Your best bet is to start from scratch; see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm. The error
you're getting is probably a result of a combination of mishaps, one of
which involved selecting columns from the Columns button instead of the
Format | Columns dialog.
