How do I save Office Doc. on flash drive?
I wish to save WORD Docs. on flash drive on "Compatabilty Mode". Please

PS I usually find the title in Documents (VISTA), right-click, press SEND TO
> E (removable). When I insert drive in Windows XP Pro, I click "My Comp.", a
box comes up with the saved icons; but, they are not WORD icons (something
strange!) and it usually says 1 Kb. I click on icon and get nothing. Please

Any way to prevent lines from appearing in document?
I find that when I type a line of asterixes and then hit RETURN, the
asterixes are transformed into some kind of line graphic. Not only
that, but new line graphics then start popping up as I type near the
original graphic and hit RETURN.
This is annoying. Does anyone have an idea how to get rid of those
lines?

No Space Please
Word 2007
When I make a new document the default style is Space. Somehow trying
to get it to not space I have messed it up where the first line is
followed by a blank line and the rest are not. Like this.

I noticed up in the style ribbon that the first box is highlighted.
After the first enter the second bo "No Space" is highlighted.
How to I tell Word that I do not want a empty line after any carrage
return? Just start default with "No Space"

MS Word to pdf bookmarks
Adobe pdf's have bookmarks, analogous to Word's
Document View. I use the Adobe plugin to Word
to convert the .doc to .pdf
For one pdf document that I've created, I see the
Heading1 and Heading3 bookmarks, but not the
Heading2 bookmarks. And some of the Heading3's
are indented as if they're Heading2.
It all looks fine in Word, and the Word TOC is
correct.

Keyboard Shortcuts.
I am using Office XP (Word
2002). I have Vista Business on my computer. I often need to insert one
file into another. My method: alt i l on the keyboard. I then type the
name of the file I want and press enter. Recently, the last part does not
work. When I type the name of the file and press enter, it is displayed in
the list but is not highlighted. I then have to mouse over to it and double
click.
Again, I know this sounds small but I really prefer using keyboard commands

Word 2003 TOC
I have a document in which the page numbers in the TOC do not match the page
numbers in the document. If I click on the TOC page numbers the hyperlink
DOES take me to the correct page and location on the page to find that
topic. However the page numbers are off a few pages. How can I get Word to
regenerate the page numbers in the TOC? Thank you in advance.

I have a Word document given to me which has the page numbers too high on
the page. In fact in some cases there are actually some lines below the
page numbers. The page numbers are in the middle at the bottom of the page.
Can someone tell me how to move the page numbers down as low as possible on

I've got a docuemtn in Word 2003 SP3 that is a contract document
The doc contains fields that i want to update often, eg: Name, Address,
Phone etc when we issue the contract to different people.
Is it possible to put a sort of Cover sheet on the document that contains
all the changing bits of info, so that it automatically copies the data to
the right place?

i have a document, which have my company logo and name. every time when i
copy something and paste it to this document, all the things will become
different. the paragraph spacing all become 1.5 and the after paragraph

Organize templates - delete Word default templates
New job, using Word 2002. I'm making templates and can organize them into
directories/tabs OK, but I'd like to get rid of the default ones Word gives
me so I don't have to read or sort past them to get to mine.
I can't find the Word default templates to move/delete them. They are not
in the templates folder or are not visible.

Hyphenation will not install
When I tried to set automatic hyphenation in a certain text, I got the
following response (in Dutch):
"Word hyphenation
feature is not available. Run the Microsoft Office Setup program,
install this feature and then try again."
However, when I run the Microsoft Office Setup program, I can not find
the hyphenation option.
I tried to install ALL the features several times, but still
hyphenation is not present.
I have Microsoft Office 2007, Home and Student version.
OS: Vista Home Premium.
Is hyphenation not available for users of this version or did I do
something wrong when trying to install the hyphenation feature?

Track changes & printing
Office(word) 2k.
New to Track Changes....
Wife is editing a large doc and is using Track Changes. Original writter
wants to see changes. I'm trying to learn but here's what happening.
When using Track Changes on one system(wifes) and she prints doc with
revisions, they do not show up on printed doc. When I make changes to a doc
and print, everything shows up.
Know it must be the setup but not sure where/how.

Word 2000 question
If I open an existing document in Word, just look at it and do nothing to
it, when I select"close" it asks me if I want to "save changes" when there
have been none! Is it possible to stop this?

