.Visible = True ' Move cursor to a bookmark CurrentDoc.ActiveWindow.Selection.Goto What:=wdGToBookmark, Name:="PathDataStart" / Move cursor to the end of the document CurrentDoc.ActiveWindow.Selection.Endkey Unit:=wdStory, Extend:=wdMove The document opens with no problems but when I try to move the cursor to the bookmark (the only bookmark in the entire document), I get the error message: Error 5102: You entered multiple destinations for a page, line, footnote, endnote, or comment. When I try to move the cursor to the end of the document, I get the error message: Error 4102: Bad parameter I've tried everything I can think of to fix the problem, to no avail.     - How to prevent editing on a merged document based on a dot templa Does anyone know how to prevent the user from editing a merged document created by an application? We use a dot net application to create a mail merge and when the user chose so can view the merged document with all the bookmarks populated with appropriate data. The user does not want to be able to edit the merge document. Is there any way to control that through the word object model in dot net or through IE? After the document is composed it is displayed to the user through a browser redirection. So if we can't disable editing in Word can we do in Internet Explorer?     - Win/Word XP *always* asks for Enable - any help? Ever since I was "upgraded" to Windows XP Pro and Word XP, I've tried unsuccessfully to get Word to recognize my macros on opening. I can not get a digital signature to stick. I've tried various methods from this NG and the KB, but no go. Besides just wanting to hit a custom button without having to enable macros, this really hampers automating from VB6. Any code trying to open Word for the first time gets hit with the Enable Macros box. If I have to be there to hit Enable, I've defeated half my automation! Any suggestions? Ed Tag: Forms Tag: 54074

    - Problem with SendKeys and first Capital letter Hi when usign sendkeys in my vba programs I often run into ptoblem that the first capital letter that sendkeys types comes out twice. I suspected many things but my best guess it's somethign to do with AS YOU TYPE options that auto correct soem thigns, since mimics user typing. However I have not been able to find the actual option responsible for this. Has anyone else had simular problem?     - Using VB.Net or C#, utilizing the clipboard object, how to copy an MS Excel graphic from the clipboard to an image control and obtain its source reference Hello, Here is what I'm trying to do: -- Make sure both MS Excel and MS Word are running -- Create an Excel chart -- Save the Excel file -- Copy the Excel chart onto the clipboard using Ctrl + C -- Go to Word and look under Edit > Paste Special -- Note there is a source reference and an option to paste the chart as a metafile, etc. -- I would like to take this same information and make it available in a C# or VB.Net app For example, create a simple Windows application with a userform, an image control, a label and a single command button. Let's say that after the Excel chart is on the clipboard, one clicks the Windows application command button and Voila!, the imate control now contains a copy of the Excel chart and the label contains the reference information. I can make this work utilizing older technologies (i.e. WIN API to access the clipboard, etc.). Using the WIN32 API, there is a clipboard format called "OwnerLink". Similarly to the .Net clipboard, one would register this format, check for it on the clipboard and then retrieve using several API calls. There are also clipboard formats called "Link Descriptor" and "Object Descriptor" under WIN32. It appears that, under .Net, there are currently no methods or properties available to extract a source reference when a user places an Office object / graphic on the clipboard.     - Referencing Macros Hi All, Basically my problem is this - I have created a mail merge document from an access database and want to date stamp the records each time they are printed from the mail merge (i.e. some printed one day and stamped with that date, others on another day). The only way I can think of doing this is to create a macro in Access to stamp a field with the current date but how do I reference this from word and can I stamp specific records or will I need to stamp them all?     - Images are not displayed in Word2003 Running Win2KSP4 & all patches - Word2K3SP1 Since a while now I can't see images anymore in some documents which were generated as WordML (through xslt transformation). I can't remember when this problem exactly occurred for the first time and thus heave no idea what could have caused it. In the near past these documents have been displayed succesfully on my machine. When I open these documents on another machine (same setup) the images are still visible though. Remark1: I have the option show imageplaceholders disabled in Word (checkbox = empty) Remark2: When I make a new document on my machine and put some images in I can see them normally.     - STORING VARIABLES UNTIL YOU CLOSE WORD I store values in a Access database (company details) and want to use it throughout word but I do not want to use: activedocuments.variables.add Name:=CompName Value:=CoName Obviously activedocument isn't open as yet when you open word and it must also be available when you create new documents. I have tried the option abovementioned as well as: Thisdocument.variables.add etc but to no avail. Tried placing it in the AutoNew, AutoExec etc. macros but no go. I use the whole template as an add in. All the above options work but not as well as I want it to. What I am trying to find out if it is possible to use a program variable or field instead of a docvariable or perhaps the registry entry but word must keep the values until you exit word.     - Workflow designer OnExpire Event I'm using SQL Server 2000 with OfficeXP Developer in order to create workflows. I'm trying to manage expire transition; the OnExpireValidate and OnExpire events work fine, but the OnEnter event on the ending state of the expire transition is never raise.     - Word 2003 Temporary macro storage could not be opened. Using W2K- Word2K3 both fully patched Whenever I open a template containing VBA code I get an error message stating that "the temporary macro storage could not be opened" (Isn't the exact message though, I'm using a dutch version of Word so the error message is in Dutch. Exact frase is: "De opslagruimte voor macro's kon niet worden geopend"). - I have thrown away the normal.dot file - I removed all tmp-files I could find. - I put the template on a local drive - I tried to open the template on another Pc (also running Word 2K3) which was succesful.     - Using DocVariables I am monkeying around with a template that will let me make documents to show/hide details, instructions, etc. I am using an IF field (e.g., {IF {DOCPROPERTY ShowHide1} = "Show"{Autotext Event1}} It is working OK, but I need some advice on the macros. The basic problem is that as I add events I need to define the docvariables on first use. My first stab was the following without the amplifying directions and the result of course was an error indicating the Object (ShowHide3) had been deleted. The real truth is that it had never been created. The solution was to create it once using hte immediate window as incidcated: (Please read on) Sub ShowHideEvent3() Dim Toggle As String 'This macro is simplified.     - Automatically running a macro when printing Hi, folks. In WORD XP Microsoft has disabled the function that had allowed the user to automatically update links and fields in a document before printing. The option seems to be available (it is included in the tools/options/print screen) but it does not work. After an exhaustive session with Microsoft support, it transpires that this function has been disabled as a security measure. The workaround is to create a macro (eg AutoOpen) that updates links and fields when you open a template. However, I want to update links and fields as I print.     - F1 (help) does not work for ADODB in Object Browser Problem: F1 (help) does not work for ADODB in Object Browser Office 2003, Windows XP Professional ADODB is contained in MSADO15.DLL. It appears in the References dialog box (available from the Project menu) as "Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.7 Library". I have it checked and its' functions are working. However, when I am in the Object Browser and use F1 on any of the ADODB objects, the Help window comes up but is blank. The F1 works fine on other library modules like VBA, Excel, etc..     - Field code: NumPages I did this once before in Word '97, but can't remember exactly how! When inserting the Page and NumPage fields into a header or footer, how do I have the NumPage field show something other than the "real" total number of pages, in other words, I don't want it to count the two pages preceeding it. I used something like: "Page {PAGE} of {= (StartingNumber -2) + {NUMPAGES}} in a Word 97 proposal and it worked, but only get an error message in my 2000 document.     - Find and Replace Paragraphs - better explanation I have to loop through numerous documents in a directory and find and replace paragraphs. I plan on having one open documnet with two paragraphs, the first paragraph is the one to find, the second is the one to replace. Next I need to open the other documents and iterate through the paragraphs. If the paragraph text equals the first paragraph in the original document, I would like to replace it with the second paragraph in the original document.     - Couldn't delete tabs using ^t? I was trying to create a macro to delete a leading tab from a selection. It worked fine, iterating through each paragraph of the range - except it did not see the tab at the beginning of a paragraph.     - Compare and Merge Documents When I do a Tools | Compare and Merge Documents via the GUI in Word 2003, the default is to always check "My Documents". I'd prefer that the current directory be the default. So, I modified AutoOpen to set the current directory and the current drive appropriately. However, "My Documents" still is the default.     - Insert Logo in Section Header I have a document with Section Headers which consist of a logo and some text below it. The logo remains the same but the text differs from section to section. I've been going crazy trying to figure out a way to use VBA to just insert the bmp logo in one spot and have it appear in all the section headers. I then assigned it to a Function key and all worked fine for a while but then it stopped responding. But also, when the macro reaches myForm.show, the form opens and the following code immediately continues to execute.
