    - Grayed-out Document Properties All word documents in Windows Explorer show the properties to be "archive" but when I open the file in Word the properties are grayed out and I cannot check the "hidden," read-only," or archive boxes. This affects printing because when a document has all the boxes grayed out, and NO check marks for what kind of properties, the printer spits out a few blank pages. So not only are the word documents not showing a properties classification, but ones that are totally unchecked and grayed do not print. THIS IS NOT a printer problem because i can print every other document. PLEASE EMAIL me directly if you can help. I have a 37 page research paper that has the property boxes grayed out and I cannot print it out (I can view it in its entirety though).     - Name of current OpenDirectory Is there any way in VBA (Office 2000) to learn the name of the current directory/folder? I know how to change the current directory using the command ChangeFileOpenDirectory And I know how to see the current default folder, by examining temp = Options.DefaultFilePath(wdDocumentsPath) But neither one does what I want. Say that my default folder is "C:\My Documents", but I have changed the current directory from the default by "manually" opening a file in a directory other than the default. On two machines I have, both with latest releases and sp1 for Ofiice 2003 the following code runs 'like a dog' and hogs 100% of cpu cycles, even with no other user processes executing. The letters come out very, very slowly. Usually the first line comes after a long wait, the next part comes regularly as is hoped for.     - Save as... something in my document... Hi, I'm quite ignorant in VBA... and I've got a problem... I've got this Word file, which I use to generate about 80 (different but alike) HTML-files by merging it with an Excel-file... The result: one big Wordfile. This should be cut into pieces, each page in a different file, saved as a .txt-file. In each page of the 'mainfile' I've made myself a remark: save this file as 'whatever.txt'. I've made a macro already that cuts the content of one 'subfile' and pastes it into a new file which I then have to save by hand. I'm sure it should be possible to let a macro determine (from the text) what the filename should be, and save the file with the right filename... but how... Anyone?     - Supress Headings I am using word XP. I am trying to apply headings (legal type) to a document of paragraphs based upon styles and would like to be able to skip paragraphs which should be grouped under specific headings without numbers as they are not independent. I am trying to do this withing a vba. Applying the paragraph format value to supress the numbers does not work even if I try this manually. Long ago there was a feature in the old word basic that allowed one to specify which paragraphs got numbers by assigning a number to the desired paragraphs prior to applying the heading formatting.     - Hiding the looping calculations I have an application where I am calculating the average of columns in a form table. The calculation works fine but it is somewhat slow and it causes the monitor to blink for about a minute as it loops through all the cells. Is there a way to hide the calculation, to turn the "echo" off so it went peacefully through the loop and then presented the result? I am hoping that this may speed it up a little. Here is the code I am currently using, based on help from Doug Robbins. I am not sure it works on the multiple columns with the numbered mysum and counter variables. When I try to show the second userform I get an error message of "runtime error '52' bad file name or number" and it highlights my form2.show command.     - document_new May i start by wishing everyone here a happy new year. And now, my question. We have a document management system which produces Word documents for us. This process involves a user inputing data into the application which then performs a merge from a template provided by us to produce the document. However, any code provided by me within the template gets ignored & stripped out by the merge. What i've been trying to do is produce some automation functions to be fired off within the Document_New event of the template, but these get ignored. So my question is this...Can anybody suggest a way of working around this? I'd like to avoid having to train users to click something once their doc is produced and would like to keep things as automated as possible.     - Let user click in doc while macro runs? I have a macro which requires the user to select where the action will happen. I have two issues to deal with: (a) I'm making this a Private Sub, dependent on the running of a previous macro, because I need to pass a total count variable from the previous macro into this one. (b) This is a repeated action, so this macro will update a counter every time it's run and compare it with the passed-on variable to know when to stop. The macro will find a generic label statement and replace it with a user-chosen label (input earlier via InputBox) that includes a number (the counter which increments each time the loop is run). Is there any way I can break out of the loop to ask the user to "Place the cursor where you want the text to be", then let the macro continue? If not, what might be the best way to handle this?     - Clipboard Woes Word 2000 I have a macro that passes data to and from the clipboard. I have a problem in that the contents of the clipboard seem to be changing unexpectedly. In the code below I've marked the lines where the change seems to happen. If I put a watch on cbLocate and step through the code, it contains one value the first time CheckClipboard is run, and a different value the second time CheckClipboard runs. This makes a certain amount of sense if the block of text is being cut from the document. Is there a way to delete blocks of text without the data landing on the clipboard? Is there something about the clipboard that I don't understand that might be causing this problem, like maybe the clipboard is storing multiple blocks of text and my code isn't handling that properly? Also, I understand that data objects can hold multiple pieces of information. Could the data object be the problem? I apologize if this is all too vague, but I thought that trying to post my complete set of macros, or explain the fine details of everything that I'm doing, would be too confusing, so I've tried to boil it down to the section of code where I'm seeing the problem (although, I know this might just be a symptom, and the real problem might be elsewhere in my code).     - Finding Login Information on XP I had a program that listed and deleted files in my cookie folder, but with XP the folder is no longer C:\Cookies or C:\Windows, etc. Does anyone know how to get the login name of a user in word.     - Faster Calculation Needed I'm having a speed issue that I think could be eliminated with a little more knowledge. I am creating a template form in Microsoft Word with 28 dollar amounts. Each dollar amount is split into two text form fields (one for the dollar portion of the amount and the other for the cents portion of the dollar amount). I have set the name of each field (DollarAmt_01 to DollarAmt_28 and CentsAmt_01 to CentsAmt_28). I have also created a macro that gets run when the focus exits the text form field for both the dollar and cents fields. This macro cycles through each dollar amount adding them up. Then it cycles through the cents amount, adding them up, multiplying them by 0.01 and adding the result to the dollar amount total. The software pulls its data through a Word 2000 template, drops data into Word tables, and then saves off as a .rtf file. Two things that I would like to do: 1. To open a Word document from a MS/Access application I use a statement similar to the following (the directory specs are OK): Call C:\Microsoft Office\Winword\winword.exe C:\Data\Myfile.doc It works great with Word 6 and Word 97, on Win95 & 98 but I get a "file not found" with word 2k on NT. The files are indeed in the specified directories. It seems to be looking for Myfile.doc because winword opens if I remove the file specification. I have discovered that about the only place one might look is in: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Doc FolderPaths" I can obtain the value of a known user (let's say me, Roy) by this formula aName = System.PrivateProfileString("", _ "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Doc FolderPaths", "Roy") (the above actually gives me much more than I need--its the full path to the MyDocs folder under my settings, but I can parse the extraneous stuff out.) I would like to know if there is a routine that would identify each of the users in that registry item, something along the lines of: For Each oUser in Registry aName = System.PrivateProfileString("", _ "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Doc FolderPaths", oUser) Any ideas as to how this might be done would be greatly appreciated.     - Word 2003 new document on top Thanks to anyone who can help me solve this problem! I have an application that pops up a new document next to an existing document, critiquing the existing one. I started with Word '97, made modifications to make it work in Word 2000 when that came out and likewise when Word XP came out. Works fine in those releases. The critique is displayed on top (overlaps) of the document being analyzed. In Word 2000 and greater, I use Word.Application.Visible = False to hide the processing then Word.Application.Visible = True to display the Word Docs after the critique is prepared. In Word 2003, sometimes the document comes up on top of the critique. Other times, it works just fine (critique on top). This is confusing for the user. I use ActiveDocument.ActiveWindow.Caption = "Critique" I've tried: Windows("Critique").Activate ActiveWindow.ActivePane.Activate ActiveDocument.Activate Documents("Critique").Activate Windows("Critique").SetFocus 'Word XP & 03 in assorted orders to no avail. I've also tried grabbing the document number of the critique to setfocus and activate with no consistent luck. This problem appears to be a bug introduced in Word 2003.     - Insert several pictures into one document Hello, I could really use some help. I am trying to create a document that will allow my Mother-in-law to insert several pictures in a Word document. The number of pictures range from 3 to 5 and beside each picture she likes to type some notes. I am trying unsuccessfully to create a macro that will ask how many pictures she would like to insert into the document then space out the pictures so that they are evenly spaced on the document. I thought maybe I should do a table so if there are three pictures the table would be 2 columns and 3 rows. If there are 4 pictures there would be 2 columns and 4 rows and if there are 5 pictures there would be 2 columns and 5 rows. The pictures would be on one side and the words on the other side. One of the problems I am running into is the spacing. How do you space it out so it's evenly spaced between the top and bottom and left and right of the document? The next problem is how do I set up the macro to put the pictures into the cells in the table? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Hi John,
it seems, that the constants concerning revision types
are a mistery. The following may be of little help,
as it is rather common sense, but anyway:
- wdRevisionParagraphNumber
is true, if a numbered list was changed.
E.g. the insertion of a new paragraph at the start of
a numbered list causes renumbering of all following
listparagraphs
- wdRevisionReplace
is true, if a change was done by a find a replace
action.
- wdRevisionStyle
is true, if some style properties were changed.
I wish, I would know more.
