word problem

i am having character problem when ever i open word new doc. it shows a
character with the cursor and on changing line or on pressing enter it shows
a arrow.. and on spaccing dots start to appear..please help

Click on the Show/Hide button. It has a ¶ on it.

i am having word 2003 it dosent shows any thing like that

The ¶ button (keyboard shortcut CTRL+*) is on the standard toolbar of Word
2003. Check the tiny arrow at the right hand end of the toolbar to ensure
that the button (Show All) is turned on.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm. If you are not
seeing the Show/Hide ¶ button, it could be because you have the Standard and
Formatting toolbars sharing a row. Click the down arrow at the end of one of
the toolbars and choose Show Buttons on Two Rows (or find the Show/Hide ¶
button in the palette of undisplayed buttons).
