 - Need help with networking problem I (and my three staff) use Microsoft Word 2002 with Windows XP Professional. We are changing over from standalones to a network setup. I would like my staff to be able to "see" the many macros and Auto Text entries that I have generated. My thought is that I just drop my Normal.dot template into the common network directory, and then change each user's path to point to that document as their default template, but my guess is that it's either not that easy, or that there are unanticipated consequences, or both. I am sure that there are articles, either in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and/or elsewhere, that comment on the networked use of Word. I would appreciate it if someone in the group could suggest some articles to help me avoid pitfalls or learn the best way to take advantage of the network.  - Splitter Macro - One More Question Hello. The splitter now works. But my original document has a picture on the top of every page. When I run the splitter the new document has the picture but when I go back to the original document the picture on the next page is then missing. The remaining pages of the original document still have the picture? Is there a fix for this?  - Saving Labels and Envelopes After typing a label or envelope address and then printing it, the prior typing is gone and the 'Envelopes and Labels' option closes. Any typos discovered (and I make quite a few) requires reopening it and retyping. Any way to HOLD the typed entry until I choose to close, as is the mode on all other WORD as well as other MS programs. Your suggestion that I improve my typing and editing is not required. I KNOW.  - Visio graphics not appearing in word documents My office deals with federal grant proposals which have very strict page and format limitations as well as very tight deadlines. We often create graphic elements in visio or other graphic programs to insert into our word documents. However, while these elements show up in the print preview screen and when printed, they do not appear in the on-screen document whether the view is normal or print layout. Thus, it is impossible to accuarately ddetermine the number of pages in the document while working on the document and it is also impossible to manipulate the image on screen (there is no way to click on this). When dealing with tight deadlines and page limits, this is a serious problem. For instance, we were working with a document that had to be postmarked yesterday that had a 15 page limit. It looked like we were good at 14.5 pages looking at the on screen document but when printed, it was 17 pages. Trying to cut two pages is difficult, especially on tight deadlines. This problem seriously limits the usefulness of Word in this environment. We use Word 2000. If anyone knows of a fix for this, I would appreciate the information. Thanks very much.  - Character spacing problem Being a computer novice I sincerely hope there is someone out there who can help me with Microsoft Works Word Processor. Recently the characters I typed became "compressed" and unlegible. When I type a new letter it begins in the middle of the last letter typed.  - "Error 5121: Cannot open document"??? Word97 on an NT network. Multiple users of a form that creates documents. Macro suddenly starts failing with the subject error message after years of "flawless" performance. Errors are intermittent and occur on various machines. The error is triggered when the macro attempts to add a document which is stored as a template on a network workgroup templates directory ("Documents.add WorkgroupDir\Sys\ & ProblemFile.dot") ie The subdirectory (named "Sys") is a subdirectory of the target directory recorded in the file locations tab. I have managed to temporarily fix this, more by good luck than good judgement(!), by issuing the same command in the VBA immediate window using a different template and pointing the directory up one level (ie "Documents.add WorkgroupDir\ & AnotherFile.dot". If I do this, then re-run the macro, all is well (until the next day/hour...). Also; These problems started around the time that our system's people installed a McAfee virus scanner on all the machines. In my hours of searching I've seen references to how virus scanners can cause problems (most refer to NAV). I've tried killing the scanner and sometimes it makes a difference, sometimes not.  - Word 2002 and Track Changes It seems that Microsoft considers Tracking Changes only to be used when 'collaborating' on a document with multiple users? We recently upgraded to XP and Office 2002 and the option to hide deleted text is gone! We want this option back. :o( In my organization (large programming area with many large systems) we have many system documents that we update on a regular basis. We mark the changes to the document so that reviewers and users can easily see in context what is new or changed (in addition to the Nature of Changes page). We store all our documents in an CM system and usually only need to view documents electronically. But when a document is one that needs to be referenced frequently we will also create hard copies.  - New document normal template corrupted A friend's 5-year-old daughter somehow inserted some Word Art into the blank new document template (normal.dot). She can delete the Word Art each time, but every new document contains it. We created a new template which she can open instead, but not vis the icon. I tried re-saving after deleting the WordArt, but it won't allow it. I tried creating a new template and then trying to save it as Normal.dot, both within Word and in Explorer, but not allowed.  - Tables & Page Breaks I created a table only to find that now Word has put a single row on one page, three rows on a second page and the remaining rows on the third page. Their is a lot of blank space on pages 1 and two. I don't mind having a row go across pages but apparently there are page breaks in the document now that I didn't insert. I went to Normal view and I see them but I can't select them to delete them. If I underline the text in the above example the text-underline does not match up with the "_" character. How do I make it look like one line underlining the whole sentence.  - Deleting duplicate pages in a word document I am an agency researcher who has recently download a html document from the internet. To my suprise I noticed that the document is over 300 pages long. Upon closer inspection of the document I noticed that there are a number of duplicate pages throughout the document that have made it so large. I converted the html document to a word document by renaming the extention from .html to .doc I did this in the hope that word would have some kind of tool to delete duplicate pages throughout the document. Unfortunately I have been unable to find a solution. Could anyone please send be a step by step guide on how I can delete duplicate pages throughout the document?  - How to search and replace tracked changes A fellow translator has to translate the revisions of a text, and needs to count the number of revised words, which are visible with Track Changes. I suggested replacing the black/auto and red (deleted) text with hidden text, which would just leave the new parts (in blue) to be counted, but this doesn't work with revisions; Word sees the blue and red parts as auto colour. Searching for underlined, struck through and bold text also doesn't work.  - Word attachment in Lotus Notes-prevent detach and print I'm creating a newsletter to be sent as an e-mail attachment to my department via Lotus Notes. To prevent the document from being launched (and therefore sent in another e-mail to someone outside the our internal Notes server area) and/or printed, I need to "lock up" that document. Is there a way to "lock" a Word document so that it is impossible to print it out and/or forward it to someone via the internet?  - Copying pictures Hi, Trying to copy a picture into word (or any office product), and on one PC only I am having difficulties.
