    - Formatting Help please. I am working on a document which I have worked on for the sometime. It has now decided that when I change any formatting, it changes all the formatting in the document, eg. if I put in a bullet point every line in the document gets a bullet point, if I bold a word the whole document changes to bold and all the formatting is removed, if I change the points between each line the right justification changes to left and all bolding is removed. I have tried to find something in formatting which can point me in the right direction but to no avail. Microsoft advised copying the document to create a new document - still had the same problem.     - Closing Word Problem ? Hello: My old W98 PC, dating from around '98 used a '97 version of Word. Never any problems, worked quite well. Now I just bought a new PC, running XP, and the version of Word that came with it is driving me crazy. This version is labeled as Word 2002 (10.4030.2625) I'm just a typical home user; a few letters, and other very simple word processing. Absolutely nothing fancy. Just use the most basic functions; don't need, or desire, the zillions of bells and whistles in it. Never use Templates, etc. Just want to look at, create, or re-open, a document, and of course to re-save it. The following happens most of the time, but not all of the time: When I go to close out something I've looked at, or possibly modified a little, I get: "This File is in use by another application or user." Then Save As comes up. The Default window in this Save As shows Templates I then click the upper X box to close it out. Then it says: "Changes have been made that effect the Global Template, Normal. Do you want to Save these changes ?" (I never use Templates, or modify any of them) I click on NO. Then it usually just repeats all of this, but eventually I do get out of it. What options or configurations must I do to eliminate all of these messages, and just have a "simple" word process again, like before ? It's really driving me batty.     - Table of contents I have created a table of contents that loks very normal. like a heading tab, then page number like below. I know I can create a link from the text "Chapter One" to the place that chapter starts, but with editing and changes often the page number will change ie: I add some text and this pushes Chapter Two to page 27. Is there a way to automatically link the page number to the page that chapter starts on. Currently the only way I can think to do it is to go through the document and change the page numbers in the TOC manually.     - Font errors I have a problem with fonts in word 2003. In a 5 page document I will get font spacing errors like the one in the example below in 6 or 7 places. The E in THE is actually right after the H with no space in between, however it prints (Both on screen and printer) like it is shown in the example.     - Points before and after How do I keep Word 2003 (no problems in previous versions) from randomly switching from "pts" to "line" when I change the increments for Before and After Paragraph Spacing? In my Options-General tab, I am using POINTS. The numbers I am entering are different everytime but they are labeled "pts" at the time I am changing them and then I change the number while "pts" still remains in the dialog box, and all of a sudden the measurement is much bigger by far than I chose.     - forms help - drop down boxes I've created a form and am having trouble getting the drop-down boxes to behave like I want them too. The user of the form should select an item from the drop down box, but I want the result to be a code for the item. So, for example, if the user chooses the item "black," once he/she tabs out of the field, the code "blk" should populate that field. This will be true of most of the drop down boxes in my form. I do not want to use the code itself in the drop down list, because in most cases, the correlation will not be this simple. I've tried a macro to accomplish this, and though the behavior is correct, once the user moves out of the field, the result code (i.e. "blk") is added to the list of available items in the drop down box.     - Can't indent twice! We are struggling with the changeover to Word 2000, made necessary because with our new network software WordPerfect kept crashing. In creating legal documents it is important to keep manual control of numbering and lettering. This is because we are often quoting from the middle of other documents, and we often have to start with (say) subparagraph "r", skip to "t", and go on to sub-subparagraph (iii), etc. I see that to indent after a number or letter, you type the number or letter, hit TAB, then CTRL+T (hanging indent), and type. The text wraps around and you get an evenly indented paragraph after the letter number. For example: 2. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blha blha blha alah alhaal bla ha lh. 3. Blah lahg lha a blh ablh a blh blah blah blh alh l alh lha lha lah . etc. But this doesn't work if you want to indent twice. What I want is: 3. a. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah b. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah After hitting the TAB after "a.", I hit CTRL+T -- but then the "a" gets indented too. Further, only the first line indents twice -- the text then wraps back to the first indent. Hitting CTRL+M is even worse because the "3" gets indented as well. Making a doubly indented paragraph is a routine, everday task, and I assume the solution must be simple too. How do I get it to indent twice without indenting the number and letter too? labels. Is this possible? The worksheet has about 100
names/addresses/cities,states etc. and needs to be printed out. Is there a
converter? I tried using some OCR scanning software but that did not work.
Any suggestion?

There isn't a converter. You do a Mail Merge, using the Excel worksheet as
the data source to pull the addresses into Word to generate the labels. It
will probably take some experimentation and tweaking, start with the first
articles on this page.
