    - How do I set the default name (ie. to something other than DocumentX) I am using Word to create reports/letters/etc that I need to save as PDF files. I do not want to save the DOC files at all. My basic methodology now is to do this: -Open existing doc -update fields -print to Adobe PDF file -close document The problem is that Adobe PDF always assumes the document's filename as it's naming convention - in Word's case it defaults to "DocumentX' (where X is a number) as the filename and consequently the output file is named DocumentX.PDF. I have tried changing the title of the document as well as the caption but nothing works. As a matter of fact this can be duplicated by openeing a new document and performing the steps manually or running this VBA code: sName = "My custom name" Documents.Add Template:="Normal", NewTemplate:=False, DocumentType:=0 With Dialogs(wdDialogFileSummaryInfo) .Title = sName .Execute End With ActiveDocument.ActiveWindow.Caption = sName If you now try to close the document it says "Save changes to DocumentX?" even though the title and caption have been changed to "My custom name"... BUT if you try to save the document it correctly shows "My custom name" as the default... I assume that the text DocumentX must be stored somewhere internally but I cannot find it. I would really rather not save this document and have to deal with problems of existing and in-use documents etc... Any suggestions? Can I change the filename without actually saving the file?     - wdRefTypeHeading returning only 10 "Heading 1" headings Hi! I have to modify a very long (about 200 pages) document and go through all the headings in it. When I'm using wdRefTypeHeading in the following code, it only stores the first 10 of the top level headings. All the headings after that aren't stored in myHeadings, i.e. 11, 11.1.. Dim myHeadings As Variant myHeadings = docMacro.GetCrossReferenceItems(wdRefTypeHeading) It doesn't help if I remove some headings between headings 1-10.     - Basic Array definition and application I am creating an application that goes through 6 columns of data and generates an average. I have got the code working for each single column and am trying to create the best method of going to each succesive column. first I am showing the code now used and then the code that I think I should use.     - Mailmerge error I have a dll which does some mailmerge for me, the dll is called from VB6. It work fine with word 2002 but it fails in this routine I have here below. The line that fails is Kill mdataDocNavn, it deletes the temp file created. but it does not fail on first run but from secund run and more, I found that the line .ActiveDocument.Close SaveChanges:=wdDoNotSaveChanges on first run closes the tempfile created by the OpenDataSource function, but only on first run, so later when I try to delete my tempfile it is open and I cannot access it, it is open but not in the Documents collection, so what do I do?     - Want user to add command button to menu bar I have created templates of all the forms our company uses. To access these templates, I have created another template (probably a document would have done as well) named Sensient Template that has macros with associated buttons on the menu bar that opens a document based on the desired template. From a CD I supply, the user copies the Sensient Template along with all the other templates into his/her templates folder. Here's the question. Variable data is held in about 7 different related tables; I looked at Mailmerge, but it looks to me like it only accepts a single table or query, which seems to rule this out...     - Grayed-out Document Properties All word documents in Windows Explorer show the properties to be "archive" but when I open the file in Word the properties are grayed out and I cannot check the "hidden," read-only," or archive boxes. This affects printing because when a document has all the boxes grayed out, and NO check marks for what kind of properties, the printer spits out a few blank pages. So not only are the word documents not showing a properties classification, but ones that are totally unchecked and grayed do not print. On two machines I have, both with latest releases and sp1 for Ofiice 2003 the following code runs 'like a dog' and hogs 100% of cpu cycles, even with no other user processes executing.     - Save as... something in my document... Hi, I'm quite ignorant in VBA... and I've got a problem... I've got this Word file, which I use to generate about 80 (different but alike) HTML-files by merging it with an Excel-file... The result: one big Wordfile. This should be cut into pieces, each page in a different file, saved as a .txt-file. In each page of the 'mainfile' I've made myself a remark: save this file as 'whatever.txt'. I've made a macro already that cuts the content of one 'subfile' and pastes it into a new file which I then have to save by hand. I'm sure it should be possible to let a macro determine (from the text) what the filename should be, and save the file with the right filename... but how... Anyone?     - Supress Headings I am using word XP. I am trying to apply headings (legal type) to a document of paragraphs based upon styles and would like to be able to skip paragraphs which should be grouped under specific headings without numbers as they are not independent. I am trying to do this withing a vba. Applying the paragraph format value to supress the numbers does not work even if I try this manually. Long ago there was a feature in the old word basic that allowed one to specify which paragraphs got numbers by assigning a number to the desired paragraphs prior to applying the heading formatting.     - Hiding the looping calculations I have an application where I am calculating the average of columns in a form table. The calculation works fine but it is somewhat slow and it causes the monitor to blink for about a minute as it loops through all the cells. Is there a way to hide the calculation, to turn the "echo" off so it went peacefully through the loop and then presented the result? I am hoping that this may speed it up a little. When I try to show the second userform I get an error message of "runtime error '52' bad file name or number" and it highlights my form2.show command. This process involves a user inputing data into the application which then performs a merge from a template provided by us to produce the document. However, any code provided by me within the template gets ignored & stripped out by the merge. What i've been trying to do is produce some automation functions to be fired off within the Document_New event of the template, but these get ignored. So my question is this...Can anybody suggest a way of working around this? I'd like to avoid having to train users to click something once their doc is produced and would like to keep things as automated as possible.     - Let user click in doc while macro runs? I have a macro which requires the user to select where the action will happen. I have two issues to deal with: (a) I'm making this a Private Sub, dependent on the running of a previous macro, because I need to pass a total count variable from the previous macro into this one. (b) This is a repeated action, so this macro will update a counter every time it's run and compare it with the passed-on variable to know when to stop. The macro will find a generic label statement and replace it with a user-chosen label (input earlier via InputBox) that includes a number (the counter which increments each time the loop is run). Is there any way I can break out of the loop to ask the user to "Place the cursor where you want the text to be", then let the macro continue? If not, what might be the best way to handle this?     - Faster Calculation Needed I'm having a speed issue that I think could be eliminated with a little more knowledge. I am creating a template form in Microsoft Word with 28 dollar amounts. Each dollar amount is split into two text form fields (one for the dollar portion of the amount and the other for the cents portion of the dollar amount). I have set the name of each field (DollarAmt_01 to DollarAmt_28 and CentsAmt_01 to CentsAmt_28). I have also created a macro that gets run when the focus exits the text form field for both the dollar and cents fields. This macro cycles through each dollar amount adding them up. Then it cycles through the cents amount, adding them up, multiplying them by 0.01 and adding the result to the dollar amount total. Look in Word's help under "online forms." Look also at the REF field. If
these don't do what you need, then look into userforms on the MVP FAQ site.
