    - Deletion of date info in Word comments (I tried to post this question but it did not seem to work). I like to use word to mimic HTML web documents with Word screen tips mimicking HTML title attribute comments, but I can not get rid of the date from the comment.     - Inserting text into protected field/textbox Hi, I have a letter with fields, which is protected. For the content of the letter, I want to use variable text. I made a userform which can select several textlines, which then are to be inserted in the letter. The textlines are in separate word-files. What I want to do is insert a or multiple word-file(s) into a field. If I unprotect the letter, then the field is overwritten. Is it possible to insert the text, which is in another file into a protected field? Or insert the text and put a field on top of the text?     - Switch function, If Then, or Select Case? (or something else?) I need to write a function which checks for certain strings in a field, then reports back a "field type" (my term, not the actual fieldtype in Word) based on the strings it finds. I don't know quite how to write this. Should I be using something other than the Switch function? I thought of using a Select Case statement, but I'm not sure how to phrase the InStr checks as a single expression that could be evaluated for each case.     - Finding information related to headings I have hundreds of legacy documents that I need to add to a index database. I am looking for a way within Word to search on Criteria such as Author, creation data, update date , doument revison etc. The intention is to put a block of files in a dedicated directory, run a routine containing a list of criteria such as above. Ideally the results which would be reported back on each document should give any information held in the document against each criteria, i.e. Author would indicate a name that would be written to a file that could be imported into Excel and then indexed .     - MsBox showing all the headings of each section Dear Experts: I am trying to write a macro that shows me all the headings of all the sections in a MessageBox, i.e the text from the first paragraph of each section along with the section number should appear in a Message Box: Example: Section 1: Cover Sheet Section 2: Acknowledgments Seciont 3: Contents Section 4: Preface Section 5: Chapter 1 Section 6: Chapter 2 etc. I was able to write part of the macro, ie. loop through all the sections and get the text from the first paragraph of each section.     - Formatting text in Footer? I have some vba code that I use to update my footer from a userform. It all works as I have coded it but I am having trouble formatting the footer text after I update it.     - AutoOpen macros and the startup folder In Word 2007, if I want to put all my macros in "AllMacros.dot" and run some from Normal.dot's AutoOpen macro, how do I get around the fact that the AllMacros.dot might not be open in time? (I'm trying to stay compatible with word 2003 so I don't want to use ribbon stuff. These macros add CommandBar's that I want available in all documents) If I put "Application.Run "AllMacros.Module1.MyMacro"" in Normal.dot's AutoOpen it works if I open word (to a blank document) and then open a document. But if I run "winword myfile.doc" from the command line, it fails because Normal.dot's AutoOpen seems to be run BEFORE AllMacros.dot is loaded from the startup folder. How can I handle this case? I initially had the field set as a string, but thought that making it an integer would prevent the field from accepting letters. It does accept letters and gives me an error when I click OK on the box. I also have other input boxes that I'm going to want to check to see if the user put in a valid date format (00/00/00 or 00/00/0000 or 0/0/0000). How can I check a variable to see if it's got the right format, or limit the variable so you can't put an invalid value in it while using an input box to obtain the value? THX!     - macro for applying one Style conditional on another Style I'm trying to create a macro that will do the following: Let's say I had a table and I applied a certain Style to one of its cells. I would like for Word to automatically apply a different Style to its neighboring cell when I tab over.     - Numbered Documents - Protected Forms I am trying to created a form template (.dot) that has an invoice number that automatically updates (+1) each time the template is used to created a new document. I found the following script for a macro that works great until I protect the form. Then I get an error because the macro can't update a protected area.     - Automating charts in word Is it possible to automatically update charts within a word document from a data source and thus create automated reports? I want to create several research reports which will contain around 10 charts (e.g. excel bar charts). The data will be in one source and will contain flags for sector.     - Deleting a graphic in a Header Hello, I have the following code that needs to go into the Header, go to the bookmark which is a graphic that I created a bookmark for, and then delete the graphic. When I do it manually it works fine but the macro returns an error that says it cannot find the bookmark. What am I doing wrong??     - Creating a Blank Style? Hi, Everyone. I'm trying to simplify creating a table of contents for my documents. I've got a font setup for my documents that I like, so I don't want a style to mess with it. Unfortunately, when I create a new style using: ActiveDocument.Styles.Add ("macrotoc") the style it creates isn't blank. I would like a style to be created that keeps all the text within the style the same as it was before the style was applied (e.g., things that are bolded stay bolded, underline stays underlined, non-bold stays non-bold, etc.).     - how can I create a macro from text I have already typed? I frequently find myself typing chunks of text that, once Iâ??ve finished, I realize Iâ??d like to save for repeated future use. But since I didnâ??t have the macro â??recorderâ?? turned on when I was typing, there is no macro created. Iâ??ve tried to remedy this by by copying the text and then pasting it into a blank page with the recorder feature running.     - Connection to FoxPro Database I am writing some VBA code that will show a user form when opening the document it is within. The form will include a drop down (combobox) list and a generate report command button. I have created the document template and placed the bookmarks necessary to place the queried FoxPro data in. I have ran a test without connectivity to the data to check my command button and it works just fine. The problem I am having is connecting to the database and filtering certain information to the drop down list for selection and then querying based on that selection for further database information from FoxPro. I am using Word (Office XP/2000/2003) and VBA 6. I was trying to connect to the data using the vfpoledb driver, but I am having no luck it appears.     - Remove whitespace in footnotes fails I am trying to remove all whitespace from the end of a footnote in Word 2007.     - Repeatedly Change First Letter After [period][blank] to Uppercase I'm developing a macro in Word 2003 to convert text from point form to finished test. One step is supposed to find the string [period][blank] i.e., the end of each sentence. Then it's supposed to convert the character immediately following this string to uppercase because this character will be the first letter in the next sentence, which therefore should be in uppercase.     - Working With Fonts\Character Code\Symbols in VBA I am really not very good at working with fonts, character codes, and symbols in VBA and need some help. I have been playing around with a UserForm macro that will replicate UserForm option button selections in the document. The UserForm displays 7 frames containing 5 optionbuttons each. The document displays a seven questions with 5 WingDings2 Symbol 154 (a small unfilled circle). All 35 symbols are bookmarked with a name corresponding to the groups and optionbuttons in the UserForm. When the user makes their selection in the UserForm and the command button click event in the the UserForm is executed, corresponding the symbols in the document are changed WindDings2 Symbol 158 (a small circle with a filled center). I used the macro recorder to get a start on how to insert the appropriate symbol at the bookmark using VBA. I write some sentences, save it (.doc or .docm) on my desktop, and close word. When i want to open my file, i got this folowing message: file.dotm is locked for editing by 'username' . Do you want to: open in readonly / create a local copy ... / receive notification ... and when i want to close the file, i got this one: You have modified the styles, building blocks (such as cover pages or headers), or other content that is stored in file.dotm. Do you want to save changes to file.dotm The template is not used by anybody and I don't receive these messages if my template is store on my laptop.     - Finding sections automatically that only contain heading 1 level Hello, I got a long word document with 8 sections. Almost all of the sections contain headings level 1,2 and 3. Two of the sections only contain a heading 1 level. I now would like to write a macro that automatically finds the sections where there is only a heading 1 level and set the headers for these sections automatically. How do I open a second document (I have its path). Copy its contents. Do I use; Activedocument.Range.copy????????? or Activedocument.Wholestory.copy?????     - Keydown/up events in userform to set shortcut keys (Revisited) The other day I posted a question re. setting up a user form to assign shortcut keys to various macros. (Thank you Perry and Jean-Guy for assistance with this!) This is sort of an update -- with new code and three new questions... (And sorry for the excrutiatingly long post.) Below is the code I finally ended up with. It seems to work the way I want it to. That is, it assigns a shortcut key to a macro based on user input in a userform text box. (The shortcut key combo must include Ctrl or Alt or both and an alphanumeric key -- and may include the Shift key.) However, I'm new to all of this coding stuff, and would very much appreciate help fixing a few things if feasible. I've been trying, but I haven't figured out how. Specifically: 1) I have a total of 10 text boxes that will be used to assign shortcut keys to 10 different macros. The KeyDown code for each of these would be identical except for "TextBox1.text = strKeySequence" at the end of the macro. (Obviously, that would vary by text box.) Also the KeyUp code for each could be identical except for the "strCurrent=TextBox1.text" at the beginning of the macro and the command assigned to the shortcut key. I've tried putting the common bits of code in a separate sub, but it won't compile ("Argument not optional"). How can I push the "meat" of the code out of the field-specific stuff, so I don't have the same thing repeated 10 times (once for each text box)? 2) I think there's probably a more elegant/streamlined way to do the keybinding based on what the user enters in the text box. However, my attempts to use the "strKeySequence" more directly/efficiently have not worked. How can I better capture the KeyDown info and use it in the KeyUp code, so I don't have all those silly-looking "Ifs" in the KeyUp? 3) Everytime I press the Alt key in the (modal) userform text box, I get a "ding" (error-type sound...     - Fill-In Field displays results twice I have a fill-in field on a document template that is displaying the results twice. However, for some reason, the properties of the document show a created date of yesterday but in actuallity the files have been created over the last several month. In Word 2003 the default print dialog was customized by an employee who is no
longer with us; a new print form was created and the appropriate options
added to include a document footer checkbox and a checkbox to not bill the
print job. This customized form causes problems when using programs that
need to use Word's default dialog box (for instance Adobe Acrobat). We are
also using a DMS, Interwoven 8.1. My question is how can we avoid using a
customized print dialog box, but still prompt to include a footer and/or not
to bill the print job when printing? Thank you in advance for any
suggestions you may have.
