    - Unable to Open MS Word 2000 SR Recently my MS Word 2000 has developed the following glitch. When I open the program instead of a blank page there appears the opening page of a file which I had created some time before but had deleted. When I click the 'open new page' icon, the same thing happens. And so on for any further effort to secure a blank page. In all cases the old file with its appears on my screen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the MS Word Program, but the problem remains. I cannot locate the rogue file on my computer. Nor can I locate the Normal.Dot file.     - Word 2003 Print Layout Problem Somehow I lost the regular Print Layour view. I have black lines between pages instead of grey separated desktop area.     - Word XP Unit of Measurement Won't Change Hello, I have a problem and am urgently looking for a solution. I installed Word XP, and the ruler showed measurements in millimeters rather than inches. I tried repeatedly to go to Tools, Options, General to set the default to inches. That should have been simple enough. "Inches" appeared as the default setting, but the ruler did not change to reflect the change. It still appeared in millimeters. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, with the same result. I also tried running Install and specifying Repair, and the only change was that the ruler's unit of measurement changed to "character." Also, when going to Format, Paragraph to adjust spacing before or after paragraphs and/or to set indents via this dialog box, the measurement that shows is "ch" (character). Typing in measurements here in inches and specifying inches as the desired unit of measurement doesn't work. FWIW, in trying to troubleshoot the problem, the same CD that was used in the installation was also used to install XP on another machine. It installed properly. The other machine had identical specs to the "problem" machine. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, solutions as to what I can try to set things right? Help!     - Problem formatting Wordpad (and often Word) I'm having a terrible repeat problem with Wordpad I use sometimes for its simplicity and Word in getting the margins correct. I'm using MOS 2003 and WinXPSP2. I have had the problem with Word before, but not Wordpad. I have tried to use Format>Tabs and Format>Paragraph to correct this and the Help but gotten nowhere. Obviously need to read up on margins in Word and will but need to get help now with this. I can't make sense of the margin settings on the *horizontal ruler* and am not sure whether to use it manually or the Format capability on the toolbar.     - Annoying Toolbar I'm posting this to both the Word and the WinXP newsgroups, as i don't know which is causing the problem. A few days ago, I installed the WinXP Service Pack 2, and also updated my Word with a newer version (2002?). Now an annoying toolbar appears on the right side of my desktop, disappearing in and out of the desktop when my curser gets near the right side. It's annoying because (1) I don't want or need it; and (2) it gets in the way when I'm trying to close a window by using the x in the top right corner. I also updated my mother's computer with WinXP SP2 and the Word update on that same day. Her annoying bar, which has a different appearance from mine, has appeared on the left hand side. I know I can move it from the right, but I don't want it at all. Can someone kindly tell me how to get rid of it?     - Command line switches I want word to default to a certain template when I run from the desktop. (I don't want to replace normal.dot.) The Word helpfile (after a lot of searching) says you can use a /t switch from the command line (the Run command from the Start menu) to specify a template name.     - Help with Org Chart User has an org chart created in Word 2000. Now she has XP and when you open the chart, the horizontal lines under the basically "centered" 3rd level manager have been extended. It appears as though the data is being stretched to fit the margins somehow. Where the center manager employees should be listed as two vertical columns of names, those names have been moved to the left and right as far as can be moved. It all looks very wierd.     - AutoCorrect in tracking mode comments I used to be able to use AutoCorrect as a shortcut way of making comments in the tracking mode but in Word 2002 I can only do this when the doc is viewed in Print Layout. However, switching from Normal to Print Layout, defeats the purpose of the shortcuts.     - UNICODE SORTING Greetings again. Sorry to post this question again, but I'm afraid my first posting was ambiguous or confusing, so I'll try to express the question differently. I have a huge list of Greek words in UNICODE font (Gentium, similar to Palatino Linotype). When I try to sort these words in MS WORD 2003, I don't get an alphabetized sort (for example, accented alphas come after accented epsilons!). I did a search on the Internet and found the problem mentioned (that is, the difficulty of sorting with UNICODE fonts), and someone mentioned that you need to install special software to get around this problem. I am at a loss as to how to solve this problem, and regret converting all these words to UNICODE fonts. Could anyone give me some help or suggestions regarding this matter?     - Unable to open any Word 2003 documents because when I try (double-clicking a Word 2003 document, named for example My Paper) an error message pops up. The text of this message: "Word cannot open this document template (C:\Program Files...PDFMaker.dot). After I click OK to that, I get the error message "The file My Paper is not available." Furthermore, when I try to close Word, even if I haven't used it at all, I get the error message "The file Normal already exists. Do you want to replace it?" followed by yes no cancel. Have you activated your copy of Word on the PC where the document is locked?

Help > Activate Application

(Or is it a trial version that has expired?)