Tabs keep disappearing
In Word 2003 I set the tabs and after I use the tab key once or twice the
tab marker disappears. I set tabs on the ruler and tried in the Format >Tab
dialog box. Even click Set > Okay but the tab marks don't stay put. What am

Somehow I changed something and some some typing appears on the page every
time I open a 'New Document'. I can't find a template for 'New Document'

documents, and haven't been able to work out exactly how to do this. The

page breaks in Word 2007
I've just upgraded to Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and am in the
process of converting my Word 2003 documents to Word 2007.
The problem I'm having is when I insert a page or section break (in a 2003
doc that is being worked in the Compatability mode) the text I want to have
placed on the next page or in the next section does not move the way it
should.
What do I need to do so I don't have to keep inserting keystrokes to move

Hi,
I have been using MailMerge for some time, usually to get
1 Word page from each Excel record.
Sometimes I use Skip a record if... when I want to skip some
records.
Now I have a new task and problem.
Fields (columns) in an Excel sheet are grouped into 3 groups,
each connected with different subject. Each subject must be
merged into a separate Word page. However in some records
all data for a subject can be equal to zero, so from 1 Excel
record I can get 1 or 2 or 3 Word pages depending on the data.
So the question is: how to get 1 or 2 or 3 Word pages from
each Excel record using the MailMerge?
I still use the MS Office 97 but if necessary I can install w newer
version of the programs.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me.

I am using microsoft word 2003. My problem is the paragraph symbol suddenly
appeared on the space I was typing. I had a hard time removing or eliminating
it. It does not appear anymore but now a DOT appears after every word I
typed. How can I get rid of this dot? I also found out that even my files

Can a style have a text constant ?
Can a style include a constant text phrase or special character. For
example, could a style include the prefix "SECTION - " , so that the user
would not have to enter the same text constant before each section heading.

I want to create a simple template which when opened will ask me to fill in a
couple of variables, then place the answer in the document.
I've looked at the "ask" and "ref" fields, but what I need to know is how to
open the document so that the prompts pop up.
This will go onto a Memorandum template. So what I want to happen is that
when I access the document, I'm asked to fill in the blanks (i.e.
"Recipient's name?"), then what I type is plunked into the document in the

Insert Date make Bold Macro
I don't know how to write macros but I do know how to record them and make
icons for them that I put on the toolbar. Or I did back before Word 2007.
The goal is to have an icon always accessable on the toolbar, not in a
contextual menu, where I can select a macro that inserts the date in a
particular format and makes it bold and sets spacing following it. I had
this in Word 2003.
When I try to use the record macro function to do the above operations I am
stuck because while the macro recorder is running, after I have inserted the
date in a selected format, I am not able to highlight the date text and make
it bold. The little recorder icon hovers near the text but I can't select
the text.
What should i do?

Footer problems
Word 2002
New job, new letterhead, office converting from WP.
I got the letterhead figured out OK by using 'different first page'. But we
often have multiple page FAX sheets which presents a different problem..
If it's a one page fax, it needs a header and a footer. The footer is the
(long) caution paragraph. If there is more than one page, then we need a
header on the first page only and the footer only on the 2nd or last page.
I can't get this to work.

Unwanted Toolbar Button
Greetings,
Using Word 2003 in Windows XP
I recently installed the American Heritage Dictionary and find that they've
added a toolbar button to my Word. I right-click on the toolbar and disable
it, but it comes back every time I open Word.
I tried setting Word to automatically update my template, but that doesn't
seem to have done it.
Any ideas how to get my toolbar selection to stick?

Print margins
I am using Word 2003.
I often want to be able to copy some text from a web page and paste it into
Word.
I then select Normal, desired font size, etc.
Then I want to print it with preset margins.
I can not find any way in either Word or my Canon Pixma iP1600 where I can
set the margins permanently.
I can set them and next time they are back at the original very wide values.
Can anyone help?

I installed Office Ultimate 2007 two months ago. Computer freezes any time I

Editing an object
I'm not sure if this is rally a Word 2003/WinXP Home question but here goes.
I downloaded the printout of a powerpoint presentation. It consists of a
set of single page objects (for want of a better term?). Each object is a
page sized box complete with handles. it also contains text.
I'd like to be able to make some edits to the text. But the object, as it
appears on the screen doesn't permit it.
Is there a simple, or even a not-so-simple way to do this? Would any other
programs do the trick? OCR, One-Note?
