    - VBA Code to read doc and apply/unapply hard CR at 4 inches Using Word 2000 What VBA code will accomplish the challenge below: Wish to use Word as my text editor for a Visio 2000 Text Box insertion. In Word, I wish to format the "page width" to 4 inches which is exactly the width I wish in the Vision Text Box. Of course as I enter text into Word, wrapping occurs (without a CR, of course) at about 4 inches (the page width) which is just fine. When I copy/paste the text (in Word) to Visio, only hard Word CR's are recognized in Visio. Is there VBA Code that will read a .doc file and wrap with a hard CR at exactly 4 inches. Also code that will (in reverse) remove existing hard CR's at exactly four inches - leaving all other CR's alove?     - email as attachment - save first? Hi, I have some code which attaches the current Word document to an email (outlook 2002) and completes the recipient address and subject line automatically. This is fine but prompts me to save the document before I can email it. If I create a new document and click Word's own "mail as attachment" button I'm not required to save the document first.     - TextBox_Exit not receiving event when user tabs off of multi-page form I have a textbox control on a page of a multi-page control. If the user enters text into that control and tabs out of the control to the OK button (not contained within the page of the multi-page control) then the TextBox_Exit event isn't received.     - Canned responses/mail integration I've seen this done before, but it's been a long time. I'm doing a fair amount of email support and easily accessible canned responses would make the entire process oodles easier. I'm using Outlook for mail management, but I've seen canned responses that could be set up, organized, and selected within Word to create the email and then simply copied and paste to be sent out through Outlook. Anyone know how I can create and organize canned responses within Word? I'm a novice when it comes to it, but surely it can't be that hard. It's either this, my little folders full of text files that aren't nearly as convenient and limit productivity, or I somehow manage to convince management to actually purchase an email database system that could support this, but that would actually be overkill for our needs.     - word error msg.: insufficient memory I have Windows XP, Msft Word XP 2002. When attempting to save a document, I receive following error msg.: "Word had insufficient memory. Do I want to save the document as 'Received Document'?". My computer has over 500 mb internal memory available according to ms3winfo.exe. When it says that "Word has insufficient memory", is it referring to a separate memory resource for Word?     - Multiple index sub-entries When I try to create an index with subentries, I find that the same main entry sometimes appears for each sub- entry instead of only once with the sub-entries listed below. For example, instead of the following: adding, email messages footers I get this: adding, email messages adding, footers However, oddly enough, there are some entries where it does work correctly.     - Create an add-in I am working in Office XP. This may sound like a real no-brainer, but how do I create an add-in for Word?     - Duplex printing This is not a question. It's a sharing. I was having trouble with Duplex printing, similar to the threads posted on 7/12 and 7/21. While we were all on the right track, there is a slight error in the sample code posted on the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 230743. This error was hinted at in one of the threads, but to really undertsand why, take a look at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/SetDuplexOnOff.htm Suddenly it all made sense.     - Macro with Replace in it locks up. I have created a macro to replace one phrase with another. Generally it runs correctly, but when I run it with the last occurrence of the phrase in the document the macro hangs. I have to press Esc to get back to the document. If I then insert the phrase a few more times then run the macro again it does nothing (as if it has been disabled). Closing and opening the document again - and the macro runs OK (until I get to the last occurrence again). I note that if you do the same Replace from the menus, Word tells you it has reached the end of the document and awaits an OK. Is this my problem? - if so how do I deal with it in the macro.?     - Make Word macro find text in footnotes, headers, etc? Hello, This is a question about a macro in which all the good ideas were offered by Helmut Weber in answer to questions that I posted here in earlier threads. Thanks to Helmut, I have a Word macro that helps fix a problem with WordPerfect 5.1 documents imported into Word 2002 - but so far, the macro works only with the main story in a document - not with the footnotes and headers, etc. Can anyone help with this last part of the problem? Here is the background: When Word 2002 opens a WordPerfect 5.1 document with typographical symbols such as curly quotation marks and em or en dashes, or some non-English alphabetical characters like the "oe" ligature, these symbols are not converted into native Windows characters, but are stored as invisible symbols. Helmut showed me how to devise a macro that replaces these symbols, and the code is at the foot of the message. I found this page has example code for making a find/replace operation work through an entire document, but I have not been able to adapt it to work with the kind of operation in this macro: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/FindReplaceAllWithVBA.htm Can anyone help adapt it to the needs of this macro?     - Adding menu items to a separate menu section on doc template attach Hello all, I just finished the nitty gritty of checking through a doc template for valid bookmark entries. This is working fine. Now I want to add a menu item whenever the doc template is attached (added through Templates and Add-ins) For this, I over rode the subroutine Autoexec and here I tried to create the menu item. I am not able to figure out how to add a new menu section itself.     - fields.update in macro does not update TOC My template has a TOC and at the end of my AutoNew macro I have included the statement ActiveDocument.Fields.Update, because the TOC includes some text (headings) that contain text inserted with the AutoNew macro. The problem is that the text apparently is not updated in the TOC. One heading contains the name of a person ("Personal objectives for Peter") - this name is inserted during AutoNew - but the TOC only shows "Personal objectives for ". If I update the fields manually (rightclicking TOC, choosing Update field and Update evreything) the TOC is OK - so I thought the problem might be related to some missing parameter for the ActiveDocument.Fields.Update statement, but I can't see any possible parameters. Does anyone know a method to tackle this problem? I do know how to evaluate a selection character by character, so that's not the problem.     - StyleRef in following pages Template used Heading 1 style at start of new part of report. Heading 1 has "page break before" so it is always at the top of page. Report part may be one or many pages. I need to create a page header that is -- blank on the page containing a Heading 1 style entry; but on later pages the header is "[heading1 text] continued.." So far as I can see a {StyleRef "Heading 1"} entry will put the [heading text] on every page, but I need to supress it on the first page, and display it (plus the "continued..") on subsequent pages.     - Removing a custom commandbar Hi, I have added a few custom commandbars in Word, but not matter what I do they keep coming back. I have tried deleting using the Customize window and it deletes until I load Word again. I have also tried deleting via VBA and the same happens. The code I used to create is on a different Doc.     - Trouble installing ADO reference library Trying to install the ADO reference library in Word (2000 to 2003), but there are some problems with this. One of them is that variables can't be declared as ADO objects if this is not installed, causing the error: compile error: User-defined type not defined So this can't work: Public ADOConn As ADODB.Connection I can declare as variant and then do: Set ADOConn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") rather than Set ADOConn = New ADODB.Connection But then for some reason ADO doesn't install. I just can't figure this out and wonder what the best way is to approach this. This is possible from the Save As dialogue box but I cannot figure a way of doing it in a macro. template, change the standard font in Normal.dot
automatically? We do not want to replace the whole

Hi Ulf,

A good strategy might be to discourage users from basing documents on
Normal.dot.

If you make Ctrl+N and the toolbar button create a document based on some
standard company template, that should help.

If you change the Normal style to "Garamond", all table styles will be set
to Garamond and you can't change them to another font.
It's a small bug, but maybe reason enough not to customize the Normal
style.
