It sounds like you need the whole treatment: see

As a diagnostic, select the text in the document (or template) and press
Ctrl+Spacebar. If this does not return the text to your usual font, then the
font of Normal style has been changed. Go to Format | Font, select the
desired font, and click the Default... button. For more, see
