For some time we have requested the ability to extract parts of data from
fields eg LEFT, MID and RIGHT functions, which would achieve this and be
useful besides. I have not checked the beta of Word 2007 but I have heard no
indication that it has been added. You can make your own suggestions to
Microsoft via the Microsoft support portal, and if enough people agree with
you, the suggestions are at least investigated.
