i closed a document in Word and didn't save it. I know it saves
periodically. Where do I find them.

The new document you were creating was stored
internally in memory as you worked on it. Because
you didn't save your new document as a file when
you closed Word, the document's data in memory
was automatically cleared when you closed Word.
In other words, you lost all of your work and it can't
be recovered. You learned an unfortunate lesson.

Had you opened an existing Word document and
made revisions to it, the document and revisions
would have been stored in memory, too. The
difference is that had you refused to save the
existing file before you closed Word, the document
file would still be there in its original state before you
started working on it...but the revisions that you had
made would have been lost when you closed Word.
