Filling in School Dates in Word?

Hi all--

I think I've reached the point where I need to program in Word. I
teach a class, and my syllabus lists each class number, the day and
date, and the assignment. I get tired of manually replacing the dates
each semester and would like to do it automatically. This is what I'd
like:

Class #1
<Day>, <Date>
Assignment

So if I teach every Tuesday in fall of 2006, I'd like to give it the
start and end dates (8/22/06 first day of class, 12/12/06 last day of
class) and have it fill in the proper dates for each class throughout
the semester. If I were to teach every Monday and Wednesday, I'd like
it to fill in everything from 8/21 to 12/13 that semester.

To add to the confusion, it would be nice, but maybe not possible, to
have it skip spring break holidays or other days off. Maybe I could
input which dates classes are canceled and have it adjust accordingly.

Am I asking too much?

Hi Peg,

It's not too much to ask, but it might too much to hope for :)
Yet, have a look at Greg Maxey's Web site
(http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/word_tips.htm) for his Word tips. He has a couple
of date examples that you might be able to use. At least, I think they will
get you a lot closer to what you want than where you are now.

It sounds like you should be using an Excel spreadsheet.

I am checking out the link you suggested, Dave, and will see what I can
find there.

Doug: I was thinking it might be more suited to Excel, but that would
require the same type of programming, no?

No, just knowing how to use Excel. Excel does very well at letting you enter
a figure (or date) in one place and filling in all sorts of others based on
it as a starting point. It can also give you the day of the week based on a
date, something that would be very hard to do in Word.

So I could theoretically put in the first day of class, and then it
would be able to give me the dates for every Monday and Wednesday
throughout the semester. Would I be able to make exceptions to that
(spring break, for example) as well?
