In the Word 2007 Options (Alt, T, O, A)
[or Office Button=>Word Options=>Advanced
scroll down in the advanced section to the 'Display' category to choose the measurement units you wish to use.

Go to Office button > Word Options > Advanced. Scroll down to the
Display section and change the dropdown for "Show measurements in
units of".

Yes you can. Open Word Options (click on the Pizza slice and select Word
Options from the bottom or use the keyboard shortcut Alt+F,I) and then
select the Advanced Tab. The setting is about half way down under the
Display options settings.
