    - VBA - opening files with Shell command I'm writing a macro in Excel which finds other files (not Excel files) with a given name and then opens them. I'm using the Windows registry to find the programs associated with the files and then using the Shell command to open the files with the given program. My problem is that for some programs the Shell command opens a new instance of the program for each additional file, i.e. each AutoCAD file opens into its own instance of AutoCAD even if AutoCAD is already running. So my question is, is there a switch for the Shell command that tells it to check to see if an instance of a program is already running before starting a new one, and, if the program is already running, opens the file with the existing instance? Or is there another way of doing this without getting into the API of each program in question?     - Opening a tab page from a command button Hi, this sounds like a simple question, but I can't find the answer anywhere. I have a userform with a front page and some tab pages that are not visible to the user. There is a command button on the front page. When this is clicked, tab page 2 becomes visible, as planned. However, the focus remains on the front page. I want the tab page 2 to become visible and also become the main displayed page, rather than leaving page 1 as the main displayed page.     - How can I customize a word template so ALL users use the same sett In researching what settings are saved where, I found that some Word settings are saved in normal.dot, others in the user profile, while still others are stored in the registry. I need to include a macro used by all users as well as have all of the settings in Tools, options set the same for all users. I also have a customized dictionary to be used. In lieu of going through multiple steps per pc of importing registry settings, running macros on startup, restoring a normal.dot and possibly running additional macros, is there a component in Office that I can use to customize everything I need for use for ALL my users?     - TOC and Figures .. PLEASE HELP I have a 160 page document with over 120 different pictures with figure captions. Some of my graphics are inline and other are text flowing around. All of my figure numbers show and figure auto count works correctly but when I create my figure table only the my inline figures show up in the figures table. How can I fix this problem?     - Iterating through XML tags in word is slow. Hi, I have a word template with approx 550 checkbox form fields and some textbox form fields. I need to save this as XML data.     - Anyway to get Preferredwidth for a table with merged columns? Is there ANYWAY to determine the width of a table that has merged columns? Jean-Guy showed a way to get the table width for a table without merged columns, however I have many users that like to create tables with merged columns. The preferredwidth property returns 99999 if the table is merged and the column width returns an error. I am copy and pasting the merged table as a nested table and I need to know if the table is wider than 1 column in page layout to auto size the new table to either fit in 1 column or spread it across the whole page.     - Protected Forms and VBA events I've got a VC++ component that opens Word and creates a new document based on a user specified document template. The DDE fields in the document template are then merged with data from our database. With one customer they use protected forms which won't allow the updating of the document. To be able to do this I need to turn protected fields off when the document is created (I've used AutoNew which works), then turn protection back on after the document is updated and displayed. However with out making a Hotfix to our software I can't see a way in VBA (an event probably) to allow me to turn this protection on after the update. Any ideas gratefully received.     - Insert Generic text starting from a bookmark Greetings, I have a document (template) where i need the user to be prompted for how many entries of some information will be appended (inserted) into there document. I need to spell it out for them where the heading is and where to insert the file. So for example if the user needed to insert 5 seperate files into this document the user would type in the number "5" and then the macro would return the following 5 times.     - Trying to simulate a pause in VBA I have looked at the article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=212711 It appears to me that there is a bug in this code. When my BEFORE code is Selection.TypeText("1") and my AFTER code is Selection.TypeText("2") then repeat executions of the macro gives this result: 122122122122122122122122122122122122122122 If it were conducted properly, the result would be: 1212121212121212121212121212121212121212 For some reason it is taking two executions of the macro to clear the keyboard assignation.     - Using application.visible When I use application.visible = false and then turn it back on when the macro has finished, the following occurs: The window screen that appears is fine. However, there is another document that is created at the same time. When I change windows to look at that document, its view is messed up (the narrow print view bar at the bottom of the document screen disappears and the document window cannot be scrolled). When I click the print preview button and close it, the view is then "repaired." I attempted to print preview it programmically at the end of the code, but it makes no difference. Any suggestions? By the way, there are a lot of changes being made in the headers and footers, so turning off screen updating doesn't make any difference - the headers automatically turn it back on (and no, I cannot use the header range object here - dealing with a lot of replacement of text and graphics - thanks). It still works, but now I can see that it needs some tweaking.     - looping through variables I have the following problem. I have several tables in a document and I need to work with the tables in a certain style. So I wrote a piece of code that loops through the tables, checks te style and if it is a match creates a variable in the variable collection of which the name is a counter for the matches and the value is a counter for the tables.
