headers: different page number placement for odd and even pages

hello,
How do I accomplish the following: I want my document to have the left pages
(with even page #s pages left aligned) , and the right pages with odd
numbers, with right alignment. Help!! I've tried for hours to do this, with
no luck. Thanks.

G'Day Ellen,

File>Page setup
Layout (tab)
Headers and footers (section)
Different odd and even - CHECK the box.

For a Book, you would probably want
Different first page - CHECK the box
as well.

Please only post once per question.
Do not use Insert > Page Number!

Use headers and footers. You want your document set up to have different
headers/footers on even and odd pages.
