Hallo to All !!!

In my word document I have some fields that need to be displayed with first
character in the first word in low register. I've tried to use the key "\ *
Lower" and it works Ok, but it make all characters of the field result in low
register, while I need to make it only with first character of the first
word! So what I need is the key, which acts in oposite way of "\ * FirstCap"
key.

Could you advise me please, is there such undocumented field format key in
Word??
If not, then how can I intercept the display of field result to the screen
and change it before display?

There is no way to do this with fields. The better plan would be to correct
the data so that it works as intended.

Thank you Graham very much!

Are you sure that there is absolutely no way in word to this operation?

If it is so, can I take an advantage of having contact with you? Can I ask
you as Word MVP to suggest the Microsoft Word Developers to add such field
format key in the next version of Word or in Service Pack? Could you do it
for me please?

Thank you in advance!

For some time we have requested the ability to extract parts of data from
fields eg LEFT, MID and RIGHT functions, which would achieve this and be
useful besides. I have not checked the beta of Word 2007 but I have heard no
indication that it has been added. You can make your own suggestions to
Microsoft via the Microsoft support portal, and if enough people agree with
you, the suggestions are at least investigated.

Dear Graham,

Can I also ask you the following question:

I want to name figures in the text like "Figure N", where N - is number of
the figure in my text. But I want to create Cross References in my text on
the figures like "Fig. N".

Can I do such thing in MS Word???

Not automatically using fields. You would have to bookmark the number and
type the Fig. bit and insert a REF field for the number.

As for the link - I work on an expensive dial-up system as broadband (soon I
hope) is not yet available here. I don't have the link to hand, so you'll
have to do your own searching.
