I don't want the "Getting Started" pane to open each time I open a Word Doc.
How do I disbale ?

If clearing the "Show at startup" check box has not worked for you, then you
need the Task Pane Controller from
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/ShowTaskPane.htm
