Goal: To print all PDFs in a folder *in order* (alpha by filename), in a way that doesn't require opening each one or combining them into a large file(s). Selecting multiple PDF files from an Explorer window and clicking File-> Print does in fact send them to printer, but the print in some bizarre order I can't discover! Can I use VBA's FileSearch property to collect the filenames & then call another macro within that loop that sends each file to the printer, with a DoEvents line (or some equivalent to Background:=False) after each one, so they'll print one at a time?     - KillDuplicateParas I came across an old post in Google groups for deleted duplicated lines of text in a document. It used a For x = Count method to go through and check the range of one paragraph to the the range of every other paragraph and delete any duplicates. It had two If ... End If blocks. The first check the para range length. If = then the second performed a text comparison. I assume the author thought that it would save time by doing a text comparison only on paras of equal length. The procedure worked as advertised, however with a longer document it took a long time. I created about 800 paragraphs and determined that it was actually much quicker to bypass the the first length check and just do a range comparison on every paragraph. Down from 200 seconds to 75 seconds! Next I remembered an method that Jezebel showed me for stepping through items using the .Next (property or method I am never sure which). I adapted the code as follows and the time taken was down to 3 seconds!     - creation/destruction of our custom command bars for the office ma Hi, I have a problem with creation/destruction of our custom command bars for the office macros ( MS Word) on various combination of OS & Office. Our Solution is based on suggestions from Microsoft support (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/245765) issued for MS Word 2000. Construction of the menu bars isnâ??t the problem though, but proper destruction is. What MS basically suggests is to reopen Normal.dot template (which is where the global menu bars configuration is stored) on AutoExit() then remove our custom menu bars and then save it. Unfortunately this solution does not always work and whatâ??s worst on some combination of OS & Office (ex. Japanese XP + Japanese Office XP) it leads to a crash. This solution from MS was offered for Word 2000, and it does not work on all possible OS and Office combinations. I wish to find a safe way of saving normal.dot template after removing our custom command bars and icons , so that it works on all supported combinations of OS & MS Office. I have implemented the following code during AutoExit() which gives me a crash on Japanese XP SP2 and Office XP combination, as well as on Vista 2007 while exiting word application. I have tried unsuccessfully to do this, but have done it many times in the past with no problem. I changed the shortcut key several times to no avail. The file is obtained from another program, which outputs a tabulator seperated file for merging. The problem is that it is sorted by the wrong column. Not all section may be used at once so in order not to see it or print it, could I hide it or collapse it until it needs to be used then have the user click on it to open? Example: Thee are three (3) setions for Collateral. Section one is for the main collateral and sections two and three are for additional collateral.     - Explanation of Automation Error Please The standard VBA InputBox does not provide a means of determining if the user clicked on cancel or just left the input field blank. I put together a UserForm to perform the role of an InputBox that allows me to determine which user action occurred. I basically built a form with a label, a textbox, an OK commandbutton and a Cancel command but. I assigned "Cancel" = True for the Cancel commandbutton. In my code I set the value of the textbox to "**Canceled by user**" if the user clicked the cancel button, clicked Esc, or clicked the close form "X." While perhaps crude, it worked like I expected. Next I thought I might set the value of the .Tag property to "**Canceled by user**" if one of the actions above occurred and set .Tag to "TextBox1.Text" if the OK command button was pressed. This worked also except for when the user closed the form with the "X" button. On that action, the VB Editor returned an: Run Time Error '2147418105(8011007)' Automation Error. The callee (server [not server application]) is not available and dissappared. All connections are invalid. The call may have been executed. After stepping through my code I can "almost" understand why that occurs. However, I don't understand why it occurs when I use .Tag vice .TextBox1.Text Here is my code with both variations. The current arrangement uses .TextBox1.Text. It works as expected.     - Watermark only appears in first section I have a Word document with nine sections. None of the sections are linked because there is specific text in each header. From an Access database, I have code that opens the Word document, replaces a bunch of bookmarks, updates some fields and the table of contents, saves the document, and exits. Now, I have to add a watermark. After spending way too much time coming up with a solution, it turns out that the code only writes the watermark in the first section.     - VBA Runtime Error 5281 I'm getting a randome Runtime Error #5281 when I run a macro that creates a paragraph style in a document. The error says something like the style I'm trying to create is based on too many styles. The funny thing about this is that if I quit out of Word and load the macro again, it doesn't necessarily happen. I've created 120 style macros. When a user activates a User Form through a command bar, a selection of buttons are available to apply style to text. You highlight the text and then click a button. It checks to see whether the style is already created and if it isn't it creates the style, then applies it to the selected text. It was very odd. It was working fine yesterday. Then, when I created a few more style macros, it suddenly started giving me the error. After closing and opening the project template, it then allowed me to cycle through all the macros with no error. I don't know what is going on.     - Formatting dates? I can't seem to figure out how to make a date come out in a specific format. I parse thorugh a text file sent ot me by someone else.     - Word 2003 VBA error I receive the following error message 'Run-time error 4605; This command is not available. I built this template 3 months back and works just fine then, now that the user has request a new table column added, I add the new column to an exists table and saved the *.dot. I run it and get this error. I'm guessing some MS patch that was applied made this not function anymore.     - Add Header footer to word doc Hi, I'm currently developing a documents manager that stores th documents in sql server. The application is developed in classic ASP sqlserver and pffice automation. The application lets you program circuit o responsabilities and many other features. I use IExplorer and DSOFramer ActiveX Office Control to process and print and perform other processes to office docs. Currently I have found a solution having 2 instances of dsoframer o the page. I use vbvscript to control the instances. I open a templat (.dot) into the first dsoframer control instance (lets call it oDodT) Then Word Document (.doc) into the another instance of dsoframe control (lets call it oDOcD). Select wholestory from oDocD, selec bookmark("doc_content") from oDocT. Then do PasteandFormat to oDocT. S this way the application lets you select between templates to print you docs. But have a problem with some documents written in word 97 found in man companies nowadays. When the content is pasted, oooppssss, somethin extrange occurs. The normal text becomes Italic and the italic Tex becomes Normal. So I decided to follow another way to give header and footer to offic docs. Instead of pasting the contents of docs to templates I want t ADD header and footer to Docs. I'm not an expert on this. I'm a senior web apps developer. I foun difficult to translate to vbscript some vba sintax but after man try/error I have come up with something.     - Word vb altered by Outlook or mail filter software? Is it possible that the process of emailing using Outlook (combined with company email filters) could do anything to alter the state of vb code and vb controls? I emailed (using Lotus Notes) a vb document complete with vb controls/userforms, I had thoroughly tested, to others in remote locations to do further testing in the true environment. They received document ok, and the functionality worked when they opened the document there, but when they returned it to me, it was corrupted, it would open up stuck in design mode, the code was getting mixed up, the controls were getting renamed, such as cmdEdit would become cmdEdit1, then cmdEdit11, etc. We thought we pinned it down to them working on the document while opening it from Outlook instead of saving first to server/hard drive, then editing, then re-attaching, as they were also emailing directly from Outlook, instead of saving the document, then attaching to email. But when they completely saved/closed the document, then attached it, it was still corrupted upon receipt by me. I am beginning to wonder if there are any known issues between Outlook/Word, and/or if spam filtering software used by companies could be tinkering with the code somehow, because when I receive the corrupted document, it still works fine on their end, and the only difference is that it's been transported via email. The task pane was introduced with Word 2002 (Office XP). It is not available
in Office 2000.
To merge from Works databases you would need the Works add-in for Word
installed - this has problems of its own and is often not worth the trouble
of installation. You would be better exporting from Works database in a
format that Word merge can use directly.
